12v fan mod or fan upgrade

jC!
Use XBTool to modify your BIOS and adjust your fan settings that way (no need to even open up your box)

But do you really think its going to be a problem having a 7200 rpm maxtor?? You think i can live without any extra fans and ventilation etc?
Dreamcazman
You could always put your Xbox in a sealed air tight container and stick it in the freezer tongue.gif

Hehe, on a serious note - Install the drive and play a few games off it. After a while, feel the top of the drive to see how hot it gets. If it gets really hot with the cover off, it will get even hotter with the case on.

If it's not too bad to touch, try it for a while and if you start to experience games crashing and other lockups it's a fair bet that the drive is going into meltdown cool.gif

Install the new Evox dash too, it'll display the temp of the drive.

If all else fails, piss it off and get a Western Digital biggrin.gif

These are all great peices of advice but should I return the maxtor and buy a seagate?? does anyone know what the difference between the heat is on either hd ? Is the difference big?

put some sun glasses on it then it will be cool cool.gif

Drive size/brand shouldn't matter too much... maxtors have been used before with success.

if you are SUPER paranoid.. do what Dreamcazman, run it with the case off. It it gets hot, do the 12v fan mod. Run it with the case on for a while and monitor the temperature.

you aren't the only one with a large HDD.. and besides, the Xbox will turn itself off if it gets tooo hot.

Seagates get very hot. I wouldn't advise you to get one of them. IBM's also get very hot.
