Quantum Redshift

/XDemos/
/Locale/French (all folder contents except the "English" folder contents)

Space Saved: 1.31GB

This is the info I originally got for Quantum Redshift.

As I didn't have the game, I didn't know that there were other languages besides French. So, it's possible Lunar Aura meant all folders except English.

This goes to show that you really should give out all(detailed) info.

So, does deleting these other extra languages up the amount of space saved, or is it still the same? Since it's possible 1.3 GB meant XDemos + all other languages, or 1.3 for XDemos + French. I don't have this game, so I'm kinda clueless here.

Quantum Redshift

1.71 GB of deletable files.

/XDemos

/Locale/French
/Locale/German
/Locale/Italian
/Locale/Japanese
/Locale/Spanish

I tested the game for about an hour and it seems to work just fine with default language settings. I assume the game would crash if I tried to run it in a language other than English.

Knights of the Temple

It isn't noted, but I assume this is the PAL version? The NTSC version doesn't have a street date, and it hasn't yet been released in Europe.

You may want to remove this listing for now, since the game hasn't been released. The listed availability suggest piracy, theft, or hacking, since legal retail copies are not yet available.

Notes:

The two XMV files don't save much space, but they get rid of a few pregame movies, which helps get to the main menu faster.

The "DreamCatcher" XMV cannot be deleted. I got a DDE when this file was absent. It's only 2 MB anyway.

Great thread, so far I've saved 6 gigs!

Awesome idea and work Rahszhul! Good job to everyone else!

You have the information on your website, but you don't have the link at the beginning of this post. Just thought I'd let ya know. I didn't think to look at the website since it wasn't listed in the thread and just spend 15 minutes for nothing. sad.gif

PolarBearWY,
Thanks for all that research.

I'll definitely check into the Knights issue. This is one of those fun items I got through an anonymous email that asked for no direct credit. Guess I'll keep my guard up next time that happens.

Also, sorry about having not updated the first post. It's now up to date. And thanks for Arx Fatalis/Quantum Redshift deletes. I'll get those up sometime this weekend.

Calling all original "Amped" owners. Got one of those idiocies where it's listed as "/Resource/Voice/ (anything not english.)" Can I get the actuall folders that are supposed to be deleted?
Dalpura
Thank you ever so much. I've saved a considerable amount of space. Thanks man.

for splinter cell: pandora tomarrow it says you can delete intro.bik and credit.bik. Well i figure credit.bik is the ending credits (maybe) but whats intro.bik, its not like the introduction to the game is it? i just dont want to delete something that adds to the story or what ever
Rahszhul
bborski,
If you grab Rad Video Tools from http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm you can view .bik files from xbox games on your computer. Then you'll know exactly what it is.

For the most part, I will never list items that detract from the story, unless the story portrayed is already decently implied. However, I haven't obtained Pandora Tomorrow yet. Though, when I do, I'll see if the NTSC deletions differ much.
bborski
cool thanks but ive got a little problem. i downloaded it twice and when i try to install it, it says "corrupt instalation detected" what should i do?

Well, I bought Splinter Cell and never played it. That said, I still ended up picking up Splinter Cell P.T. and I have played through a few levels now. I love it! Don't know why I never even took the disc out of the first Splinter Cell case.

Anyway, I'll check the deletions in a few hours.

I just downloaded it and installed it (30 minutes after your post) and the install went fine. The program opens fine. It plays .BIK files fine.

Did you download the proper file for your OS?

re: Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow

Can someone verify that one would want to delete the following?

/Offline/dataxb/Sounds/ENGLISH ???

Doesn't make sense to me. He didn't report being able to delete any of the other "English" folders so why this one? I'd think you would need to keep at least one of the language folders. If we can delete it, it would be another 100+ MB saved.

I'm not deleting that folder.

Oh, and the folders in Localization... you don't even save 1 MB total in all 4 folders. It's probably not even worth the time to hit the delete key.
Angerwound
I wouldn't advise on deleting that folder... Your welcome to rename it and give it a try.. The only way to know for sure is trial and error......
Rahszhul
PolarBearWY,
I seriously don't know about the English in SC:PT. I'll ask GamerBR next time he pops on MSN/ICQ.

All,
Do you use dvd2xbox to back up your games, and then use your favorite ftp of file manager to clear files out? Why? Only I should be doing that now (unless you're being really nice and helpng me out.)

Reason I say that? Out on the two deletion sites I've implemented a way to create .acl files for dvd2xbox to exclude (most) of the deletions from being copied.

So, this will be an awesome help for people who are copying a game to the hard drive.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (NTSC !!!)

Well, though it isn't noted, I'm guessing the current Pandora Tomorrow listing is for the PAL version. I saved far more space and didn't even delete as much, if that makes sense.

Space I saved : 1.36 GB (compared to the 1.14 GB reported in other listing) and I didn't delete the English folder.

*Note that I did not delete the ENGLISH folder as suggested in the PAL deletables. It doesn't make sense to me that either the NTSC or the PAL would allow that deletion. If you can delete, you would save another 100+ MB. Someone care to test?

Movie Replacements

*Note that I used a 500ish byte blank.bik that I got from a link in this thread.

BackgroundPAL.bik
CreditNTSC.bik
CreditPAL.bik
IntroPAL.bik
MultiPAL.bik
UbiLogoPAL.bik

*To answer someone's question above, none of these are critical to the game. I suggest keeping IntroPAL.bik to watch the first time. This is the movie that plays before you even get to the menu.

*I left BackgroundPAL.bik in. It's only about 20 MB and it looks cool. It is the background graphic that plays in the menu screens (I think).

von_braun
Is there a program or codec that can play .xmv movie files?
sparkyz
Great forum!!
Any way after follwoing the tony hawk underground uneeded files, nero 6.0 still says it is too big?(it shows 4.7g or 5,000,000 mb???) are there anymore uneeded files?

Thanks,
Rahszhul
PolarBearWY,
Are you sure the files with PAL in them are supposed to be replaced with blanks in the NTSC version? That just doesn't make sense to me.

I may be "outdoing" myself, but damn, I keep missing some stupid s---. I'll get that fixed.

von_braun,
Get the newest UnleashX dashboard. If you use the file manager, you can browse to a folder, hit (A) while a .xmv is select, and it'll start playing.

sparkyz,
Maybe I missed writing something down, but T.H.U.G. is ~2.6 GB on this side. Make sure you didn't do what one of my friends did... He had the ISO of a game in the same folder where he extracted everything, and started to think the game miraculously doubled in size, like the ISO was compressed.
Vlad the Impaler
thanks for the list.. great work!
Any idea what files can be deleted from Shenmue 2? The game is 4.88 gigs .. need to cut it down.. thanks!

Rahszhul
Vlad,
Check out this post. It deals with a few old Genesis games that are inside Shemue II. I've not really played this game enough to know where/how to access the games, so I can't really say if they are deletable or not.
sparkyz
Thanks for the reply, but I did double check it. After using webdrive to copy the T.H.U.G. files to my pc the game size is about 5.5 gig. I am running the canadian version ntsc.

Also I didn't see the "finding Nemo" game in the list. it comes out at about 5 gig once copied to my pc, not sure what to delete.

Thanks,
Angerwound
Well, if you could look through Finding Nemo and see what the file structure looks like.. Locate all movie files *.bik, *.wmv etc.... and then delete a few and see how the game reacts to the deletions.. I'm sure Rahszhul wouldn't mind another addition to the list.

Update on T.H.UG., I deleted the credits.bik file as well and all works fine now. I did replace it with a blank credits.bik file o bytes.

Pretty sure. I didn't test extensively, but I did remove all the PAL files first and got a DDE. I then replaced them all with a blank.bik and the DDE disappeared.

The "Credit" BIK was the only one with versions in both NTSC and PAL. All the other BIKs were named as PAL. Strange, I know. If I scratch my head trying to figure out why Credit has both versions and all other BIKs are labeled PAL I will go bald.

Edited to add:

Yeah, I bet you can't help but to overlook things. If we all post the additions and corrections for you, sooner or later it will be great. Eh, it's already great. It's a big ass project! Jan/Feb/March didn't help, as there were nearly 60 new games released. I've been going through the release calendar trying to decide what to buy next and it looks like we are in for a dry spell.

Added:
  • Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow, Quantum Redshift, and Arx Fatalis thanks to PolarBearWY.
  • Ultimate Fighting Championship Tapout 2, and State of Emergency thanks to Angerwound!
  • Fixed Brute Force.
  • Up to 75.18 GB from 153 games.

Edit: As of right now, the ACL's on the site are only for people who are copying the game from the disc. I've been working on and am near ready to implement a version of the ACL's that can both exclude files from being copied, and delete files from games already copied.

Yay! for progress!

Updated: Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
- Found extra non-english files in the /System/ folder. Only ~180kb, but I like getting rid of everything not needed.
- Also found /media/ folder (~22MB), which contains the normal XBL files found in that folder.

Added: Dead Man's Hand
- Buncha the normal XBL stuff.
- PS2 and GameCube stuff.
- Pregame logos

Added: Tenchu: Return From Darkness
- 1 whole gigantic(not) XBL file
- Several non-english files.
- Pregame logos

Added: Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
- Non-english items.

Fixed: Brute Force
- Man, I made some oddball-idiot mistakes there.

Deathrow
- Added a whopping ~320 kb in non-english files.

Added: Loons: The Fight for Fame
- Tons of non-english stuff.
- Few pregame logos.

Saved 79.88 GB from 163 games.
- SO close to the 80 GB milestone.

Updated the acl script on the site, so you can use the same acl for copying from the DVD, or applying to an already copied game from long ago.

in the Prince of Persia deletions, it shows some movie replacements...

the .INT files are what format, Bink? I see a Bink.int there so I'm gonna assume they're Binks.

well anyways, the reason I was asking for the blank.bik & blank.xmv was to get the extra little bit out of POP smile.gif

I have a blank.bik, but I'm still looking for that blank.xmv though... anyone know where such a thing can be found?
Rahszhul
Oh good god. More and more faults keep popping up. I swear to god, I'm going to send you the blank.xmv right now.

And, yes, a previous post somewhere in this massive thread claims POP's .INT files as .bik's. I have confirmed this on my side as well. Rename the file to have a .bik extension and it plays on your computer.

Excellent job with the dvd and hard drive ACL files, but... how the hell do you use them?

I've made all the ACL files I need, and I know they are for dvd2xbox, but I can't figure out how to use them. I've probably overlooked something in this thread that says how to use them, but maybe a little section on the websites to say which buttons to push in which order would be helpful?

Oh thanks for that blank.xmv btw, much appreciated!
toyato89
I have done the undoable... I have found deletions for a game listed under "Games w/ No Deletions"

The game in question is 007: Nightfire. The best part is, it just skips the movies entirely. I watched the vid's in UnleashX and found the culprits! I got the game ID from xbox save manager file. I'm assuming the Game ID is the 8 char hex code named folder in E that it saves stuff to? If I'm wrong, please correct me.

CODE

007: Nightfire
GameID: 45410026

/eurocom/30_fps/

07370048.xmv
07380048.xmv
073a0048.xmv
073b0048.xmv
073f0048.xmv
07390048.xmv

Almost forgot... total saved = 144mb! woohoo!

All pregame garbage. There are 2 other ...48.xmv files, but if you delete those, the background (either Bond holding the gun, or the naked lady silhouettes) in the menus disappears. Now, you COULD delete them, but you'd have boring menus with black backgrounds only, and that's no fun. Doing so would still save you an additional whopping 9.5mb. There's the MGM lion & the EA logo, some "making-of" video that I can't find out how to access directly (must be an easter egg in the game or something) and some "oops I waited too long" videos. Doesn't affect the game in any way tho, it just skips over them biggrin.gif

Have fun!
Rahszhul
toyato89,
Awesome job on kicking my brain out of the running for a smart-guy-at-all award. When I get home, I'll add that stuff to the site. Thanks!

Also, to use the ACL files on games already copied, just place the ACL files into your "/dvd2xbox/acl/" folder. Then boot up dvd2xbox, pop into the file browser, find your way to a game's folder you have an ACL for. Highlight the folder (do not enter the game's folder, just highlight it) and hit "L". Then select "Process ACL" or something similar.

If you want to use the ACL on a game you have yet to copy, just place the ACL file into your "/dvd2xbox/acl/" folder, and copy the game using dvd2xbox.

Wheeeheeheee.... I'm going to go wheel a friend around now for the hell of it. Be back sometime tonight to add that stuff.

hey guys, i really love this thread

im affraid i dont have the game id

but i found a lot more deletables from midtown madness 3

in the language folders i found a lot more languages than just german
saves quite a few mb as i only left dutch

also you can replace all the movies with 1sec files, i didnt test simply deleting them

but some of the movies are needed for the storyline (although they are completely unnesicary for the game)

you can delete the cdx folder and the cdx.xbe

i was unable to downsample the movies with radtools though, as i did decide to keep the storyline movies, and only removed the intro's and such.

lets see

ill have to update with the exact files, but im not home right now, i dont know the exact name of all the unneeded bik's
i also remeber there being some demo movies in the movies folder?
this will save a lot more, dont know exactly how much though

PS anyone know wher ei can get the latest radtools, the exe on the website is bad
