I don't keep up in these forums much so please forgive me if this has been asked 1 million times...

Is Lantus planning on adding relax rom streaming to xsnes9x ?

I saw the FAQ concerning SAMBA shares which I would also like to see, but relax is certainly easier and more lightweight.

I have already asked Lantus about implementing Samba shares and he told me that it was not one of his priorities as he has read about people having problems with the other emulators. I would desperately like to see a network share feature of some sort with this emulator. Whether it be using Relax or Samba. It seems a shame that such a great emulator does not have this feature. Lets just hope that Lantus one day decides to throw this feature into one of his future builds.
BigGanja
i really see that your snes roms are eating up LOADS of space on your HDD ?!

now with added disk support why not burn it off as a compilation disk or just keep roms stored on your HDD

I think that feature would be pointless personally, and something like system link option would be much more of an appreciated function here, but again thats up to Lantus, great update m8, i was blown away with 141, u just stepped that up another level lol

Nods head with GLiTcH, yea i am really looking forward to FBA-x 4 too, wink.gif

Well, since I have probably >15GB worth of roms of various systems, yes, it does tend to eat up disk space.

And since I keep them all on a RAID-5 array on my fileserver, I can reach them from any system on my home network.

So why would I want to manage multiple copies of my roms when I can keep them all on a redunant array? There must be a demand for relax/samba sharing otherwise people wouldn't be constantly mentioning it.

So to summarize - yeah I think it's an extremely useful, convenient and lightweight way to manage roms. And I do think Lantus should consider putting it in - virtually every other emulator (whose rom collection approaches large) has this feature.

As the last guy said, the whole point of relax/samba isn't just to save space.
If you have more than one system, it is far easier to manage your files from a single point, with saving space only being a benefit.

Though if saved games could be saved to a relax share also that would make the sharing even more useful.

Playing Starfox with AdvMAME2x filter still produces the music slowdown on the first level. It's most noticeable at the very start when the ships are flying out of the base, and at the half-way point when you fly through the blue checkpoint ring.

@lantus
Just a little thing that would be nice to have:

In Kawa-X you have frameskip when u press right analogue stick to the right.
Would it be possible to add this in the Pad-config options so you have more config possibilitys ?
Likklebaer
Would it not be better to have an Auto Frameskip option as in the PC version? This seems like a perfect solution if the Xbox is going to struggle with some games.
lantus
Likklebaer - then dont use AdvanceMame2x, Simple2x eats less cpu and looks more authentic.

I *hate* software filters for this reason

ScHlAuChi, ill look at adding in a frameskip option in the next WIP
ScHlAuChi
The Turbo button (white) isnt frameskip ?
i was always in the impression that this is frameskip - thats wha its getting so fast;)

What i actually meant is the possibility to assign "right analogue stick right" to "turbo"
in the "Xbox controller 1 Buttion mappings screen" so its just as in Kawa-X smile.gif

lantus
turbo isnt frameskip

turbo bypasses emulation cycles to 'speed' the game up.

frameskip is different - it bypasses rendering to the screen, so a frameskip of one for example means every second frame gets output to the screen.

the music in final fantasy II skips out a lot. especially during fights and the menus. it's brief but often.

I'm having serious problems with this release. My XBOX locks up on the Evox loading screen every time I try to load the emulator. I have all 3 Evox IGRs turned off and am using BIOS 4977 w/ LBA hack. I have also tried it with BIOS 4979.06 and get the same result.

I posted this over on the Lantus-X forums and someone suggested deleting my xSNESx save. I tried that and it still locks up. The emulator obviously starts to load because even after I delete the xSNESx save, the save will be back after the next time I try to load the emulator. Here is what really irks me... 1.41 worked perfectly before, but now if I try to reload 1.41 it still locks up sad.gif I've even tried deleting the entire xSNESX folder and save and then reloading the emulator and it still locks up! It makes no sense. Is there some sort of cache somewhere that I need to delete? Lantus posted on the other forum and said it sounds like a BIOS issue. So has anyone else using the same BIOSs I've tried had the same problem?

Anyway, to summarize: 1.41 worked perfectly; loaded 1.42 and it never loaded; tried it with BIOS 4977 and 4979.06 and both locked; tried deleting my xSNESx save and it still locks; tried going back to 1.41 and now it locks; every other game and emulator on my XBOX still works perfectly

That's not really a solution, Simple2x looks awful. If you're saying it's impossible to run certain games at full speed with certain filters then fair enough, you know a hell of a lot more about it than I do. But if the Xbox can handle brand new Neo Geo games, GBA games, and even some PSX games at full speed with software filters on then it seems likely that, even if some tweaking is required, it could handle games like Starfox.

'Just don't use it' maybe okay for ppl who *hate* filters but some of us like them. You chose to implement filters after all, so I think if there's any chance the problem can be resolved (maybe frameskipping will fix it) it deserves as much attention as any other.
lantus
awful? heh did you ever own a real Snes? did you know that a Snes resolution is 256x224 ? Even without thinking about it, you know that sprites, pixels and textures are going to be blocky on a TV right? - Testing a real snes against Simple2x with point filtering makes it look as authentic as you can get.

and yes im saying Simple2x , AdvanceMame2x, SAI2x, SuperSAI2x are all software filters and take <x> amount of time and cpu to complete, which is an overhead to what i had previously in 1.04 and less. Simple2x being a straight doubling of pixels its more than twice as fast as AdvanceMame2x in my tests.

i chose to implement filters because there was a demand for them im not a fan of filters because being software based, they add overheads and can slowdown emulation as you've seen .

I thank you for those filters Lantus biggrin.gif .

BTW people, if I wanted to play my SNES games exactly like a SNES I would play them on my SNES.

I have a question-

ok I haven't bothered to update xsnes9x in a long time cause it's just about perfect.
but my FAV 2 games, earthworm jim/2 both has sound issues, pretty bad too.

what i'd like to know is does this emu still have sound issues?

cheers! beerchug.gif
jizzlobber
doesn't want to work for me.
deleted old xsnes9x, chucked this into my apps folder.
gets stuck at a black screen when I attempt to boot.

any ideas?
thanks wink.gif

EDIT- just had to delete old save in xbox dash.
EJ is still the same, aaah well smile.gif

The whole point of filters is that they make games look better than on the original system. The SNES itself relies on TVs' scanlines to hide any nasty blockiness. But for those of us who have scanline-free TVs and/or VGA monitors the sharp-but-rounded look of AdvMAME2x can't be bettered.

So if you do decide to add an Auto-Frameskip option, will this fix the speed issues? I presume so since XboyAdvance runs excellently with AdvMAME2x and Auto-Frameskip on.

seems skins doesn't work from the disc(dvd-r)it doesn't find them?
thanks-

Scanlines been added yet?

"better" is purely your opinion, not a fact.

ive always wanted users to get a "close to real SNES" feeling with they use xSnes9x so they can relive the glory days of the best console ever.

XboyAdvance does run well - however i never use it because (and this is no disrespect to Xport) but i want 60fps and no frameskip emulation. Sadly at 700mhz, VBA cant manage this. Something like Tony Hawk 3 on VBA is a mess. I cant handle choppy scrolling just to keep the speed up, so i will just stick to my real GBA SP + Flash Cart

The same applies if i add autoframe skip in xSnes9x. it will address the speed issues, but will make gameplay choppier. Still to be decided if i want to do this.

It should definitely be a configurable option, that way the emulator caters for all tastes. At the end of the day this is your baby, but if you truly have the users at heart, as you seem to, then you need to keep in mind that different ppl will want to enjoy it in different ways. The more an emu can be customized to a users tastes, the more pleasurable it is to use. happy.gif

Besides, frameskip is barely noticeable in most Xbox emus that use it. This would be especially true in XSNES9X which would only need it for a few titles and not to any degree that could be described as choppy.

HELP where do i put the roms and the snes emulator?

that is the only thing i need to know.

the pinned post tells me nothing
can you guyz help?
kvajnto
This is taken from the pinned topic that didn't help you.

"3. Decide where to put your emulator files on the xbox HD. An often used tree-structure is “F:\emulators\”emulator name”, but this is entirely up to you."

Then you MAY need to edit your dahsboards .ini file, but you know how to do that, right? If no, then check out the tutorial section on X-S main page. Also. Read the supplied documentation.
