The original idea was to stretch custom GameIcons (semi-transparent screenshots) across the entire skin - check out the pics below. The good news is the new version of UnleashX makes it much easier to maintain - simply upload a decent screenshot/coverart into the relevant game folder, calling it "icon.png". The effect is pretty impressive. If you can't find a decent screenshot, use a temporary image (e.g. a small transparent image) to avoid the embedded icon appearing.

I've opted for a very basic background, to minimise the interference with the screenshot.

Here's what it looks like when you select a game.

I'll zip it and upload it this weekend, with some screenshots and instructions.

I have to admit, I usually shun on "chick/wallpapers" for dashboard backgrounds, as they lack creativity and 90% of the time, the creator cannot even size them correctly resulting in a stretched out distorted image.

has me intriged. I love it man. Not sure what it is, but its very artistic and dirty at the same time. do some more "close up" work bro, very cool stuff.

Love the new version features and all the skins are amazing... Can someone please tell me though, how do you get the start up video? do you name it preview.wmv and put it in the unleashx main directory? (In my case, the F: drive) I guess I'll try that as soon as I get to my xbox.... Thanks guys

If you mean preview for games. Just upload preview.wmv to the game folder for that game. If you mean an intro movie. This can be anywhere, you just need to edit this line in the skin.xml to point to it <IntroMovie>C:\intro.wmv</IntroMovie>

Speaking of intro movies, does anyone have any good ones yet?

I cannot get the intro movies to work. I think there may be a video limitation or something. If someone could post specs of videos that they can get to work, id appreciate it!

Thanks for the help with the starting vid guys.... I actually found it out when rereading through the documentation.... somehow when I thought I was reading the new docs, I was actually reading the old docs. Once I found the new docs, it helped a lot. One question though... I tried to take a screen shot in the xbox. Isn't the combo black+left trigger? Where do the screen shots save? I can't find them at all.... Thanks

I don't see ( other than the color ) much resemblence ( at this point ) to the Media Center BUT I love the color theme and that your skin is very clean. Please don't take this as put down - I really like the color and can image having that on my own box. Keep up the good work!

Quick Note regarding my skins and preview pics. I have them hosted on a free homepage center from my provider. I used too much traffic ( 1300 MB while I only get 1000 MB for free ).

I will find another storage space, but untill then my skins ( at least most of them ) are available from www.allxboxskins.com

I hate that, I was so proud of my newest release ( Rogue Op ), I finall got that Round Game Icon Thingy to work and now this

most need to be re-encoded to WMV 7.1 but they are all pretty good.

Dunny, you sure we're gonna be able to read the small font on a normal tv? I could hardly read hydraulix's System-9 v2 on my tv and it's a new tv (Not HDTV by any means, but it's a fairly new tv).

i havent tried unleashx, but i am going to after i figure out how to do some skins for it. i have one in the works that i think looks ok so far, anyone have a place where i can host it so i can post what i have so far? and would anyone like to help me finish it? i have most of the photoshop done, maybe a couple minor changed here and there.. but have no idea on setting it up to work with unleashx. thanks.

@TAZ: Press left trigger and black button together.... Screen shot goes into Z: I asked this question but never got an answer... then as I read through the docs, (it wasn't there either) I happened to notice on the picture where it was showing a screenshot of the guy looking at the screenshot (confused yet?) that it was in the z: drive as image_0000.bmp

make sure your reading the docs from the last release it is in there

your red one is good but i think it would look better if the background .png was a little less tranclucent.

The background.png is as tranclucent as the blue and the green one. On your TV it will look okay.

i think its coming along alright so far. the menu will be in the bigger part and i think maybe the song in the smaller one. this is my first skin so im not sure if its even possible but i think it is. ill find out
