ok guys, ive been on countless irc chat room, read countless of tutorials, but I have never heard of any problem like that.If you people can get my HD to work i would put money on the line IM SERIOUS.
ok heres what i have:
Xbox v1.2, chameleon chip,xecuter2 4977 bios, new Hd is Maxtor 80gig 7200 rpm 2mb cache set in master mode.
What i already tried:
Evox new HDD v1.2 = Didnt work
Evox new HDD v1.4 = Didnt work
Slayers auto-installer v2.1 = Didnt work
The problem:
After i have prepared my Hd with these programs, I FTP to it, and noticed the size of the Drives C: E: F: X: Y: are all 0 mb but the Z: is 78 gig. so i cant Upload my old C: and E: drives to it!
I tried Zeroing my drive with XHDDPREPARER but after that, the same problem occurs when i put a new HD installer in my Xbox.
Im desperate and pissed off....anyone?

Try makeing a new partition with FDisk and set it to active. Then run hdd preparer. That should do it. Use a 98 boot disk and fdisk.

k heres what i just tried, i zeroed my drive again then i tried slayer.First i noticed that it was going a step further that what i ever were, and this is that i could seen FREE SPACE on C: (350 mb) E: (3 gig) and F: (about 72 gig). Now i said to myself fine verything works, so i rebooted without my cd in, and I GET THE SAME DAMN ERROR!!!!!!! its an error 13 which means it couldn't load the dashboard. so i put the EVOX new HDD installer in to Connect to it, and ive seen that all my C: have been erased and the drive is now empty!
But all the apps installed on F: were still there.
Someone plz do something!!!

Do it manually maybe?
http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/hdd-ftp.phphas the way to do it with your FTP client.
Seriously try that method, its very easy, then while evox is still running copy the old file to C and E, then reboot the machine.
Easy as that

didnt work, i already tried, i said it. when i want to copy files to my C: it says permission denied, because i have no space left.Like i said in a previous reply, this morning i was able to get slayers to partition my drives perfectly, but then when i rebooted, it told me i had a error 13....i also tried to format my Drive using RAW commands in flshFXP with no luck...

boot up with a win98 boot disk use fdisk and just delete all partitions.
create one new one, but don't format it.
then boot up in win2k or winxp with that drive hooked up as a slave
run hdd preparer on that drive, just the first **** bytes. i don't remember what it is, but not the full disk
change the jumper back to master and put it the xbox
then run the installer again.
should work.

ok heres an update folks.
I am now able to install everything perfectly well using the partition method with win98.But another problem occurs when i am done.
I get the cd out of my xbox, then click on the power on/off button. When i reboot it after(using the power on/off) it says error 13 again. So i boot with the evox CD and go into settings to see what went wrong. Then i notice that my C: drive is empty!!!! all my other drives are fully functional but the C: is at 0mb of free space.
Anyone have an idea on this?

Hey bud,
Can you list the steps you took when deleting the partition all the way to installing evox.

yeah no prob.
By the way, thanks bucd, you`re the only one who found how to corect this.
ok, i take my HD set it to master. enter fdisk and then it says to me there are no ``valid windows partition`` so i cant delete it. i just do Create a new PRIMARY DOS partition. Then it checks the integrity of my drive, ask me how much space i want and i say i want the whole space available on it. after its finished, i set the jumper of my XBOX HD to slave, put back my PC HD to master, then boot.
I go to the XHDPREPA and select zero the 1st 4096 sector of each partition.I take the HD out of my computer, set it to master(also tried Cable Select) then i install EVOX ( tried slayers too) it copies everything in perfect order, because i FTP to it and seen that the C: drive and E: drive was identical to the one i had before.
The the shit happens.
After its finished, i get the cd out(while still be in the evox menu) close the cd tray, then push the on/off button to do a cold boot. I start my xbox again with the same button, but then i have an error 13 showing up. i put the EVOX cd so i can FTP to it, and i notice that the C: drive is now empty!
I tried to put things on it but since there is 0mb of free space, it wont let me do it.
Thats about where i am right now...im really tired of all that so any help would be apreciated.
Thanks a lot

if your using hdprepare, you don't need to let windows format or partition the drive - that's what hdprepare is doing - I've never had any luck with the "first 4096" option in hdprepare on used drives ( new, untouched drives do usually work) - do the whole darn thing, if it's a big drive, it might take ten hours, but it *will* work...
Also, after you've run hdprepare, put the drive in your xbox, the use the ftp commands to format *all* the drives - if it's not formatted , the xbox can't use it. ( this should only take 2 or three seconds per drive) - then copy your system files over...

if you would have read the whole post, you would have noticed that 1st ive already tried formating my drive using raw command, and 2nd i just told that it was working using 1st 4096 sector
my prob aint there anymore.

I would recommend making an EvoX boot disc using the config that fastbuickgn posted (edit the IP settings to something you can use). I would also recommend using or creating a skin.ini that shows the space of C, E, and F on the dashboard (makes it so much easier to see what's happening in real time). Boot the CD and use it to format the drive. Once the format is done, FTP into your Xbox and try manually transferring the files over.
I use this method on every single installation, and I've never had a problem.

Hey Lonecrow,
When you did fdisk and you said there was no valid windows partition so you couldn't delete it. They you created a new partition, did you see how much space it created when you did that?
What could happen is that you created a new partition but the old "non windows" partition is still there. So if you notice that the new partition you created was less then the actual amount of the drive, then what you need to do is delete the "non windows" partition with fdisk using the option of deleting a non dos partition. I believe that's the option. I don't remember exactly. But in fdisk there's an option to delete a partition even if it's not FAT32 or NTFS.
If this is the case, then delete it and do the steps over again.
let me know if this helps.

After all the partitions of the hard drive had been deleted, and you created one new one (all the space is there)
Then do the same thing as before, putting it as a slave drive and booting up in windows and running the hd utility, just the first 4096........etc.
After all that, then try the slayer install with the fresh drive and follow the instructions that comes with it.
If this doesn't work, i really don't know what it can be. If the drive is empty and prepared witht he utility and you run the slayer installer. You should get it to work.
If not...i don't know what it is.

ok, now im zeroing my HD again( full zeroing) i will try EVOX with my freshly make backup of C: and E: that i just made a few minutes ago. if it doesnt work, ill throw this piece of trash of HD outta my way!
But ive thought about it, can it be my BIOS or my chip or even my Xbox that cant accept this thing?
I have a chameleon chip, using Xecuter2 4977 or Evox 2.6 bios and a V1.2 xbox?

I had something similar like this happen to an xbox at my place.
seems it had a bad chip install and while it would boot slayers / evox cds / custom slayers cds it wouldnt partition drives correctly.
It would boot from the DVD, but never from the HDD (usually error 13 or 16)
slayers would format the drive (chose rebuild large) but failed to copy (it said it copied files over, but it was way too quick) so just like you, when you checked after, all drives were empty and reported 0bytes.
Turns out (I think) the IDE controller on this 1.0 is fried, as now it doesnt even like to read / write from the IDE channel at all. It aparently detects the drives ok (no timeout errors) just wont boot / write to them.

partition the hdd for use in your computer and try if it holds any data there. this would make clear if the drive is faulty or not
Lonecrow
Sep 20 2003, 08:55 PM
ok, you mean to format it so i would just use it like a normal pc hd and see if it can hold data on it?
