this was posted in a newer post.....

"Hot swap" it with another xbox that has a X2.2 Lite installed and flash the chip using Evox and a BIOS folder in c:

Here is what I do when I hot swap:
1) Boot machine into EvoX using hacked BIOS and mod chip.
1B) Place 1MB BIOS (or combo of BIOSes) in a folder called BIOS in C: (through FTP and using X2BM to make the 1MB BIOS)
2) open Xbox being careful to keep components plugged in.
3) undo mod chip
4) Insert and install mod chip which recieved a bad flash
5) Set that mod chip's switches to Enable/Unprotect/Bank1
6) Select System Utilities in EvoX
7) Select Flash BIOS
8) Let it erase, reflash, and turn off XBox
9) Turn on XBox and your chip should now be flashed alright.

What if I know someone with a x2.2pro and I got the lite verison which had the bad flash (I think you know about it in my thread). Can this "hot swap" method be done?
A@ron
Yes you can the connections to the Xbox's motherboard are the same for the Lite and the Pro so it can be done. Just slip it on the header pins and plug in the d0 wire, switches and ground or pop in the wire harness and switches. You'll be up and running in minutes.

whiffin
Don't touch the PSU when the box is on - it hurts! wink.gif
A@ron
Yeah good point, keep your hands away from the power supply. I wonder what the amperage is comming out of that thing. Just remember its not the voltage that kills, a lesson an auto teacher taught the whole class by making them hold hands and connecting us to the distributer points biggrin.gif

A@ron

So this method works assuming that you can fix the bad flashed mod chip in the place of the good one.
I'm not sure about anyone else but those little b@stards can be trickey to line up.
A@ron
yeah, thats why I prefer the solder chips, pop em off and pop em on really quickly.

Can I just use the 4977 BIOS or do I need to create a seperate 1mb BIOS?
A@ron
You can use X2_4977 however, you will have to make it a 1MB BIOS by importing it into all four banks of X2BM and then saving it. I take X2_4977 and put it in the first two banks and then place Cromwell FlashBIOS in slots 3 and 4. This gives me X2_4977 in Bank 1 on the X2.2Lite and Cromwell on Bank 2. Either way the BIOS needs to be made into 1MB.

A@ron
ruckusboy
Ok, so from your explanation you I am assuming that the x2_4977 is a 256k bios and Cromwell is also 256k. Why is it necessary to have it in four slots? Can I have four seperate BIOS's installed, if so what switch settings are used? I only have bank1 and bank2.

Once I place this in the BIOS folder on C:/ when I do the BIOS flash it reads whatever BIOS is in that diretory?
A@ron
It is necessary to have four slots because your chip has two banks and 1 MB of flash space, 1MB/2=512 kb. This means each bank is 512 kb in size. Since most BIOSes are 256 kb you need to use X2BM and place the same BIOS in slots 1 and 2. There needs to also be two identicle BIOSes in slots 3 and 4. However, the BIOS in slots 1&2 does not have to be the same to 3&4. You can only have two bioses installed on a X2.2 Lite, the pros can handle 4 bioses as they have more switches IIRC.

Ok, I can't find the Utlilites folder. I'm in EvolutionX and there's a folder that says 'Flash XBOX v1.x ON-BOARD OR MOD CHIP' and there is a 'System Settings' folder but no System > Utilites.

Am I supposed to use a boot CD like the Slayer Auto Install? How do I load just EVOX?
A@ron
Here is what my evox.ini file looks like (this should help you) I'm not going to give you the whole ini as mine is quite long but I will give you from the [Menu] down:
[Menu]

Section "Root"
{
Item "Launch DVD",ID_Launch_DVD
Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot
Item "Power Off",ID_Power_Off

Section "System Utils"
{
Item "Settings",ID_Settings
Item "Flash BIOS",ID_Flash_Bios
Item "Backup",ID_Backup
Item "Skins",ID_Skins
}
Section "Launch Menu"

Section "Games"

AutoAddItem "e:games"
AutoAddItem "f:games"
SortAll
}
Section "Apps"
{
AutoAddItem "e:apps"
AutoAddItem "f:apps"
SortAll

}
}
}

Just pop that into your evox.ini (replace what currently there with it) and then ftp it to your xbox. Then the option you need should be there. See if that helps... if not I can email you my evox.ini file to help get you going.

I'm not seeing a menu tag at all. One thing, I'm using Slayer's Auto Install. Are your instructions assuming I have EvolutionX? I thought they were the same thing.

Ok, I was assuming you knew how to build a normal EvoX boot disk. Slayers is not the same as EvoX, Slayers is built on EvoX. Heres what you do, pop in your slayers disk, ftp into your xbox, assuming your using DHCP it should work no problems (you can see the xboxs ip on the main dash background). and place the evox dash (called evoxdash.xbe) and the evox.ini in your C:

Hope I am helping.

Well, I created an new evox.ini file with what you have in yours. I then booted which gave me the new menu. I swapped the chip which went green as soon as it was put on the mobo. I then flashed with the 4977/Cromwell bios. Works great!

That wasn't bad at all. I think I got lucky putting in the chip.

I like the new menu. One thing though, it's not seeing the couple games I put on the HD. I'm going to add a larger hard drive anyway, so it is no big deal. I'm just not sure how to add games and such.

Thanks for the great help.
A@ron
No problem, glad it worked without a problem. You can try adding your games manually by adding a line like this to your evox.ini in the right area:

Item "Nintendo", "e:appsnesdefault.xbe"

this will add an item named "Nintendo" and point it to the .xbe file in the path... should take care of your problem as auto add sometimes doesnt autoadd everything.
