I am getting good FTP speeds to my xbox from all my machines except one. This happens to be the fastest machine and I can download really fast from the xbox but I just can't upload more than 700 KB/sec. I don't think it is my NIC card because when I FTP off my linux box or transfer files between this computer and others on my network, it gets reasonable speeds.
There is a particular setting on this computer I can check that might be causing this? I mean every other computer on my network including my notebook is faster FTPing to my xbox.
I have a 8 port switch and all my NIC cards are 10/100 cards. I have done searches on google and here but to no avail. Any help or utility i could use to pin point my problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not!
It's a network misconfiguration or hardware problem.
Things to check for.
1 - DO NOT put your DSL/CABLE modem on the same subnet (and hub/switch unless you are using a special modem sharing device)
2 - Switch ports on your hub/switch and try again
3 - Watch those gateway settings, people don't seem to understand what they are for!
4 - Make sure your cards are operating at FULL DUPLEX off the switch, it may be reverting to 10baseT and/or Half Duplex
5 - Most LAN cards have a configurable set of parameters. Sometimes the lowest defaults are used

I also have frustrating network problems.
No matter if I use a crossover cable (direct connection) or my 8port switch...
I only get a speed when copying things from xbox to pc of 7kb/s.... the other way round from pc to xbox, the speed is ok...
I have no idea why??? Network settings of pc and xbox should be ok...
Does anyone have an idea?

I am pretty sure the xbox has a 100mb nic. Not that this answers you questions but might clear it up fo a few ppl. I know this cause my router has the 100 lit for the xbox's network connection

Some cards do not like having a too short a cable hooked up.
Normally 7' and longer is required.
I would also check the following:
1 - pull out and reseat the crossover cable
2 - update the LAN drivers to the latest if possible.
3 - move the LAN card to another slot, you could have too much IRQ sharing going on
4 - The PC should not have a gateway set for the LAN card hooked to the Xbox
5 - The Xbox should have it's gateway either "off" or to the PC's IP
6 - Each card has specific parameters you can set in the control panel. You may need to adjust these to read FULL DUPLEX/100BaseT instead of AUTODETECT

Thank you guys for your help!
Problem is solved, now I get a proper speed!
I don't know exactly why, I only tried from another PC with another Windows - system and it worked.
I guess that some Windows - settings of my normal system are wrong or screwed. I'll try to find it out and post it here!
Thanks!

shasha,
that is what is happening to me also. I can FTP from every computer on my network at fast speeds except the one computer that I use the most hehe.
If you can figure any settings that might be causing this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've found the problem!
In Windows (Windows registry) there are some settings called MTU (Maximum Transmission Units), RWIN (maximum data length) and TTL (Time To Live). I used a program called "DFÜ - Optimizer" (Freeware) to optimize this settings for my modem connection but they have bad "consequences" for LANs connections.
With optimized parameters for LAN connections, I got a proper speed for 100MBit - LAN.
suggested optimized LAN - settings from the program are:
MTU: 3000
RWIN: 32767
TTL: 64
I hope, I could help a little bit!?!
