pelago,
That is definitely an awesome idea, and something I'd like to implement in the future.
The only thing then, is I'd dump the ACLPack off the site, because I'm not going to even try and keep track of (13*3+X) versions because of languages, regions, and whatever other variations exist.
But I definitely agree that would make things more usable for whoever is out there wanting to use these deletions.

since english language files are kept in the same place as other languages a alt-language version of the website should suffice, they could delete the demos, Live, and unneded stuff, then look at the alt language folders and delete only the language that doesnt apply to them

Rahszhul, glad you like it. I mentioned it a few months ago but I think noone noticed it!
If you are going to implement preferences and customized deletions, you might want to look into things like separating logo movies (publisher, developer, dolby, renderware etc.) from game-specific intro movies.
Personally I like to the delete the logos in order to make the game boot quicker, because they are the same logos I've seen loads of times before and don't add anything to the experience. But I don't mind the game-specific intro movies, as they can often set the scene for the game and get me in the mood. At the moment all these things are lumped together as 'unneeded stuff', so I'm suggesting being more detailed with the categories.
Similarly, people might have individual preferences as whether to delete attract movies yes/no, demos yes/no, and bonus stuff yes/no (like unlockable extras in Lord of the Rings and Buffy Chaos Bleeds, and Prince of Persia retro games, and Making Of videos etc.)
The only thing I can think of that should not be optional is the deletion of Xbox Live stuff, as no user should ever want those files on a modded Xbox!
Anyone get lucky with NFL 2K5? We're still searching for the answer!

| yeah take off the update and dashupdate files, along with 2 9 e and f and you should be able to burn it (down to 4.24 gigs) and it will play fine sans the extra videos, cut scenes, first person, and more then likely some crib features (that stupid celeb challenges and whatnot)...i havent tried it since i really dont need another copy right now, if anyone else feels the need go right ahead...if i can find a way to cut just the vids and keep the cool features ill mention it, but dont hold your breath |
For ESPN NFL 2K5
Since I haven't heard of anyone trying this and actually saying that it worked here it is.
I tried this method and it worked like a charm. Played a full game and did some practice plays and no problems. Cheerleaders looked a little funny because I think thats something that was removed but who cares.
Thanks k6kicker for the work!!

i can simply delete 'unneeded stuff' can't i? i don't need to relink any videos do i?
pelago
Aug 13 2004, 01:31 PM
Anything in the 'unneeded stuff' section should just be deletable. If you need to replace movies with smaller/blank ones of the same name, they will be listed in the 'movie replacements' section.

Hi people, thanks to this group I have had no problem backing up all my games to my Xbox (All 10 of them?). Now the problem, I have just purchased XBMM for my 7 year old daughter and she loves it, the problem is I don't think the disk is going to last very long.
My Xbox is moded with Xenium Ice and I am using DVD2Xbox to put stuff on the 120gig HDD. I can't get XBMM to play just from the hard drive. Have tried the hex fixes posted earlier with no joy and can't find the riot-xmixF program anywhere. Would it make any difference that my disk is PAL and not NTSC, would that mean that the hex fixes would be different? Forgive me if that is a stupid question but today is the first time I have ever used Hex editing and know nothing about it.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

what is the max size game that fits onto a cd-rw?
pelago
Aug 18 2004, 11:27 AM
Depends on the size of the CD-RW disc - you can get 700MB and 650MB. Most are 700MB these days.
total_ass
Aug 18 2004, 11:34 AM
i don't recommend using cd-rw, the xbox doesn't access the data on them as fast as they would dvds or on the hard drive, so you generally get slow loading times and stuttery music etc.

Driv3r Title ID = 49470038
Deletions:
XB Live! - dashupdate.xbe - update.xbe Total saved: 57mb |
Not sure if Driv3r's been covered before but here it is for the record. There's a 'UIXMedia' folder in the game, not enough time to test right now. Someone please check out if that's necessary. It'd be maybe 5-6mb saved, nothing big at all, but I guess if someone's got 5 seconds (I don't!), test nonetheless.
Thanks, happy deletions!

My copy of Run like hell doesn't seem to match the ACL. it says
| QUOTE |
Xbox Live /dashupdate.xbe /downloader.xbe /update.xbe Demos /cdx.xbe /cdxmedia/ /demo/fmv/BreakBenji.bik /media/ |
my copy has BreakBenji.bik in the media\fmv folder
Also the entire game is located in the Media folder, my /media folder looks like this
/fmv
/lvl
/sound
/textures
ArialUni.Ttf
dlcustom.xpr
PartROM.bin
Sound.xsb
squad.txt
strings.res
system
tweaker.txt
Wave.xwb
running the acl would delete the entire game!
anyone else have this problem?

Just a thought
Is there anyway to make a universal ACL that will delete
Xbox Live
/dashupdate.xbe
/downloader.xbe
/update.xbe
whenever it is found on any disc?
It would just make thing a little quicker...lil bit
Then again you could just run a search for those files via your ftp client and delete them all.

Is an ACL file needed with every modified game?
IE -- if you FTP an entire disc from your XBOX to your PC, then delete 'unecessary' files "xzy" and burn the remainder onto a DVD -- does a corresponding ACL then need to be copied over to the XBOX as well for the game to work?
Thankx!
ken52787
Aug 24 2004, 06:14 PM
No, as I understand it, the ACL is used in dvd2xbox while the game is copying. It tells the program what is not needed and then deletes it. The copied files should then work by itself.
