At first I thought I got lucky when I discovered I had a 1.0 XBOX, since I had read it's the easiest to mod. But I'm going to use mine mainly as a media center (divx, mp3), and the freakin' GPU fan is noisy - especially when the room is quiet (which it will be when we're trying to watch movies).

I searched the boards to see if there are any guides for replacing the noisy fan with one that is quieter, etc., but saw nothing.

Any suggestions?

If there are no workarounds, I may chip the box and then sell it - using that money to go out and get another, quieter box. Has anyone heard whether re-furbs are stilll largely 1.0 boxes? That would suck to go through all that only to get another noisy 1.0.

and most refurbs ive seen lately adn 1.0 and 1.1
i liek the 1.1s...99.9% of the benefits of a 1.0 and none of the loud ass GPU fans, lol

yeah, lol, that is about the best thing to do, but ti doesnt always work (liek when im watching a movie or playing a game after everyone else has gone to sleep, lol)

For movies where lots of stuff gets blowed up, I could definately just turn up the volume. But during the quieter scenes I know the fan's gonna annoy me. And I'm not even going to get into the ramifications of blasting the volume if I "accidently" download some pron
