First of all, be sure that your NIC card in your pc is set to use a static IP address Below i'll give an example setup senario.
Use a crossover cable to go from your xbox to PC.
PC NIC example settings:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Gateway : 192.168.0.2

Xbox
IP: 192.168.0.3
Gateway: 192.168.0.2

Be sure that everything is set to use static IP addresses.

my xbox ip was 192.168.0.100

That's fine, it can be set to anything, but make sure the gateway on your xbox is set to the IP address of your PC NIC.
