I was currently thinking of a way to get my modded xbox working on xbox live. I was just wondering what MS does to find out you have a modded xbox when the mod chip is turned off. I have read that MS does HD scanning, to look for files not part of the xbox.

I was planning on loading the original HD image of my XBOX to a 8-10 gig laptop hard drive and mounting the HD somewhere in the xbox.

Basically I will be doing the following -

- Restoring the original image to a laptop harddrive - around 10gigs
- Creating a switch to swap from the laptop harddrive from the 80gig desktop drive i currently have installed.

Hoping for the following results

- Being able to play on XBOX live with mod chip turned off and using the laptop HD to mimic the original xbox hd.
- not being banned from XBOX Live when ESPN NBA 2K4 comes out.

Possible?

not ur hd man.. they look at your eeprom and NO it does NOT come from the HD.. so as long as ur "hacked" bios loads and u go on live ur screwed both ways

.... Well i was planning to have the MODCHIP off when going on live at the same time using the Original IMAGE that would be on the laptop hard drive to use.

so it would be like -

(TO PLAY ON LIVE)

MODCHIP OFF - HD SWITCH pointing to - Secondary Hard Drive [ LAPTOP DRIVE WITH ORIGINAL FILES] - and signing on XBOX LIVE

-----------------------

(NOT PLAYING ON LIVE)

MODCHIP ON - HD SWITCH pointing to - Primary Hard Drive [80 gig drive with EVOX, XBMP, MAME-X, and the rest of the goodies] - and NOT signing on XBOX LIVE

doesnt matter if the hard drisk is original or not... the only thing that matters is that your modchip is off when you play.

hey,

Why don't you just LOCK the 80 gig drive and use LIVE then..

I have a 120gig HD, locked with configmagic.. When I play ESPN NHL Hockey online, I just disable my modchip, and it works perfectly! Even with the new LIVE2.0 dash.!

But, to answer your q... If you can get the LapTop Hard Drive to work off a switch, I see nothing wrong with that set-up. You WILL still need to LOCK the laptop drive however.

the only reason why i started thinking about doing this is because, i 've read posts that people got banned from live even with the mod-chip off. maybe it was an urban legend? who knows... i havent updated to the latest version of live yet. but i'll still be looking in to adding the 2nd drive so it can be in its original state... ill do more research about that "MS scans hard drives" issue see if i find anything else.

Thanks for the replies

they probably got caught hacking games, which conveniently banned them the same time they got their update...

So if im getting this right, all i need to do to play on Live, is to turn my mod chip off and load the orginal setup(dashboard)??(I have not flashed my BIOS)
