I'm trying to rent some xbox games, but, all the blockbuster stores near my place don't have most of the latest games or some pretty popular games from last year. I just want to ask if anyone is actually using GameFly and how is it. Is it safe to use and how fast the deliveries are. Thanx.

no one want to answer ?

pretty slow to me, but blockbuster sucks worse, so try it.

I've tried Gamefly, GameLender, and GoVojo.com. I'm still a member of Gamefly and Gamelender. Gamefly has the best selection of new games. Gamelender is cheaper but a lot of their games have "1-3 day wait". I like Govojo the best because they had the quickest turnaround time but TOO MANY of their games have a "SHORT WAIT" status. I think service really varies depending on where you are located. I am in San Francisco, so that is probably why Govojo was so quick (they are in Oakland). Gamelender is in San Jose and GameFly is located in Inglewood (Los Angeles I believe). So long story short, I stuck with Gamefly because they have most of the games I want though I am not happy with their turnaround time (3 days to a week). Hope that helps.

I've been pretty happy with Gamefly. They are a little slow, but that is to be expected. If you are serious about renting a and playing a LOT of games then Gamefly is the way to go because you will save a lot of money.
I guess it all depends on how much you intend to play. If you plan on playing 3 games or less a month then stick with Blockbuster. They cost about $6.00 to rent now but they're local and you can have as quick a turnaround as you want. If you plan on playing more than 3 games a month then go with Gamefly because the cost per game will be significantly lower.
It's also nice because if you decide that you WANT to keep a game for longer you don't have to pay any renewal fee to Gamefly as you would with Blockbuster.

thanx guys, Blockbuster has its own "game freedom pass" which is $20 per month no late fees and everything, but the only thing that stops me is that they don't have the latest games ! I don't have my own credit card so I need to convince my parents to use theirs. For all you guys who are still on GameFly and maybe someone who already canceled their accounts, did you guys had any problem about the Credit Card Bills? Because that's the key problem for my parent to put the card on, because they are scared.
Thanx again for giving me the info. Hopefully they'll take deposit that kind of stuff soon
P.S. I'm in LA so I think gamefly should be the fastest turnaround for me

No prob with bills.

Hey I use gamefly and they work great. Like you blockbuster always doesnt have any good games to rent left plus its way too much money to rent one. Gamefly doesnt have tons of wait times..maybe once and awhile on a new game, but usually I can rent a newly realeased game teh same day its realeased. The little window to store all your games you want is the best and most user friendly i think. Im on the east coast so it takes usually 4-5 days to get to me but its still a good turnaround time I think considering the price and the service. Redoctane used used to take anywhere from 5-10 days. Oh ya also gamefly sells its games for really good prices so you could just end up buying a game you rent if you want and they send you the case and manual.
Go with gamefly...

I just got my 1st two games
raw 2 and Soul Caliber2. They shipped on the 17th and I got them around 1:00pm on the 18th. I'm really happy. Thanx guys.

Wow. I've got to move to California. Sometimes it takes forever to get to Rhode Island. Still better than Blockbuster though.

i have unlimited game plan with hollywood video, 2 games at a time. They are not offering plan anymore. Lucky i'm still continuing to use the plan after they stop. Hollywood has more games than blockbuster. Blockbuster only let u have 1 game at a time.
I know they don't have all the games, but if they don't i can always go find other game rental store to get the game what i'm looking for.
Sep 20 2003, 05:25 PM
I say u just buy the games lol you get it there and then also u can try second hand games as they are ok (aslong as they work) renting is cheap but id rather buy.

My Blockbuster used to be like yours (Miami Beach, FL). I talked to the store manager to no avail. Then I called their HQ (there's a toll-free number on their website somewhere; just ask to speak to their shift supervisor - call during business hours and they'll connect you). Got to talk to a very nice lady at corporate who took time out of her schedule, called the store manager and even called me back to apologize. From there on, I got the most courteous service at my store. The store manager still remembers my name and makes it a point to be as friendly as possible. And the selection has improved noticably (as big time).

I rent from a local chain (New Jersey) called WOW. I am able to rent up to 6 games at a time for .99 Sunday-Wednesday. Granted they are only overnight rentals but if rent it first thing in the morning you've a long time to play them. Selection isn't as good as I'd like it to be but for .99 who's complaining!!!

i am in Louisiana so shipping time would be high. Blockbuster has a Freedom pass for renting as many games as u want for $19.99 month. u rent one game then u can take it back and get another game as many times as u want. you can rent 10 games in one day jsut swapping them out.

freedom pass runs out after summer from what I hear. happens every year.
Sep 30 2003, 03:03 PM
I don't think it necessarily runs every year. They did it here for three months during PS2's year of being the only next-gen out, which I didn't get too much use of.
If it is a yearly thing though, i need to get the hell out of here.

How is the condition of the discs when they arrive? I've been using the freedom pass at Blockbuster, but I'm finding that for some reason my xbox hates them, and has difficulty reading them. I don't know if it's the fact that they don't maintain them, because usually they look pretty good. Or else perhaps it's the sticker that they affix to the top. In any case, anyone have issues like this with Gamefly rentals?
Sep 30 2003, 03:39 PM
The condition of the discs when they arrive is usually pretty good. I find that there are usually some light scratches but nothing too bad. Do you have a Thomson drive? If so you may have some trouble reading the discs. My Samsung works great.

Man its all about the "mom n pop" game shops in my area (Burlington NC). We got three local game shops, one is like a libary with old games like Sega CD, NES, Super NES, 3DO , Saturn, PSX and Genny (I go up there and get 3DO ,Saturn, or Sega CD for $1/title/night, great selction too.) Plus theres the new stuff too. The other store is mostly up to date and they have bi-weekly Halo turneys (The owner gives $50 in credit for the store if you win
The other game store is sometimes up to date but nobody really rents there and stuff.

For me it's Gamefly vs Blockbuster. I would say Gamefly would be the best choice. It takes about 2-3 days for my titles to arrive. With blockbuster, your not gauranteed the game and most of the time, it takes about a week for them to get the new games. Gamefly is pretty quick if you are in the west coast. Someone mentioned that their game arrived the next day. I say that's impossible given the fact gamefly doesn't use express and overnight shipping. Although they talked up bumping games up to 3 rentals at a time and charging extra fees for over night delivery. They are still in the process of it and hopefully they can find a form of shipping that'll do overnight.
Gamefly is the way to go.
Oct 1 2003, 02:39 AM
well, all the games i rent are all new games that just came out this month or last month, so the condition of the disc is no problem, and for blockbuster, they still have the freedom pass now, but I've checked 3 stores and most of them have the same games and there are no more than 30 titles... so for me, 2~3 days a game from GameFly vs 30 title from Block Buster. I'm going w/ GameFly
Oct 1 2003, 12:26 PM
well I dont care for either on to be honest, however if I had to choose i would go with Blockbuster.
I have a local store small one that gets all the games before blockbuster and is .99 per day for new games. max of 3 days
they always have at least 10 of a new game, and 5 of a new game that is not in demand
Oct 1 2003, 06:50 PM
I did the blockbuster game pass for 2 months and was real happy with it. I used 2 different blockbusters. I jsut can't believe that neither of them carried MotoGp2. I had to go through gamefly to get that.

Personally Iíve boycotted Blockbuster ever since they turned me into a collection agency for late fines totaling around $6. That was about 10+ years ago and they can still lick my balls! I will drive out of my way to go to the few locally owned places left in my area that havenít fallen to the Blockbuster/Hollywood Video Reich. Thereís a kick ass place not to far from where a live (Seattle) that has almost every game on every platform including PC. Also we have a video rental store with the largest selection on the West coast, which also happens to be locally owned www.scarecrow.com Iíve yet to find anything there they donít have. Any old people like me remember Star Blazers? http://www.scarecrow.com/search/search_ren...ch=star+blazers
Iím not a Star Trek fan, but I just did a search out of curiosity and they pulled up 505 titles. http://www.scarecrow.com/search/search_ren...earch=star+trek
Iíll shut up now....
