I have a queston about something. Maybe u have come across this before. When i got home today, i hooked my box back up and when i go into the skins menu in evox, there is one skin in the list that does not work, by not working i mean goes to the original evox skin. One of them i put on today called blu worked great today when i ftped it over. when i got home and tried to use it, it just sent me back to the evox skin orginal one. I have replaced the dash with a later 3752 version, and i have reinstalled evox with slayers and installed the 3921 version. could it be somethin in the ini file. because it does it on a fresh install of evox. there are always skins u don't want after the install, so the ones i don't want i delete them, well the problem just goes to another skin. can't figure this one out. the skins work i know because i have been using them forever. evox just seems like it picks a skin to not work, if i delete the non workin skin, it just picks another one. help. is something screwed up?

I also ran into that problem yesterday. I had tried putting a certain skin on someone's xbox (blackbolt_consolev3) and for some reason when I selected that one, it only showed the original EvoX skin. I didn't really think much of it.
but...
I use the same skin on my own xbox, and today I decided to ftp over a few more (just to try them out), and while I was at it, I decided to try FTPing the working blackbolt_consolev3 skin from my xbox (where it worked just fine before), over to my computer so that I could load it onto other people's machines. I thought that maybe the copy I originally had on my PC (that I loaded onto the person above's xbox) had something wrong with it. So I figured that I'd FTP over the working one from my xbox.
Anyways, after doing this, for some strange reason I can't get that skin to work on my xbox either! Strangest thing. Whenever I select it, it only shows the original EvoX skin. I've even tried re-FTPing it back onto the xbox, but this hasn't worked either. I was going to search the forums here, and I stumbled across this thread right away (which seems to be indentical to my problem).
If anyone knows what the heck could be causing this, please let us know as this is annoying the hell outta me. I'm sure it's just something real simple that we've overlooked. Weird though...
Thanks

i am really not sure if this helps, but there is a line in my evox.ini that, i think (i say i think because im at school right now and i cant exactly check) that says something about using the original skin, mabye its something with that?
P.S.
I have had this same problem, i hope SOMEONE fixes it

I ended up downloading a few more of blackbolt's skins (thanks for the link BTW! I love his skins!). And I dumped about 4 more onto my xbox (and also re-FTPed the blackbolt_consolev3 skin) and the new ones all work just fine, but for some reason I'm still having the same problem with the blackbolt_consolev3 skin. Not really a big deal (as I really like the v4 blue one anyways now!), but it's just an annoying little problem.

maybe it has something to do with the naming of the jpgs?
im not sure, but i had the same problem; i fixed it by changing evox.ini - go down to [skin_original], comment out the existing contents, and then copy/paste the contents of your desired skin's skin.ini (everything after [skin_<skinname>].

The problem is the ini file that coms with the skins. The ini file points to a folder where the pictures are stored. You have to change this to the plase you store your skin files.

Just wondering if anyone has figured out what the heck is causing this? I've come across this on a few machines now, and each machine picks a different skin that it doesn't want to display. Weird. Just damn annoying...
And yes,... the .ini files are fine. The skins work on some machines, but not others.

Makes no sense. Skin worked fine for months, then suddenly stop working. I tried renaming the images, folder and associated info in the ini to no avail. Can' be image size 'cause I gots comparable size skins that work.

Actually I have had 2 skins that decided not to work at one point. Both of them were original skins that came with EvoX. It's so annoying though, you got an amazing skin that you want to see yet you can't.

Keep in mind, that I renamed my images, redid the ini file and changed the folder name. Still this skin will not work. How does evox keep track of the skin?
Next step is to resample the image. Hopefully this will change the image signature and allow it to work.

Like I mentioned above,... taking the exact same skin folder and putting it onto another xbox will work just fine. But it seems as though since I've upgraded to the newest EvolutionX dash, at least one of the skins won't work on every xbox I've modified.
I've got an EvoX boot disc that I use to copy everything over to xboxes that I've modifed, and every one of these xboxes won't show the blackbolt_blue skin (although it works perfectly on my xbox - and everything is exactly the same! wtf!). I've also got my boot disc setup to use the blackbolt_red skin, and this never works either.
dunno...

okay,... I've actually modded a few more machines - but put bigger harddrives into them and for some reason they would show the blackbolt_blue_v4 skin, whereas all the other ones that I've modified (probably 20+ with this problem now) with the original drives won't show the blackbolt_blue_v4 skin. It's the same on every machine. I thought this was pretty weird, as the only difference between these machines is the bigger harddrive (obviously) and the 'Use 'F' Drive' option in the evox.ini file. That's it. Everything else is identical because I copy all the files from the same boot disc for every machine I modify.
I do have to admit however that I never had a chance to scroll through all the skins on these machines with the bigger harddrives that would actually show the blue skin, but I'm sure one of the skins wouldn't have worked (just like on my own machine (which has a bigger drive in it).
Just trying to shed some more light on this topic, as I'm sure I'm not the only one annoyed by this...
*EDIT* - I should have also mentioned that the blackbolt_red_v4 that I use as the skin on the boot disc itself never worked in either machines (the ones with or without the bigger harddrive). It just shows the original EvoX skin.

The times that has happened to me, I fixed them all by checcking the path of the jpg file in the .ini file against the actual location where it's stored. For example, some downloaded skin had a path of /My Skins/.. etc but my actual path was C:..../skins/blackboltxx.jpg or something. When I corrected the location agree exactly, it worked fine. When it can't find the file, it goes to the original. Check your paths for agreement very carefully when you get a sking behaving like that.

It's definately not just the skin path/ini issues for those that think this is a simple solution.. I can't details of all the skins I've had issues with this, but it varies. I've also noticed that after loading a couple more skins, I'm having problems with other different skins, and the skins that didnt work started working.
I believe it's an internal EvoX problem, most likely related to the wallpaper cache. Will try to dig up some useful details and try to come up with a reproducable problem, something that might actually be helpful to the team.

Just found this,... was posted by big jon:
Your evo files are set to read only......... ftp to your box..... copy the evox.ini file to your pc, right click and untick the read only box....... then copy the file back...
I'm at work right now, so I'll have to try it out when I get home. Dunno if it'll help, but you never know. Or if one of you guys wanna give it a whirl in the meantime...

Feb 5 2004, 01:14 PM
false alarm fellas...
The more I thought about this, the more I figured it wasn't the problem because it is possible to change the skin, and the ini file does in fact change, therefore it wouldn't be read-only.
But just for the hell of it (because this has annoyed me to no end) I decided to check, and just as I had expected, the evox.ini wasn't marked read-only.
I wonder if it might be something different in the evox.ini file? Maybe someone who hasn't run into this problem (all of their skins work) could post their evox.ini file for us to compare. Just another idea...

Any solution for this?
In my case, the skin at the bottom of the list is lost. Plus a few others. Making a dummy skin called Z-something doesn't solve the problem.

Feb 14 2004, 09:58 PM
Nope,... still haven't found a solution for this. Each system seems to be different as to which skin it doesn't want to display.

It seems that it is certain combinations of (semi-corrupt) skins that mess things up.
Try to delete all the skins on your box and then upload e.g. two skins at the time and check if they are all OK.
It worked for me, plus I cleaned up and got rid of the skins that I never use anyway.
At least my favourite skins work now.
This is maybe not the best solution and it would be must nicer to have the (apparent) bug in EvoX fixed.
The presence of one (maybe) corrupt theme shouldn't be able to disrupt the function of the rest of the (good) themes. (If this is the case, that is.)

I applogize to the team, seems all it really is just an issue with the skin. I think I have all my skins properly working now, these skin authors just need to be more careful and test there skins better before releasing them on AllXboxSkins...
ArcX_V2 can be fixed by repairing the line and switching
[ArcX_V2] to [Skin_ArcX_V2]
edit: nevermind, seems to have now caused an issue with a skin that was working before, now all of sudden not working. this problem is really strange I really can't explain it anymore.

I'd still love to see a solution for this. It's obviously some sort of bug with the dashboard. Have we determined that this problem only occurs with the 3935 dash?

Problem exists with 3921 also. I have created a thread in the official

I had the same problem trying to add some wallpapers. I went to my F drive to the skin folder and added them. They did not show up. So i then said ok ill delete some of the ones i dont use. Rebooted and there still there? Turns out that my C: drive and F: drive both had the skin folder?? Well long story short i put them on the c: drive and everything works fine now. Also edit your skin.ini

I use this skin. What you have to change is first of all add Skin_ to your .ini and second of all change the folder name for this skin to Arcx_v2. If you do not do both of these things then your skin will not work, or you can just copy my .ini and use that. I check every skin before I install it and there are always mistakes like that. If you like a skin a lot and can not get it to work keep the .jpg (s) and use a skin creator to recreate the skin yourself as I did for the AnnaValle skin. Also why do some skin names show up twice on my xbox list of skins?
Here is the arcx v2 skin.ini and again make sure the folder is ArcX_v2

Hi everybody. First and only post in this board. I have 2 xbox and one of them had the problem. The thing was that every skin that worked on one loaded ok in the other but i canīt change the first one.(skin) When just a skin doesnīt work i ussually change sizes, the skin.ini or the format of the skin images (.bmp or .jpg)
But in this case the solution is:
The evox.ini has some properties like all linux and shared files in win has. the typical rww or www or something similar. The thing is that the file has only read attributes so when you try to modify the file (even via ftp) the system donīt allow you. What i did was taking a copy of my good xbox evox.ini, renaming the evox.ini in the xbox to something like evox.old and uploading the new evox.ini .
That way it should override the problem

I found a Solution. You guys need to take a look @ the ini. File that comes with the skin, there are 2 important lines in there, they point to the directory where Evox will look for the skin.
It looks like this EXAMPLE-> Main = "\skin\dbz\main.jpg"
Launch = "\skin\dbz\launch.jpg"
When I first downloaded the skin the name was just dbz, but without knowing the results I renamed it To Dragon BallZ Which prevented it from working Because Evox was Looking for a folder called dbz (shown in EXAMPLE) and not Dragon BallZ.

Go back and Compare The folder name that is stored in the skin.ini file and the name of the folder that corresponds to it in your Evox Skins folder. If they don't match just rename the Folder on your xbox through an FTP Client to the one in the skin.ini file.
After doing this reboot and see if the Skin loads then.
Yeah it's that simple

Nothing is happening yet... I've tried everything, still nothing works. I created a nice skin, took me quite a while, because there aren't any GOOD halo 2 skins out there (I don't know why, but that's why I wanted to create one!) Now that it's not working for my xbox, why and what are the chances that it will work on another person's? If you want the file to test it out yourself, PM me or add me on msn: k1n.3t1c@gmail.com (yeah, I'm able to use gmail on an msn messenger:P

This whole xbox moding and evox thing isn't new to me. If a problem comes up my friend and I can take care of it. We do a lot of FTPing because we download our xBox games. Well our skin folder is messed up. We can't add any sort of file type in there. We can add anything anywhere else but in our skin folder which is E/Dashboard/skin
