I'm almost certain there is no video input at the back of the xbox connection, it's only output

Your best best is to get an external USB Tv card and get controller extension and change USB cable so that it connect to the xbox controller cable which can break off.

What're we good for? Well, for starters, we're good enough at other shit that we're too busy to answer your oft-repeated question. A search could've turned up your answer.
Anyway, what the last poster suggested would work only for XBox Linux and you'd get piss-poor video quality, as the controller ports are only USB 1.0 (11MBP/sec... slow as molasses).

Isn't the issue that USB 1.0's data rate isn't fast enough for uncompressed video data transfer, but would be fast enough for compressed video data?

So a USB video capture device with onboard MPEG encoding might work?

How else are those dreamix.sourceforge.net guys going to get the xbox to work as a video recorder (unless they're full of it, of course).

1.1 isn't much faster- I think it goes at 22MB/sec. Still not fast enough, even if the USB capture device did on-board encoding (unless you're willing to live with very low-quality video, and a capture device with on-board encoding isn't cheap to begin with, last I checked). I hate to say it, but Dreamix is just that- a dream. That is, unless they figure out how to add a PCI bus to the LPC or some really crazy shit like that (not that it isn't possible, but the fact that no one has done it yet kinda shows you the difficulty of figuring it out or building it).

how about a pc using a t.v card? surly you can encode on the pc, and decode on the xbox. Over ethernet it might just be enough....

I guess you can do that with XBMP now or something... it was on the news page. I don't think you can encode with the XBox- just stream a TV signal, but it's just about as close as it's gonna get for now.
Proving me wrong would be cool, of course.

I read a suggestion that Dreamix is working on an ethernet tv/video capture device. I guess it would be like an ethernet security cameras (eg http://hardwarecentral.dealtime.com/xPF-Tr...dware_TV_IP200), but with a capture card rather than camera built into it.
