I got 2 nics in my PC. Do I need to take the DNS numbers off the nic that connects to the internet and put those in the DNS settings for the nic that I use to connect to my XboX? I cant get the newsfeed, dashupdates, skins, or make it download Qwix. I tired putting the DNS numbers off the nic I use to connect to the internet into the settings in Ava's xml file but it still wont connect. Also I used the first 2 of the 3 sets of DNS numbers of the nic, is that correct? Thanks for any help.

Use your cable/dsl modem/router's IP for DNS #1 then use your ISP's DNS server listed in your Router/Modems config. for #2. It doesnt really matter which DNS servers you use as long as they ARE DNS servers. One closest to you is best and that is what your router/modem should be set to by its DHCP.

So do I put those DNS numbers into the nic card that I use for my XboX also or just in the Ava.xml?

2 nics - so your internet connection goes to your computer and then the 2nd nic has a cable connected to the XBOX...

What routing software are you using? Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)? If so then the first DNS server should be 192.168.0.1 - the IP address of the NIC connected to the XBOX.

1. Verify that you can connect from the computer to the XBOX using FTP or QWIX. This makes sure that the network is actively working on the local network first.

2. Your DNS settings don't matter if the Gateway IP address is not correct. Your Gateway IP address must be the IP address of the 2nd NIC in your computer - as I said above, with ICS this is 192.168.0.1.

3. If all that is correct, all you need is the first DNS server - generally this can be the same as the Gateway IP address. As thejt said, I also configure the 2nd DNS server in Avalaunch with one of the DNS Servers my ISP provides.

-answering the follow-up question... your software router software (ICS) will configure the 2nd NIC in your computer, so no need to touch that. Just configure the XML in avalaunch - or set it to use DHCP and all the settings should be automatically provided for you (again assuming ICS).

I dont use a router I use a hub. So the first DNS ip is the IP of the nic that the XboX connects to my PC with and the 2nd DNS is one of the 3 DNS ips my PC nic uses to connect to the web?
thejt
I would use your cable modem or router's IP as the DNS. For the second one use a local college's DNS if you can. This will allow you to still connect when others may be down cuz your IP's dns is down but everything else is fine.

Hmm still not working?
