DIY....not the same as system-mods although i probably did use the same bc
and for everyone out there wanting to do a DIY job like this with this type of paint i wouldn't recommend it unless you know what your doing. color changing paint is very expensive, around ~250 a pint, and thats only for the base coat.... not to mention unless you have a good gun and know what your doing your going to have a hard time not getting any orange peel in the finished product.
what kind of paint did you use to do this?

Nice! How did you do the fins?
sypha
Jan 12 2005, 07:53 AM
Sorry the pics arent the best, i took them with my camera phone.
The fins took forever. I used pin stripe to tape each little groove off then sprayed. Just the taping for that took me around two and a half hours. I think it took that long b/c it seemed like it was never ending. I would finish about 10 sections and have to take a break.

Thanks! I am glad you like it. I just tried to do something alittle different then what I see on here all the time. not many people paint the fins like i did, and i thought the red line around the X was a change also. Lights look good when used wisely. I think some people just get alittle crazy with them at times.

Ye its a third party case - it doesnt have the bits to attatch the shielding to.
It looks really good though, just get a jewel on it and some lights under the hood and it will be done

It is 3rd party, I got the Black Jewel on the way w/ a black X3 pro switch, and probably going to do some green neon to light it up since green LEDs aren't THAT green. I used to modify cell phones and i know the green LED's won't look as good as neon but thanks for the compliments

what kind of paint did you use to do this?
I used Sikkens sealer and then wet on wet that with some black base, then I used Dupont ChromaPremiere red to blue and two coats of Sikkens clear.
be sure you use hardner in the Dupont bc if you dont it will haze up after a few days

thnx for the compliments and all.
a thing about putting leds in a controller and whatnot, what would be a good combination of colors for a green translucent controller? putting clear or green leds would be kool and all, but what else would look good? just for something different

try amber or something in the green controllewr, i dunno. order 4 of every led and try them all. then re use the others

I did this awhile ago but I dont think I ever posted a pic. The paint on the controller is off because I didnt like how it looked a few months ago and tried to remove it, started on the handle and decided to just leave it. Also, the color looks wierd only because of the flash from the camera.

So...
i just "finished" the basics of my m0d. as you can see, on the shell, i havent recieved my jewel in the mail yet or cut it out and added the LEDs behind it. i also messed up a little on some other parts as well. no plexi glass in yet. no gloss added yet. but hopefully it will all come together. here it is...

also, the cd drive was painted. looks like...

(my cell phone got in the way, sorry)
let me know what you think?
