I've modded and fitted a SD616T DVD drive in my xbox and it seems to be ok apart from a couple of problems. when I boot to evox, the DVD is empty and idle, evox reads it as "Unknown", I can eject OK, and when I put a game disc in, it still reads as "Unknown".

Using Flash FXP I cant see anything in the "D" drive, but I could before the mod. I would usually put this down to my mod being wrong, but if I reboot with a game disc in, the games loads fine?

Any help would be appreciated.

im just guessing but is your disc ready wire soldered on ok?

Yeah, I've metered it and it's OK

strange, i did the same mod and it works just like a genuine xbox drive!
just have another check that all the yellow wires are goin to the right points on your dvd drive, hopefully its just a silly little thing like that you've missed!

I've had the same problem in my 616FEB drive. Nothing could help. Oh, you can use XBMP as a dashboard. The drive recognises discs well under XBMP. That's strange - I know, but mine did. One more thing; Samsung SD-616F or T drive reads CD under 40x speed.

You have to switch the tray in and tray out wires. I bet you've noticed other weird behavior with it also because of that.

Actually, you may be right. I did experience weird behavior but this solved it.

so.... is that drive i posted up a few spots the same one i wanna get
all it says is sd-616 it doesn't say 616t..... take a look i'm not sure whther or not i shoul dbuy it. Where did you guys get yours from?

hey i am trying to do this mod, but i cant find the correct firware ANYWHERE! if someone could just give me a hint... or a pm... my xbox drive is totally dead! i cant even play an original brand new game. and i lovemy box.... i spent hours modding it and caring for it whenall the sudden one day the drive wont read. i have a samsung drve, but i cant find the corrrect firmWare anywhere

look in the PC/drive firmware folder on #xbins ftp EFNET (IRC)

thats only for samsung 605 is it the same as 616?

the 616 is virtually the same hardware as the 605b, the whole point is to flash the 616 with the 605b firmware so the xbox is none the wiser, thinking that there really is a 605b hooked up.

Thanks for all the help guys, but the drive is still "faulty". I have done EVERYTHING per the tutorials, correct bios and all! Oh well, looks as if Ill have to buy a new drive and start again! LOL

Anyone want to trade an Original sd605 (the ones that come with the xbox so you don't have to tamper with your xbox to install a sd616)?
