Should I take a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ with 2,06ghz or a P4 with 2,6ghz and Hyper Threading?

I disagree, I would definitely get the AMD. Not only because tests show they are faster but because I am running a 2800 and when I compare my pc to my friends equally good intel pc mine is that much faster. I also recommend the ASUS A7N8X board. It supports SATA, RAID, has room for 3GB of ram....I could go on and on. It is also the best board for overclocking with AMD right now.

Ok, firstly no they are not the same price. Check www.newegg.com Secondly at stock speed the Pentium 4 will be better at office applications high cpu usage tasks. However when it comes to gaming its AMD. The Amd Athlon Barton 2600+ has a nice overclocking potential. If you are going to overclock and price is not a issue i highly suggest one of these rigs.

For intel i highly suggest this
Intel P4 2.4C, yes 2.4 this has excellent overclocking potentail, they can reach 3.4GHZ on air, yes air.

Same heatsink as above, yes its multi platform.
ATLEAST PC3200 ram, intel takes awesome use of the ram due to its high FSB.....
Trust me either of the rigs i suggest would be great overall overclocked. I run a AMD Athlon XP1700+ @ 2.2GHZ, thats like a 2.8GHZ P4. Now imagine that XP2600 running at 2.6GHZ, that would be almost past a 3.2C P4........Just make sure you know what you are doing. Also these machines will run awesomely stock as well.

Well, I'm primarily going to use it for gaming, so I guess it's gonna be an AMD then. The 2600+ barton one is 1,92ghz, and can still be overclocked, it's just 129 euro's, so not really much. And the Asus A7N8X DeLuxe is just 119 euro's. So that aint much. Then just some memory and I'm gonna get a Radeon 9600 pro, my pc can take it for a while

Just if you want to laugh, the specs of my current pc. It isn't comming from a museum.
