Hey has anyone played this game, i have read a lot of reviews and stuff but i have learned to not always beleive what reveiwers say so i am asking other players because players are better reveiwers than the real reveiwers cause most reveiwers are journalist not hardcore gamers. So any help on this if it is close to vice city or its better or worse. anything you like or dont like.

i like this game more than gta3/vc but that's only because i've beaten both gta3 and vc on the PC and the fun has worn off, true crime is new and different

I like true crime alot, huge damn city. It really IS LA. Although I did find a pretty lame bug that kept me from catching a perp. Somehow we both tried to enter the same car and he and the car were un touchable. Other then that I like it alot. I dislike the soundtrack, rap sucks, custimizable though.

as for true crime if "gameplay" is high on your list of priorities you'll love it.

I particularly like the fight scenes, they're very well realised & give a whole new dimension to the game.

my only complaint is that the 3d engine doesn't do the xbox justice(asthetically) .

IMO Its average.

Yes they recreated L.A but it doesnt look half as good as The Getaways recreation of London. Its like a GTA/Max Payne with hand-to-hand combat, I wouldnt say its brilliant, maybe one to rent. I also thought the soundtrack was rubbish too.

I enjoyed GTAIII on the PS2 immensely. True Crime is fun, but there's so much fighting its almost like GTA meets Final Fight or something. The voice acting is horrible and the music is (and this is my opinion) horrible. The NAACP should jump all over this game. That's a joke.

Its not a bad game , I've played it a little and it seems VERY open ended. I spent like 3 hours just running around arresting ppl...lol I still prefer Gta but this is a good contender...

I think people will be much happier with the game if they evaluate it separately from GTA. It's not an "or" decision and the game was never meant to be exactly like GTA. There is a city, freedom of movement, and choice - that's it. It appears that those people who are looking for a supercharged GTA are disappointed while a good portion of those people who are playing the game on its own merits look to be having a lot of fun with it. It's like convincing a child to try new foods. That being said, I haven't played it much and have been wrecking havoc in Vice City riding my scooter and wielding my machete <I'm the only machete wielding scooter riding serial killer ever>.

Yes GTA Double Pack is both Vice city and GTA3.

I also think True Crime is average. The graphics are 10x better then GTA but I don't think the gameplay is as good. The Storyline of true crime is done better not that the story is actually better. The controls of True Crime are also harder. I dunno its a bit confusing to me. Crue Crimes AI is also pretty bad. Cars run you over too much. I don't think either game owns the other though. True crime is lacking in many areas and GTA is majorily lacking in the graphics.

The thing is that the game was so hyped up before it was released. That's often not fair to the games. Most people have so high hopes for those games, and when (if) the game doesn't stand up to their hopes and "dreams" thay are dissapointed and don't see the game for what it is, but instead for what it's not.

Still IT does lack in some areas. I think the driving is kind of lame. The steering is bad.

The controls are hard to master... but as with all games you get used to them.

I see many that don't like the music, but it's good. I don't normally listen to hip-hop (I'm in to progressive/tribal house stuff), but it really fits fine with the game.

I have a question to all of you living in L.A. Do you just have like 30 diffrent car brands?
There should be more diffrent cars.

Tha map is huge! And said to be a very good recreation of L.A. Can't really say anything of the recreation as I havn't been there. But it sure is big anyway... It takes like forever to cross the city. And this is a good thing.

Fighting scenes are cool. I find them a bit hard... but maybe thats just me

The voice acting are cool! I have nothing to complain about here. Fun to see some hollywood names in the credits

True Grime is good, I would say better then Vice and GTA 3 -- the graphics suck as they did on PS2, is this what they (ps2'ers) were saying -- "We got GTA Vice City" all the time..well if that the best Ps2 has -- keep it....lol....Xbox has so many cool games coming..many already this month alone....

I do like both GTA games (how could you not), but haven't really played them that much. I was pretty excited when I got my
hands on True Crime. I played it for about 15 minutes. That's about all I need to play. The driving sucks imo. I also couldn't
stand the shooting system, but that's just me. There is one game I am REALLY waiting for...MEDAL OF HONOR:Rising Sun.
Now THAT is gonna live up to it's expectations for sure.

its crap.. total crap,, shooting is impossible, there is no way to be accurate, driving is a joke,, and fighting is pathetic.
its a game that stole every idea from GTA and then fucked it up.

the only good thing is the sound track. wish gta had some nice ghetto beats like true crime does.

I disagree with all the naysayers here. Graphically both GTA games walk all over it, but the gameplay is better. I like the open ended ness of it, and it can be fun driving around waiting for the dispatcher to call in with a bulletin. The fighting sections are well done and it's a nice treat that when you are in a bare knucle fistfight with some perps, people actually stop and watch the fight. And cars too. And if you walk into traffic blindly you WILL get run over. Which gives it a more real edge than GTA. The shooting sections are badly done tho, and hopefully they will be fixed in the next game. The manual targeting is especially bad.

I agree mostly with IGN's review of the game. This is a good game. I get more out of it than the two GTA's. Which I stuck through mostly for the story.

Shooting impossible? Practice more then... I think it's just you who sucks on aiming

Uhm, what the hell are you talking about? The aiming is spot-on. Just try harder and practice more. The fighting can get repetitive, but there's combos that can whup your opponent but good.
The driving isn't horrible, but the key layout is whack (why would you put the accel button right next to reverse and handbrake?) and makes me wish it was more like GTA's, but other than that, TC is a good, solid game.

i can agree there the driving around a nice big city is fun,, but the driving is like driving on a sheet of ice. they needed to add more mass and friction to the vehicles.

Uh, there's three BUTTONS for moves, but like I said, there's many more than three moves in the game. Try using the analog pad a little and using some buttons in tandem and you'll notice that there's other moves. It's no SC2 or Tekken, but it's got a decent fighting system.

i said it before and ill say it again... they TOTALLY ripped of EVERYTHING from GTA, and tried to cash in on the fact that GTA double pack came out at the same time, then they added more stuff to it,, and in the end came out with a MEDIOCRE game that's ONLY positive side is the soundtrack.!

it is fun to drie around and get dispatched to rpberies and muggings and car jackings.
it isnt fun when your out running around and for some "strange reason" all of the sudden everyone within 100 feet of you is getting robbed or fighting or car jacked or shot.
it isnt fun when your driving and you turn the stick and your car slides like its on ice.

AIMING ?? there is no friggin aiming in the game,, the stupid way they have the aiming,, some goofy reticule in slo mo that is impossible to tell if your aiming properly unless your right in front of the person. shooting from anywhere but right in front of a person results in less than spectacular, "Oh your gunna get it now fucker!!!" and they either run away or attempt to come at you.
the best way to wield the gun is the simply blindly aim and rapid fire.

the whole frisking and handcuffing people is nice,, for about 15 min,, then its yawn city.


overall its fun to drive around for a short time and take dispatch calls,, then ,, well,, there aint much fun to the game.


oh and for ME the worst part,, when your actually trying to follow the story line,, if they are going to use a map they could at least make it OBVIOUS where and what your doing,, it took me forever to figure out that the green arrow was where i should be going and not the "North" indicator.

go to the chinese restaurant,, yeah whatever,, im new here can you give me directions,, oh shit i just got car jacked,, oh well im a cop im going to go kill everyone in the game and not pay for it.

Hey, man, I understand if you don't like it, and I can understand why you think it's ripping off GTA (it's got alot of GTA's elements in it, after all). But it seems like you didn't even *try* to play the game. Also remember that the game was released for the PS2 and XBox, and was being developed before the double pack was even hinted at. I don't think they're actually aiming to compete with GTA, since it's *not* GTA... it has more of an emphasis on accurate shooting and cinematic hand-to-hand fighting, methinks.
Not to say I think it's better than GTA (GTA is better for mindless fun, as the cops are easier to kill than the angry mobs in TC).

I like this game. I thought the sound track was AWESOME. It was hard to get used to the different controls since I have played GTA so much. I think the fighting gets boring pretty fast as its just button mashing. The map is HUGE.

That's a little strange to rank a 'rent only' game, on a scale of 1 to 10, 8. So it has to be damn near perfect to buy?
Seriously, tho, if you're using the 1 to 10 scale, most people consider anything under about 6 to be worth only renting. At least, most gaming magazines and online reviews seem to stick to that unspoken system.

The graphics are Lame but the gameplays fun. GTA is better though.

The gameplay and graphics are great. It's kinda a mix of GTA and Max Payne. Once you get used to the shooting system, I'm sure you'll love it. GTA doesn't really even compare to this game... they are on two different levels.

Btw sulfur, you ended up fighting him because you were still in the fighting mode. If you had hit UP on the directional pad, it would have put you in normal mode, where an arrest is possible. Read the damn manual before you knock on a game for it's controls... You can't arrest someone on fighting mode as you can't in shooting mode either.

[edit] I forgot to mention that although the game is awesome, I do think it was released to early. There are a few glitches that could have been fixed if they worked on it a month more or so. But hey, 250 sq miles of L.A.... you can expect a few glitches. [/edit]

ha! thats it blockbuster = plan is to not included manuel so you have to take longer to figure out stuff, so you end up renting it agian.

The Block Buster near my house will give you the manual if you ask them....

I think this game is awesome sure the lines get a little cheezy after a while and after I have to chase down Jay DeLeno's car about 10 times it gets old but man it is addicting as hell. I keep trying to become a good cop but I just end up shooting people and running over civilians. But i read that this game began production before GTA3 came out so how can people say it is a rip. Got them both and I haven't even looked at GTA already beat them both on PC. I just got to find all the damn dog bones and I will be fine with rolling around in the snoop deville. fo shizzle dizzle.

Has anybody here found all the dog bones, I found one by chance when I was on a car chase, their pretty big so it's doesn't so difficult to find them.

Then I remember that I still need to unlock Snoop Dogg, so I looked at the map and went to the another place with a dog bone and to my surprise I couldn't find it, I looked every where but I could find the damn thing.

Can somebody tell me if they've collected alll the bones and how easy are they to find, where are they hidden.

I have already completed one ending which was Poor, I was such a bad cop that I had to restart the whole game again. I had bad cop rating of -81, now that's because I didn't think that I need to be a good cop to play the other episodes.

I restarted and now I have a good cop rating of +107 which only shows in the Stats when you load the profile, while playing it only shows +99.

You don't need to restart- simply play a mission that has no time limit, go around, and solve crimes 'properly'. Then save after you're a good cop again.

I don't get how people can have a problem with TCs music.

Hip Hop fits this game perfectly.

When I think of hip hop/rap, the streets and the "thug" life comes to mind, which is exactly what this game's about.

When I think of rock/heavy metal/alt rock......etc, I think of surburbia, kids in garages, devil worship.....etc, which is exactly what this game is not about.

the fighting in TC is way betta than in GTA(u can get new moves and combos) and in TC u have unlimited ammo and u don't have to waste time aiming urself! and the cars! u win new cars in street races and stuff!

this game i give 9.5/10!

Ever played a game and thought "how bout there was a game like this but with this feature added or this aspect fixed" ?

It's really that simple how games are made. They borrow from old and invent new.

I mean for me GTA gunfights were boring and annoying since they always had a fast pace to them missing the cinematic feel. I always thought like "hey what if GTA had some slow-mo so you can enjoy the killings or make it easier to handle?".

And then I played True Crime. And I'm highly satisfied

If games were only made only upon original concepts and ideas we'd be out of games ages ago...
