After reading the thread about which is the best dashboard, i decided to install MxM cause everyone said how PIMPed it ws, and how screenshots didn't do it justice,
"You have toi see it to believe it" kinda thing,
and i was totally dissapointed, it was hard to navigate the menu's, i prefer the simple evoX menu much better, seems like to much space was taken up with informational panels and there was no room for the menu.
I tried a bucnh of different skins, and really didn't think they were much cooler than the Halo evoX skin. My plan now is xbmp as default dash with a cool skin, sicnce xbmp is nice and clean, lots of room for menu's, and isn;t buggy like evoX when it comes to launching apps.
I know alot of work went into this, so i'm not bashing the app at all. More just wondering what all the hype was about???

i totally agree, i installed mxm for the same reason...when i installed mxm i found the skins weren't sharp at all and were poor quality...maybe it's cause i didn't install the good ones (can anyone recommend any good ones
)...but i did install a couple and found they weren't too impressive. I found evox to load quicker and navigate much better. But like scooby_dooby said i'm not hating on mxm, it's just an opinion

It is personal choice and a lot of the skins are too busy for my liking. Before giving up take a look at d:Void and Generator skins, nice and simple and pretty.

Many good skins out there for MXM, the fact that you dont like it is up to you, i personaly hate Ava as a dash for now anyways but its still installed among all the other dashes.
If you like simplicity (menu only) you will go for Evox
If you like the original dash well you might try the hacked ms dash
If you like a dash with a good visual aspect, good ftp, skinable as hell
, with a author that works with the user you will go with MXM
If you like gadgets (not bitching here) you will go with Ava
Bottom line you choose the dash that suites you best, i like to skin my dash (not just a background image as Evox) but being able to adjust font size and position, add video to my creation and sound, i just think MXM rocks, for me anyways

Well, why dont you try skinning one for yourself. It cant be done in just one sitting such as evox. Like all things practice makes perfect.

mxm launcher is a cool skin. But seriously, MXM takes like an extra 5 seonds longer to start up then evox and the next release is going to have almost the exact same features that evox has plus alot more. The only thing that will be missing thats major is flashing. Which I personally dont think is something that should be handled by the dash due to a possible background issue screwing up a flash. And seriously, the menu's were hard to navigate?! wtf were you on man, it involves pressing up(to go up), down(to go down), a(to select) and b(to go back). Infact, that seems an awfull lot like evox's controls!

definately the wrong forum to post in for this statement m8

You cant compare Evox with mxm, they are completely different dashs.
Evox works...and thats about it, you can load your games etc, but thats about it.
mxm has a world of options, and i do agree with you when you say there are a lot of crappy skins...there are, LOTS of crappy skins

but there are also some gems.

I have been using MXM for about a month now. While I love it and love the features that are here and not in other dashes (such as the preview videos, damn I love those), I'm not sure what you mean by

what type of options are you thinking about? I'm not knocking MXM, nor am I bashing you, I'm just thinking if we can be as specific about the "options" as we can be, it might help scooby_dooby as well as others, figure out all the hidden goodies.
My favorite things about mxm in a nutshell are:
Having an ftp server that supports passive mode (sweet fxp!) as soon as the xbox is turned on.
the preview videos for the games and how they are auto detected (unless you don't want to name them mxm_ss.wmv).
I love that it is xml based as this is (for me) so much easier to understand (I work with xml at work every day heh).
Anyway, I was just hoping people could help scooby_dooby by being more specific about the things they like instead of just saying "it's mad sick" or "it kicks ass"........

The first thing I do when I get home is turn on my xbox and listen to music while I hang out around the house. MXM serves as my jukebox, to sorta speak. All I do is hit the power button and BAMM!! Music plays....no need to launch anything.
...so I guess you could say that I spend a lot of time on the dash.

Don't feed into his bait guys... Look, he hasnt replied back yet. Trust me, after BJ releases the next bug fix with all these action scripts hes included in the WIP, a lot more people are going to installing MXM as a primary dash over Evox as a pure MXM installer is now possible. I'm just hoping that whomever takes on the project of creating the next "Slayer's" install disk comes up with a really catchy name that isnt lame and will actually have meaning as in "MXM Multi-Dash Installer"

what bait? i'll reply right now...just didn't have much to say,
as far as the menu's being hard to navigate, what i meant was that normally you can only see like 2 or 3 menu items at a time, which i hate, evoX you can see like 6 at any given time. i also gave my menu's descriptions which wrapped in a really ugly way, and looked like crap.
and really, i just expected so much cooler skins! i though i would boot it up and be like "WOW", i expected moving backgrounds and super cool effects, but was totally let down.
i think it was just a case of something being so hyped up, that it inevitably couldn't live up to my expectations,
i just posted this for people considering which dashboard is the best, not to buy into all this "super-pimp" hype, i'm sure MxM has much more power and options than evoX but in the looks category it really isn't all that.
And I did try about 10 different skins, went throiugh everything on allboxskins. they were cool, but nothing TOO special, IMO.

The number of items you can see can be changed via the skin.
And the descriptions you added, well thats your own fault for making them too long.
I'm sorry you didnt like MXM and its videos. I for one love the fact that it has a moving screen saver since I do leave my dash on my big screen and dont want burn in. If you didnt like the preview videos and the moving backgrounds, then go right ahead and go back to evox. We're not forcing you to switch. Just showing you the light as having one still background image and text menu items isnt what everyone wants.

have you tried adding videos or news feeds yet? I will agree with you, out of the box MXM may not look like much but just like anything you have to modify it to your likeing.
I guess you can kinda say, MXM is like modding your xbox. You got the chip and installed it. But now you have to modify the bios to do what you want it to do. Same with MXM.
I would suggest keeping MXM as an app and play around with it. Add videos to it along with newsfeeds. You never know, you just might end up making the switch because you have it set up just how 'YOU' like it.
Give it a chance and tweak it to 'YOUR' likeing.
Note: I have you and your in quotes because MXM is able to adapt to your taste and likes. You just need to tweak it, or built a new skin from scratch.

all the options are in MXM for you to be able to create the desired look for your taste.

I agree with what X30n says.
I love MXM cuz I've put the time into making it look like I want it to look. I've edited almost all the skins to look how I want them to and made the videos myslef so that my dash is different then everyone elses.
I like MXM not only because it looks cool once you understand it and know how to get to look how you want but also because it's fun to work on. Evox is boring.
...you do gotta give props to Evox though....after all, they started this whole dash thing. They layed the foundation down so others like Team Ava and BJ (MXM) could expand on.

Scooby_dooby,
If you try skins like mxmbliss, and steel1.0, or even Waterworld 3.0, they all have moving backgrounds.
As far as being able to see menu items, use mxmbliss, it shows about 8 or 9 (I know I am wrong on exact number, but it's something like that).....those are pretty nice skins...One of my favorites currently is the T2 skin, very nice animations going on there, looks professionally done if you ask me. There is another skin called something like extreme voltage that looks awesome, its' only downfall (as far as I am concerned) is the fact that you can only see two or three menu items at a time (I also like to see multiple menu items).
I remember the first time I loaded mxm, boy what a let down! After I downloaded some skins (good skins) and added some preview movies for my games, I was like "Holy shit! This thing kicks some serious arse!"
PS: the steel1.0 skin isn't perfect (the preview video playback is too big for the alloted space), but you should check it out at least as it is like being in a video game haha.
Whatever dash YOU choose, I hope it gives you what you want from a dash. I myself run mxm as my main dash, but still run nexgen and evox as apps.

Good going.. Soon you will see yourself using MXM more and will make it your default dash.
Plus the support for this dash grows more and more everyday. Then you have BJ, someone who does everything he can to support MXM and listens to the users.

I'm glad that you're still giving it a shot... It took me almost 2 weeks to get fully comfortable with the ins and outs of MXM to do make it my primary dash. I played with the settings, videos, skins, menus, tested the FTP reliability and posted all my questions here on the forum before I made the full switch.

I'm gonna work on and installer disc skeleton type thing. All the file work will be done so all you'd have to do is add the files, media or whatever else you want to be installable. If I wasn't on dialup I would consider making and actual Xiso like Slayers but that would take me forever to put out.
With all the new ActionScripts the MXM type of installers will possibly or just may be more powerful then the old evox ones. For instance, you could have an exploit installer/remover/restorer.

Its all about choice was all it took for me. Have never even considered goig back to EvoX. I just keep it as a flashing app. I now use Simplicity exclusively, since it is so simple and eye candy.
I agree, MXM takes longer to load up, and the loading screen is monotonous (I think B.J. is going to give us an option to change this, soon).
But that is the only downfall I can think of.
I never get the lockups I did with Evox, and peeps are way more impressed.
It is not a nnoob's dash, though. At least not yet.
