well as some of you may or may not already know, samba 3.0 was released on the 24th of this month.
I wonder if xbmp will incorporate this and if it will solve a lot of errors.
i'm not exactly sure what's improved over the older version, but it has to be better.

Hehe, not exactly sure... smile.gif

How about Active Directory support and LDAP/Kerberos user authentication. If this really works, then you will be able to use your Xbox as a domain controller for your LAN. Very sweet.

Oh dear... talk about bloat - I really hope they don't incorporate useless server stuff like this into xbmp - it's a media player/client, not a server. Apparently they are going to rewrite the samba stuff in xbmp, so hopefully it will be more reliable and work much easier (without requiring huge modifications to smb.conf).

Adding a Samba server to EvoX would make a lot more sense. Imagine how unbelievably easy it would be to modify your config files and move apps to the Xbox if it were accessible from a drive letter.

Adding the Samba 3.0 CLIENT to XBMP would be nice. I really don't like how XBMP currently requires you to have a linux file server specially configured (security = share) in order for XBMP to see it - it causes the server to perform slower. Hopefully this would change if XBMP upgrades.
