ok. i have about 2000+ .smc (SNES) roms that i would like to store on my hdd. due to lengthy filenames on some of them they must be edited by cutting off some letters. i was wondering if there was an easy way to add all of my .smc's to .zip's according to their original filename instead of doing them one by one. that way i can shorten the names of the .zip's but still have the full length name inside of the .zip when read by xsnes9x...

Hate to tell you this but..

*coughs*

It sucks to be you. Gotta zip them all up seperately. Zip programs as far as I know aren't made like that. They're made to zip multiple files into one cluster of files, not zip multiple files into multiple zips.

Actually no, what he is asking is possible. WinRAR, for example, give's you the option of saving files to inidividual archives when you select multiple files to compress. That would achieve the result of zipping them up. Additionally there are programs that can automatically shorten a large number of filenames as well. One that I know of is called REBRAT. Do a search for it and see if it suits your needs.

I found a proggy called Batch Zip Toolkit which does the job nicely. Nice and quick too cool.gif

Keeps all the original filenames as well.

I have used romzipper and it is great for batch conversion. You can select a whole folder to zip. I have used this for zipping a WHOLE N64 set so it is very stable

Yes, it's very simple. Use clrmame pro. Download the program and get the SNES dat file that goes along with it.

When you are complete with zipping them and you want to upload them to your xbox just use the best tool ever made for this it is called baRenameX. With baRenameX just drop the first 7 characters in the file name (i.e. 0070 - ) then tell it to rename them all for the XBOX.

Almost all of the people in the forums who have a problem with long file names and bad characters could benefit from using baRenameX.

I stand corrected.
