This is my first mod. Excuse the horrible pic quality. Let me know what you think.

My first xbox mod

The details of what everything is and how I did it is written in the description under each pic.

Here is my first mod. I have a Xenium chip in there, too. Not the best, I think I will pick up some LEDs later.

I know the window and jewel are pretty common mods, but it only took a few hours worth of work and this is a first attempt. Rest assured, I'll be modding a few more boxes and I definately want to figure out something unique to do.

I finally got around to giving my replacement case a formal paintjob. I used Duplicolor "Auto Spray"... Electron Blue on Gunmetal. Any import fans out there might know those colors right away, if you don't ehh, no matter wink.gif .

One cool thing that happened that has me thinking... I dropped the front panel that goes around the buttons with wet paint on it, face first, onto the dirt/woodchips. LOOK at the picture (that thing to the right is some dust, not in the paint)... I DID NOT sand it, I picked it up really quickly and came in to my sink and ran HOT water over it... everything came off and the paint went from kinda spotty in places to what you see in the pictures! Believe me I was like WTF blink.gif ! After that happened I painted the top X and decided to experiment... I ran it under the HOT water in the sink about 1-2 minutes after painting and the paint got alot more even or something? I dont know if it was the plastic or the paint or just some kinda freak accident, but I believe that it helped my paintjob astoundingly!

Anyway, what do you guys think? cool.gif

What glue have you used to glue the jewel to the case again?

Sorry, havn't attached it yet... still working out whether or not to widen the hole or not or paint the back of the jewel or what...

thanks for the compliments people btw

It's not an xbox case... but its a controller case (to match my box on the previous page/above):

AnyOne Have A Tut To Making A DVD Window?

G02. DVD Window Mod Tutorial.
- http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=163617&hl= (thanks Emc1683)
- http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=175115 (thanks Muntzster)
- Tips: If you plan on painting your Xbox and do a DVD window mod, cut out the window BEFORE painting. That way, you won't ruin a nice coat of paint by cutting into the case.
- Because there are 3 different DVD-ROMS (possibly more, as newer versions of old models appear), don't be afraid to pause and ask for help in your project if there is something you are unsure of.

G03. In-Depth instructions on how to cut the metal DVD-ROM lid

First paintjob. Candy Apple Red + Gunmetal trim = Guncandy? laugh.gif

Had a bad incident with plastic drop "cloths" during painting, so the X is shot to shit if you concentrate on it. But from this angle, it looks quite alright. Hehe.

Note to self: next time you try painting, use paper to cover your work area. Screw plastic.

Here is my xbox, it'sthe first time I have painted a case, I think it looks really good what do u think? The blue isn't actually that glittery in real life it's just the flash of the camera. And yes I know that is an emachines in the corner unsure.gif . My box pails(sp) in comparison to someof the other mods I've seen here, but I am learning and hatsa off 2 everyone who has helped me along the way. It is a version 1.0 Has a samsung 616T installed and 1/2 the tsop is flashed and a swich is installed in the rear. Here are the pics!!

ive never painted before and was terrified when doing this. i think it turned out pretty damn well though for my first ever attempt at a paint mod. its a little hard to see, but i chose a silver chrome paint and the normal xbox black. oh yeah, in the bottom right corner, you can see my little usb plug i added. (i know its not much, but im a new modder and am really impressed with what ive been able to do)

oh, btw, the jewel isnt done yet, i just placed it back on there. im not really into distracting led's so im just gonna paint the back of it black.

No, the DVD window is not uneven, it the angle the picture was taken at. And the eject button is normally blue, but without the video beng connected, it blinks blue and white... just happen to catch it while it was white.

Here's a close up of the controller port (2 blues, 1 white):

That's about all I've got to show off right now... so here's a picture of a squirrel eating a Cheeto:
user posted image

The other mods I've done will be removed after I recieve my new case bottom... they will have to go back to the drawing board untill I get time to tinker with them since no one really wanted to help me out on them.

Once I get a little more time when I can use my dremel (I work 2nd shift so I'm up all night in the barracks while most other people are trying to sleep) I'll be adding an LED cluster for hd, dvd, and lan activity. It will be painted shortly, I'm thinking white with "nintendo" grey for the 'X"... might just keep it solid white. Beofre I paint it, I will remove the "XBOX" from the DVD drive and sand down the dolby/DVD crap on the right. The power/eject buttons will be replaced with clear ones once they get made (in progress). The Xecutor dipswitch board will be replaced with 4 small rockers in the lefthand corner, and a larger (possibly lighted) rocker for turning the chip on and off.

Anyways, that's the plan so far... if I get the time to do everything, now that's another story.

I'll probally be adding a few more pics in a few days, my jewel will be here and maybe I'll get around to cutting some plexiglass for the DVD window...

i need to take better pics and repost, but i wanted to go ahead and get something for everyone to see. the 3rd pic is with the xbox turned off, just showing that i tented all of the windows so they are black when the xbox is turned off.

and yes, this was the first time i ever used a dremel and it does show. i'm sure if i could redo it now, it would have turned out much better, but as is.. . i am 100% happy with it smile.gif

thanks yarok - the secret is to use a unibit - the kind that are christmas tree shaped and have ridges of different size bores and a wedge missing all the way down inside which is written the diameters - because they dont skip around and in plastic are the only way to get perfectly round holes.

sniepre: Nice job on that halo LE. Did you spray it on the outside or inside?

Outside - just used painter's tape over the X part and where i didn't want it black (took me about 3 hours taping it right - 3 minutes to paint it each coat - have to do the detail work with the tape and make sure its just perfect. The blue stuff from scotch worked great for me.

Another shot of muh baby (lol) better lighting and angle this time:
