Hmmm I thought I'd try to play Golden Axe 2 the other day, having played the original to death in the arcade in my yoof. Got the rom all right, but I can't seem to load it up in either MameOx or MAME-X. Does any xbox emu play this one? And before anyone asks, I'm NOT looking to play the genesis version. Thought that one really sucked, like most arcade ports at the time.

I happened to play about a level or two of this game last weekend with my brother, so yeah, it works. Seems to mostly run fine, a few graphics glitches occured during the campfire scenes between levels where u just smack those little fellas for magic and health potions...otherwise seemed to be fine. Check your rom.

Man, I have tried about 4 different Roms of this game and I can't get it to work ethier. The closest that I got was one that said it had known issues and I couldn't pick up potions. Any suggestions? Are there any tricks like having two sets of roms and merging or something?

I have issues with King of Fighters 95 and Fatal Fury Special (using Kawax)...fatfursp is missing a file, and KOF has glitched graphics. I've redownloaded both of these numerous times from several different sources, and all the same result. So I'm in what appears to be the same boat with these as you are with Golden Axe 2.

I'll get back to you to confirm that golden axe 2 does work, but I guess you're gonna have to just keep hunting.

I just tried playing Golden Axe 2 again in the latest Mame-ox. Works fine for me. There are video problems after you beat the first boss. All of sudden you are standing in the sky it looks like. You can still pick up the potions though even when the video goes wacky. Also seems like the shadows are off. Other than that it seems very playable, not the greatest game though. I prefer the original Golden Axe. Probably you have bad roms, try using a rom manager then try unzipping them all and see if you can build a good rom.

Yes Golden Axe 2 works well with the last version of MAMEoX. Ninja Baseball Batman, Shinobi & Gaia Crusaders (Sound disabled only for this game) work fine too.

Sorry, I ended up getting drunk and forgot to test it for you, but it appears that others have also confimed it working, so I won't bother. However, I'm using MameOX 0.72 (or whatever it is), not the latest, so it works on this version also.

That's a good idea! I am going to use clrom to rebuild it but I need a dat file for Mameox. Does anyone know where I can get the .dat file for Mameox to use on clrom?

Will these programs acutally "repair" roms....or do you need another zip file with the correct rom part for it to extract, so it's basically just combining the good bits of each zip into one complete zip....

So if I have a zip with different crc checks, it's not going to correct this unless I have a zip with the right crc checks correct? And it's certainly not going to build a missing file, is it?

Can asomeone give me the filenames contained in ga2.zip(Goolden Axe 2)? I have the mame .dat file and it doesn't have a showing for Golden Axe 2. So, if someone gives me a list of the filenames and thier correct spellings I can go and search them out and put them together.

golden axe 2 on Genesis works for me... haven't tested mame

To the person above me... GA2 Genesis is a totally different game... Not sure if you were being sarcastic...

Anyways, I searched this becaus eI am having issues running this ROM. It works fine on my PC MAME, but not my Mame-OX or mame-x... The Rom I have was originally fro when Modeler (system 32 emu) came out, just tried it on mame one day and it worked...

I actually love Golden axe 2, I have the full 4 player arcade cabinet in my garage, I bought it for $225 a few months ago. I am a huge GA fan and I would love to get it working on my xbox.

Maybe I will try another romset or maybe I have an old version of MAME...

It's a shame Mame does not get an update because this game does not have the same glitches on the PC version of the emu.

This is by far one of the best game EVER as far as beat em ups are concerned.

I have tried 2 different roms and 3 versions of Mame for Xbox... Anyone know of the winning combo to get the Sega System 32 arcade roms to work?

But Better late than never, no? Someone out there might still want the backpack....

Anyways,back to topic for the ones still interested talking about GA2... I have GA2 running on my Xbox, I beated it, the rom works well with some graphic glitches. I have set it up for 4 players, but If I remember well, the graphic glitches are less if you set up your game for only 2 players.

As for the sega system roms on mame, I have tried a couple of them without success, I think they can't run there, not enough CPU power I think, but I might be wrong.

so what version of mame?

I am not sure if I have the most current stuff... I got my emus from the 'usual place' (not sure what the TOS is like here...)

So I have had no luck on Mamedox, Bender MameOX, or Mame-X. For what it's worth, I really am not sure how to check how new my version of mame is but I think they're pretty new.

I use Mameox 128 plus.

I think you can check your mame version somewhere in the menu.

So this version of Mame128 Plus seems to not be displaying the menus... My screen is all black with grey edges and the words "menu, play ROM, help, fast jump"

My controller doesn't make anything happen either- any advice?

I do not know, try deleting your old savegame for mame and do a fresh install.

All the ports suffer from the same bugs. Again this is better on Mame for PC for some reason. If someone would update the XBOX code to that PC Mame code, all should be well, until then, the middle levels that are based upon the Mode 7 "like" effect still fuck up and ruin the experience of the gameplay big time.

I guess I am really glad I own the real arcade machine if that's the case... might be a good day today to play it.

No you are not, it's a shame the scene is dying, else perhaps MAME would get an update and at least one console machine out there would be able to play this. :/
