I got Half-Life running on my Xbox with wine.
First, let me tell you that I am using Debian 0.4.1...
Now, my problems:
-The menu is INCREDIBLY slow, it takes about 10 or 15 seconds to get from one section to another.
-I don't know how to run console, I try the command "wine -winver win98 /home/[user]/.wine/fake_windows/Half-Life/hl.exe -console" but it doesn't recognize the -console part
-I can't use opengl. Well, I can, but the menu still goes slow, and the actual game itself runs VERY slow. So right now I'm just using software mode
-No sound....
If you need me to list any of the errors I get, let me know.
Should I be using WineX instead of Wine?
Anybody know what to do? It should be a standard thing since we all have Xboxes.
Thankyou for your time

I don't think Half-Life runs well on the xbox at all. Use your regular comp, or wait for Half-Life 2.

That's the best speed you'll get on an xbox running linux-->wine--->half life.

I don't think it can handle it, on mine, it's all fuked. It sounds all garbled, because the audio has to be delayed to stream, but it plays as the same time as the rest of the file

To run console, try this
wine -- hl.exe -console
it needs two dashes

This could be an issue with the hacked xbox driver? What window manager do you use.

imo, i think that the x can handle HL!
the only problem is there must be a gross inefficency in the 3d drivers (if there are any

) or maybe winex just sucks, but i'd get sine feed back from an irc channel (try the winex one!) just ask if someone has/can do benchmarks in linux using winex with <game> and then with windoze with the same game... it might be the os your using...
ps:
does tuxracer work?
i mean... is it REALLY FUCKING SLOW?

The answer is there are NO 3D drivers for Xbox under linux, that's why those things run slow

He know's he is running it in software mode, Now were moving on to sound. If Debian is using the alsa driver, im sure it is. Wine dosn't work to good with alsa.
As far as winex is concerned he's using wine, and Winex is something completey diffrent. as for speed that, depends on the game. Some games run just as good if not faster than in windows. Other's run a little slower.

my frend runs hl counterstrike on his xbox linux using winex of course using softwhere mode. you need toskip the menu all together and connect directly to a game otherwise its panfully slow and winex likes to freez at the menu. i have the command set somwehere lol ill find it. but it does run fine in the xbox in softwhere mode fine perfectly playble.
he tryed reg wine like you and had the same problems. wile the xbox does support opengl its mesa softwhere gl and its horridly slow on anything not just the xbox. untill they get 3d acell running dont even attempt a 3d acelled game.

Sorry I was directly replying to Chicken Scratch Boy in relation to the 3D comment

wine hl.exe -- hl.exe -soft Defalt -w 640 -windowed -game cstrike -noipx -nojoy -numericping -console -toconsole
thats how i got it working in winex without any frezzes. bypasses the menu and into all toghther. insted of always typing all that i just made a script to launch it. -soft can be d3d or gl if your running on a pc.
