for the next 48 hours or so i'll be wrapping up a pre-release version of the new dash. the ability to actually save things now leaves open more possibilities for options that can be either on, off, etc...

please add to this thread things that you think should be added to this list of changable options
like the topic says - be realistic !!! i don't wanna see any "add ftp" in this thread lol

just so you have an idea of where i'm going with this, i'll start us off...

idea : screensaver on/off should (will) be a user changable option.

now do what you guys do best and post your thoughts

Realistic ideas:

1) All previous options in config.ini (tHc orbs, BG music, ST titles permanent, Auto Launch DVDx2 on dvd insertion, auto launch, etc.)
2) Audio visualizer on permanently or with right thumb press only!
3) Of course...menu type
4) folder locations...
5) hot keys...
6) cellwall properties : on/off ....waver/spinner.... speed....not sure if possible to put variables in the shell transform but it woud be cool

I know you already have some of my ideas (hopefully they can be incorporated into the pre or FINAL release) Here they are again just to make sure.....

1. A menu in the MSdash DVD player this is displayed when the DVD is stopped or finishes that gives you the option of turning the XBOX off or going back to the main MSdash. Obviously pushing play at this menu will just resume the movie as it currently does. There could be an option in config.ini for a 'turn off after DVD movie' yes/no however I think the meny would work much better as sometimes you want to go back to the main menu and not power it off.

Create a selection in the settings menu to switch between Backgrounds, like so

One other thing, what about some type of setting that would let you toggle fan speeds, or, say, change the color schemes?

How about adding a skin randomizer. Every time you boot you get a different skin, instead of manually changing it yourself? Maybe i'm in the wrong forum, but I think its a good idea.

A daft idea i suppose but how about when navigating menu lists that up and down move the list as it does now but left and right does the same thing faster and if possible 'wrap-around' menus. These 2 options would allow you to get a games that are in the middle or end of your list a lot quicker.

a trainer menu

on evox I renamed all my default.xbe files for my trainers to trainers.xbe. It would be great if the dash would scan for these and make a separate trainers menu

I Would Love To See The Games Menu Like The Saved Game Grid With A List Of All The Games And When You Select One It Comes Up With That Little Menu That Has A Graphic Of The Game In It And The Copy/Delete Options. These Could Be Replaced With Options Such As :

Play
Play With Trainer (Option Only Shown If There Is A Trainer.xbe In The Folder Of The Game As I Have Also Done This)
Delete (Passworded, If It Is Possible To Do This.)

Just To Clarify I Do Not Mean The Full Saved Game Grid Style. I Just Mean The Submenu.

The One That Has Number Of Saves, Content Downloaded And The Size In Blocks.

maybe this isn't realistic and I don't know if anyone has tapped into this but I figured if anyone can, it's you..... is there any possible way to speed up the animations (transitions) when switching between menus and such?

ok it would be nice to edit the config.ini file in the dash insead of the config maker it is a good proggi and all, just it would be better to change you setting in the srttings sub menu if it is possible or if you could give me a hint how to do it

1. Scrolling names
Sometimes a game/app name is too long for the menu and it disappears off button, how about when an item is highlighted (and it exceeds x number of characters) it scrolls right to left so you can read the whole name.

2. Soundtracks from MP3s
Being able to specify a directory in config.ini that the Soundtrack code will randomly grab an mp3 from and start playing it as soon as the dash comes up (with optional display of track name). The ability to disable and turn on/off aswell as go back to ambient sounds.

3. Display stats
Similar to Evox although it doesnt necessarily have to be on the main screen, just an option in Settings with ip address, temp, HD free space.

4. Switch colours of dash
If possible it would be cool to switch between red, green and blue dashes on the fly (or at next reboot). Instead of having to reinstall a different set of patches.

5. Ability to run programs from main menu
Previous dashboards have had Xbox Media Player on the main menu, unless there was a reason it was taken off it would be cool to have it back (optionally). Also being able to execute another dashboard like evox from the main menu. I really just need a games menu, XBMP and Evox, I dont use other apps or emulators so submenus arent really needed and are just an extra button click.

volume control for the background music in the main menu would be cool too, but not crucial, i just happen to enjoy the sound effects the menus have

it is true its kindda hard to tell whats is and what isn't possible considering what you have accomplished, i never thought it could be taken this far, and yet it has. I say fck it, just release as is (it already kicks ass), and if any ideas should ever come up, just remember that apples do not fall far from their trees... im sure u'd be one of the first to have them....

Would it be possible to extract the image and save it to the game directory as a format displayable in the menu? If the dash could do this automatically or a small app could be written this would be a possible solution.


EDIT: Other dashes (AVlaunch) use the images, so it has to be possible to get them out save them and read them

Dont know if its already possible but some info displayed on the main dash screen would be handy, such as HD size remaining info and that sort.

Can you make it so you can turn off the dvd player all together. So when you turn it on with a dvd in it it wont put the dongle screen up.

- Map the remote's DISPLAY button to launch DVD/CD

- Create a seperate TAG/Switch 'readme' with all possible tags/switches and where to place them within the Config.INI file to help keep it's intial file size as small as possible.

- Also (delete if inapproprate or allready mentioned) find out how to fix pop-up dialoge that don't go away when you use the remote (Menus move and can be selected, but while msg is on screen...used to happen with XBMP with older versions...in newer version though, from time to time it does still happen)

Have you tried the original password option? I thought it was much more useful and faster to get into the locked programs. Originally you entered a button code (up, down, left, right, X, Y, ect) much like the parental control, plus people couldnt see what you were selecting because it was on your joypad as opposed to onscreen. It would be very nice to choose what kind of password you prefer. Everyone likes variety:) Other than that I couldnt ask for more (although alot of what has been said here to have made it in sounds fantastic).

how about adding support for more than one xbe for a game i have ahlo on my HD it show up and everyhting but i have 2 other xbes for it ones trained ones an edited trainer they are default2.xbe and default3.xbe if i anem them to default.xbe it wont work cause i already have the non trained on ethere supposrt for this would be awesome cause i have amny other games like this

the NEW version does do auto add from games, apps, emus, and dashboards folders. Yes it does. Like he said, you obviously haven't used the new dash. You dont need Xtech's dummy save creator anymore!

Well, you could say that about any dashboard.... "it would be neat, but you can hotbutton to ___ other dashboard"

Not that I'd be thrilled about getting an FTP server in xboxdash, but the possibilities that arise could be interesting... perhaps someone might even figure out some sort of multitasking hack.

It's related to the dash. It's the config maker. it's cool and everything, but I was thinking maybe you coders could make it easier. Like for instance show pictures of what menus are you editing? not realtime pictures but just show which menus we are editing.

All buttons configarable apart from the left click for the media player and right click for the visualizer.
I like to have the l and r trigger for the bgm on and off, i know i could change in the xap but it makes it 700x easier if you could configure from the config,ini.

Also dont take this the wrong way the way the full screen vis is fine nout wrong with it but it seems to magnified if you no wot i mean, you can just make out the equalizer kind of bars, it would be nice if you could see these at the bottom going along to the music.

Apart from them to suggestions this release is great , the best so far (obviously)

Id like to have more soundtrack options in the dash. Like being able to set it to one song or one soundtrack that randomly plays. Also, in the morning I like a cold beer. What about the dash bringing me a cold beer?

I Take some screens running here with my skin (i dont use anymore evox! just for ftp )

Not really critical and not really shit you can put in the config mode but because we are throwing around ideas:

1) I think that the dash looks amazing as the stock blue color...Jb's purple dash is even cooler, but I think a lot of people will want to put backgrounds in....would it be possible to make a menu that allows you just type in the name of the xbx and the name you want to appear on the menu so you can select backgrounds....maybe a random background on/off toggle? I know it sucks that you have to add the xbx to the xip but at least the option would be there...

An easier solution might be to just include a few different stock backgrounds, coordinated with the blue color scheme, with the dash...

2) faster scrolling on menus with button press

3) I don't know how successful you were at finding free 3D mesh icons but maybe some generic icons in the orbs on the different menus would be nice...purely for aesthetic reasons. If not icons, maybe the audio visualizer; just something to fill the orb...

Anyway, none of the above are really needed with this release..just some ideas...

IGR would be really nice, if possible. Maybe even editing the X-Selector code to use it for IGR? Just a thought. Thx

2nd: Re-Request (6th from BobMcGee ): turn on/off da cellwall (on mainscr only would be great & enough) through the conf (ya wizard is amazin'), even I know it's hard 2do 'cause it's a mod in xap in xip... in a near future perhaps

3nd: additionally 2 da 5 existing colors, could ya please release a whitey one (according to Midnight_Worlock's hexbe preset, pm me if ya need it) 'cause the hex edit with actual hexbe or dashcolorpatcher versions didn't work... thx 2 correct me if i'm wrong.

just go into config mode - pick a main menu button - press A and change the text to games - then move up/down/left/right to pick the menu style and contents (press X after picking each) - exit and save - and bam - there's your games in main menu - or whatever else you wanna put there

config mode was made so ou can change whatever yo uant to whatever you want - whenever you want - so all changes go into effect immediately
