i have it mirrored here: http://xbehome.com/xbox/

you can also download the site here http://xbehome.com/xbox/xbox_file_deletions.rar to mirror it elsewhere or even view it locally on your PC

ALL LINKS BELOW ARE MOST LIKELY DEAD
The list is maintained for achival purposes only

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirrors with their own database; Now, it's more likely that all mirrors won't all go down at the same time!
http://rahszhul.xhce.com/
http://www.maverex.net/xbox/
http://www.chefelf.com/~rahszhul/

Mirrors sharing the free public database; If you see Connection Error, then it's likely all mirrors below are "down".
http://deadeye.50free.org/Xbox/
http://rahszhul.jonmega.com/

Alternately, mohuhau set up a non-database driven version of the site which should work when the others don't. http://mohuhau.serveirc.com:8080/xfr/

And another "mirror", updated by forum user balugabutt
http://www.balugabutt.com
Rahszhul
Connection Error

Now only two of the mirrors are using the public database, so chances of all mirrors being down at the same time are reduced greatly.

The only problem this brings about, is it's going to be harder for me to keep thing up to date, as I'll have to upload the new data to (as of right now, 4) different places.

Games Taking Up Too Much Space? Buy the retail version and stop being a pirating whore.

I think its fucked how people have to jump on someone for being a pirate. When they dont even know WTF they are talking about! The guy said they were retail and maybe he wants to save some space on his hdd after he puts his retail games on it, so he deleted some movies. Or maybe he wants to save some money and backup his retail game to cd-r and not dvd-r so he deleted some movies? Ever think of that, nezff

Let me know if you need any help on replacing the movies with the blanks, I can help I do it all the time. wink.gif
Rahszhul
First off, if you know of any posts, or have this info yourself, on any game I haven't listed yet, please feel free to share. Anyways, onto the crap!

I was hoping to rip through four or five games, at least, this weekend but I just remembered this horrible problem I have.

About FOUR months ago, I received a hernia blink.gif. Well, my employer, good ol' Uncle Sam is finally getting around to getting my surgery taken care of. What does that mean for me? On the 22nd... three damned days before christmas... they signed me up for the surgery! Because of the fun-ness of this procedure, the day before I MUST abstain from consuming anything... including water?!

So Sunday, I'm going to be so freaking out of it, I wouldn't want to be working on any computer related crap for fear of ruining everything. And Monday... yeah... I'm gonna sleep the day away if I'm not in any kind of severe pain.

But on the bright side, I'll be getting two weeks off from work, so maybe I can get this completed up to the games I've had sift through my hands in the past to present. Probably not, but I can hope.

At any rate, wish me luck... or pray for my death... whatever makes you happy! jester.gif

Ok, so now that I've laid out this elaborate excuse for not updating for what may actually be a week... laugh.gif

I like relinking video's. If it gives me a DDE when i delete a file. I found a small file of the same file extension from the same game or another. And rename it and put it in the folder. It has worked out so far.

My unreal championship shows the UBI Soft logo two times b4 it enters the menu screen wink.gif
RalX
I agree, relinking video files is a great way to downsize games if you are tight for space. If you relink the right files, you won't miss a beat.

RalX
Rahszhul
Relinking, as you guys call it will be my second, less prefered method. I had thought relinking was like the fix for Enter the Matrix and it's long file names. Basically, pointing the .xbe to a different file which is outside the scope of my "easy" game size reduction. However, replacing movies that aren't needed for the game itself with blank movie files will be my secondary target for any games, as in my second post above.

Also, if you guys recall what files you've 'relinked' feel free to share, as I feel it'd be a decent addition to the collection above.

I've got to thank --Xtreme-- for tossing me some blank movies that I'll be able to test with, but I have a slight problem with a few of them. I'd rather have a 'blank' movie, as in 1 sec(or less), no sound, black background. I've got a -true- blank .bik movie, and should be able to make a blank .wmv, however finding/making true blanks of the others might be a fun process.

On another note, luke.luke1 sent me a PM earlier learning me a bit better about PAL50/60 and NTSC vid's and just what the hell is going on with my confusion on a few games above. I'll be updating this later when I get home, as this class won't allow me enough time other than to type this post.

Much thanks, luke.luke1
Lineman
Hey Rahszhul, good luck with the surgery... had the same done a year ago. The first day after sucked, but after that was like a paid holiday. The worst part was when they sent me home 4 hours after my surgery and my legs were still half frozen. 2 weeks off work?? My doc gave me 5 weeks. If you do a lot of physical work, I'd try to get more time off to mend. They say if you don't let them mend properly they will re-tear on you easily.
p.s. If you have to shave it's gonna itch like a son of a bitch! huh.gif
Rahszhul
And now for an all amazing post where I do all of the following:
  • Bump this thread (It's pinned, I know!! It's a damned joke. LAUGH!)
  • Let various viewers knows what exactly has changed.
Anyways, updates to the guide (Since bumping already occured by the time you read this.)!
Dec 18th, 2003
  • Updated Brute Force and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger with luke.luke1's findings on PAL50/PAL60/NTSC.
  • Fixed Crimson Skies notes, as it appears I stopped mid sentence with an incomplete idea.
  • Added games Broken Sword - The Sleeping Dragon and Blowout upping the space saved to 16.38 GB.
  • Moved deletion log files on my HDD to a structure which I can use XML/ASP to build them. This will make tracking things easier for me. You, the user, will just have to enjoy the idea I spend less time building this list.
Caracarn
Good job! beerchug.gif

I'd love some info on deletions for Project Gotham Racing 2, SSX3, Tony Hawk Underground, Prince of Persia 2, Top Spin

Thanks
Rahszhul
Caracarn, most of those games are on the way. I've even been sent a PM detailing what can be deleted from PGR2, but as I don't have an actuall copy myself, I'd like to know the retail size. Not really needed, but I'm wierd in they way I like to keep stats on some things.

I'll just need to format the post, and I'll plaster it up there!
So consider this an update:
  • Project Gotham Racing 2 added.
styxx_78
bump! HAHA

Anyways, awesome post....i use this guide extensivly and and slowly going trhough mine to recoup the valuable space.

Keep it up! (to date)

Caracarn
Another request rolleyes.gif

Need For Speed Underground
Rahszhul
Updates:
  • Added Corvette, Gladiator - Sword of Vengence, IHRA Drag Racing and Unreal Championship to game file deletions list, upping the total deletions to 17.90 GB.
  • Added first game to movie replacements list, Aliens vs Predator: Extinction (This is that second post.(On the first page for those of you wierd people viewing at a few posts per page))

Caracarn, and future people...
I'm not going to be able to do all requests sad.gif . I do not own every game out there. However, if others feel safe rooting through other games I don't have up yet, feel free to let me in on any info you find.

Anyways, I plan on getting one or more games up... At least before tommorow when I go comatose from not eating. jester.gif
Virtucon
This is great stuff Rahszhul! Thanx, i was wondering if ther is a compleate list of how big each game is before anything is cut out? I've been searching but haven't been able to find anything. Anyone know of one? thnxs

laugh.gif Damn. I knew I'd forget something massively stupid.

Anyways, here are a few things.
X-Gamer program. Somewhat out of date.

XBox Game Size webpage that is fairly old.
XBox Game Size program available here. Appears to be the same age(read: out of date) as the above link.

Post found in the Evox forums?? Doesn't detail everything, but it's a decent.

This post has gime sizes for PGR2, THUG, NSFU, The GTAs, and True Crime

and Amped 2
Rahszhul
Updates:
  • Finishing up my XML/XSLT based post builder. "It looks pretty!" *barf*
  • Fixed notes for "ATV Quad Power Racing 2" as it just didn't make sense.
  • Added estimated space saved of 1772 MB on PGR2 based on rip size from jumbee159. This ups total space saved to 19.9 GB
That's it for what I'm guessing will be four days or more. Hope you guys enjoy xmas, and all else there is.

What exactly does "Deleted .xbe's are due to backup/XBL NON-interactivity" mean?
Virtucon
Rahszhul,
Thank for the size list, keep up the great work
Thanx angain

No positive but i think its the files you use to log onto XBLive. there is no need for them since you can use live with a copied game. deleting them saves a few megs so I would suggest doing it because its so simple to do.
Default_002
Can't u play backups on xlink, if so, are those files nessecary to use this function?
xilicio
FIFA 2004 pretty please wink.gif

Need for Speed: Underground, Kung Fu Chaos, and all ESPN Sports games. Thanks alot. Keep up the good work. This is the best post on xbox-scene forums by far...

ok site isnt updated but uploaded XBOX Game Size Editor v1.7

this would be some great coding material, for backup tool
"remove those extra files" option

the program now has 251 NTSC and 205 PAL games wink.gif
Rahszhul
Wow... I go get surgery, and everybody pops up with posts... holy crap. Well, at least I'm able to read and type and all those nifty modern human thingies. Walking and getting up though... that can be fun!

Ok, answers...
Default_002,
The line "Deleted .xbe's are due to backup/XBL NON-interactivity." derives from the idea that you cannot play on XBLive! with a modded bios, and you need a bios like that to play your backups. Therefore, the .xbe's that update your dashboard, update the game itself, or connect to the XBLive! service aren't really needed to have a fully working backup.

I haven't played on XLink or XBConnect with any of these, but I will test in a few minutes if I can setup a LAN game with these ripped games. Thanks for the idea to test. I'll report back in say... 20-40 minutes.

xilicio, Default_002,
Again, I'm more than likely not going to be able to do requests. I do not have every game out there. Including stuff like most sports games, and racing games. Those just aren't my type. But I am definitely looking for help with games I don't have.

XBOX War3z,
Holy crap. Thanks. For HCE. For the update. *bow*

I guess it's good I converted from typing -everything- in, to XML based... I guess that could help considering several XBox apps have XML parsing in them.

But I'd probably need to make a few fixes. I'm sure the ***'s aren't going to be fun to code around.
chilin_dude
Yes you can still use them on xlink, those files aren't used by xlink biggrin.gif
Also Rahszhul i will try to assist with this list if i can... i will try removing stuff out of Fifa 2004 per request.
Rahszhul
chilin_dude,
Thanks in advance for any help.

And also, what chilin_dude said about X-Link seems correct in my mind. I just tested a death match in Brute Force over the LAN, and everything went well. Seeing as X-Link, XBConnect, and that Game Spy thing make the internet look like a LAN to the XBox, everything should go fine.
GamerBR
the best topic created in xbox-scene biggrin.gif saved 4gb deleting only dashupdate.xbe of my games, demos and multilanguage files(i didn't deleted any video of the games) beerchug.gif
GamerBR
just an idea,u could separate in categories for each game what files i'm deleting ex
Crimsons Skies
Movies Files
(write the files)
Playable Demo
(write the files)
Video Demos
(write the files)
Xbox Live Files
(write the files)
Multilanguage File
(write the files)

it would become much more simple, because i don't want to delete ANY movie or video of the game, only the playable and video demos, xbl files and multilanguages files and some of the files that u are say i can delete i don't know for what this file is smile.gif

Here’s a couple for Fatal Frame and Enclave

This could save you some space on your e: drive if you've ever played Fatal Frame. Each gamesave for this one takes up about 41 MB. If you used all the game save slots you could have up to 8 of these chunky bastards.
They’re in UDATA/54430004

Enclave has a French and German folder. They are sbz1_Fra and sbz1_Ger. Deleting them will free up 783 MB. When I tested the game after deleting these folders, I couldn’t find any options to change the language. Out of curiosity I put the folders back to see if a language setting would magically appear but none did. I don’t know if this is unusual or not since I’ve never tried changing the language settings before.
Anyway I played a couple of the *.bik movies in these folders and they are definitely French and German.
GamerBR
Tiger Woods 2004 and 2003 have some extra videos, someone can try to delete then?i search but didn't find any label that match with these videos
Rahszhul
It's possible that the games try to pull language settings from the XBox via what it was set by the original MS Dash itself.

I've noticed before a setting in the MS Dash where you could tell it to turn off after 6 hours of inactivity. This setting still overrode anything via a modded bios or different dash. Which was kinda bad when I tried transferring games from my old 120's up to my 300 Gig beasts. That, and when using it as the music player, it was kinda yuck to "jiggle the handle" every once in a while.

Anyways, back on topic. Might want to try again after going through the MS Dash and changing the language to Françias or Deutsch. Not needed, but I'll add Enclave after I get a bit more info. Like are those folders in the root folder of the game, or under another folder?
Default_002
I have all the ESPN Sports games (such as ESPN Football, ESPN Basketball, etc.) and Need for Speed: Underground. How would i go about finding which files are deletable? Because i would love to help out in anyway possible.
Rahszhul
Default_002,

First thing I did, was to play the game. I took notes of what pre-game company logos popped up, such as the Microsft Game Studios logo, or any of the companies that worked on the game.

Look over the menus for things like demos, previews or whatever. If so, write down the name of the demo or movie the game is about. Just incase they didn't use the normal demo formats.

I also tried letting the game sit at the main menu to see if a in-game demo movie would play.

The next step is to FTP into your XBox, and go to where you stored the game at. F:/Games/(GameName)/

After you FTP in, see if there are "dashupdate.xbe", "downloader.xbe", or "update.xbe". These can be deleted immediatly. (Just be sure to write down that you deleted them.)

Also, look for folders such as "cdxmedia", "XDemos" or "Demos", along with the files "cdx.xbe" or "xdemos.xbe". These are the common game demo menus. Back these up onto your computer, delete them from the XBox, and try running the game. Select the demos option, and write down what happened. Reboot the game, and try again, see if the same thing happens.

Then look for files that may represent the pre game logos that popped up. In the instance of "MS Game Studios", look for a file named something like "MGS.bik", or words in file names like "logo" or "intro". Movies can have these file extensions. ".bik", ".pss", ".wmv", ".xmv" (again, backup, delete, test.)

Looking for alternate language files can be a bastard. Look for folders or files that contain these letter combos.
- English can be "en", "eng", "english", and has also been seen as "int"
- German can be "de", "deutsch", "dutch", "ge, "ger" or "german"
- Italian can be "it", "ita" italian"
- French can be "fr", "fra", "fre", "french"
- Japanese can be "j", "ja", "jap", "japanese"
- Chinese can be "ch", "chi", "chinese"
- Spanish can be "es", "esp", "sp", "spa", "spanish"
- Polish can be "pol", "polish"
I've also seen Korean and Portugese as in the PGR2 deletions from jumbee159. (Backup, delete, test.)
Also from NSF:U, the languages Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Finnish, and Norwegian have popped up.

For movies that are duplicated for a different region... This can be just as fun. Sometimes, NTSC movies are given no designation what so ever, while the PAL movies have "-PAL" or just a "P" in the file name. Sometimes they're in their own folder such as "/PAL-MOVIES/". (Backup, delete, test.)

If there was a movie that played when you sat at the main menu for a few minutes, then you may want to look for any of the following keywords. "Attract", "Intro_Montage". (Backup, delete, test.)

Also, compare it with other games I've already listed. There aren't too many ways the game makers would organize everything. You just need to train yourself on what to look for.

I hope this helps. I know I'm not able to put too much sense into it right now, as I just took some of those fun pills the hospital gave me.
Rahszhul
GamerBR,

Sorry for ignoring you this long.

I could try to split the deletions into catagories like that, but it would take me a few days to make that conversion. The main problem I'd have, is that I don't have a large portion of these games anymore, physical disc or backup-wise. Though I could try and force myself to remember, I couldn't garuntee 100% idiocy... er.. accuracy.

Also, just to clarify, are you saying you want those evil muhaha.gif company logo movies at the start of your game too? laugh.gif I do everything I can to leave any videos that move the story along, if that's what you are talking about.

Finally, after a post growth count today of ~33%, a post from me about UPDATES!!

Who'd've guessed that?

Anyways,
  • Thanks to GamerBR for his help with Rainbow Six 3 and updates to Amped 2
  • Thanks to skeen for his info on Enclave
These updates bring us to a grand total of 21.62 Gigabytes saved.
cmmig
Great Thread. Thanks Rahszhul

A small Request

Medal of honor: rising sun
I checked some myself but I didn't see anything obvius(sp?) (i.e. folders named "English" or "German")

EDIT: spelling
Rahszhul
  • Added Moto GP 2 and Voodoo Vince, with much thanks to GamerBR again.
  • Added Top Spin. And to note, I never want to play a several GB version of PONG ever again!
  • Up to 22.37 Gigabytes now.
And now I sleep.
Rahszhul
Happy Prune Yogurt Day!!
  • Thanks to GamerBR for the Need for Speed: Underground deletions.
  • Added Sega GT 2002/Jet Set Radio Future bundle disc. After the deletions, you can split the games apart with this article.
  • Added Kung Fu Chaos.
  • Now up to 25.05 Gigabytes recovered.
I'm sure there were more of you out there then than the few who requested NFS:U to be rooted through. Well, it's been done, but it's not much. Kung Fu Chaos on the other hand had quite a bit of space to give back.
Ta-mater
For Harry Potter: Quiditch World Cup... you can delete the entrie /movies/ directory. It seems to include multiple copies of the EA Games and WB intro logo animations and are unnecessary.
Default_002
Why can't i delete the entire /videos/ folder in "Kung Fu Chaos? (I get a dirty disc error) If not, is there any other way to remove company logos and other pre-game garage? Thanks
Rahszhul
Ta-mater,

Thanks for the info on Harry Potter: Quiditch World Cup. Any idea on how much space that free's up?

Default_002,

Kung Fu Chaos will give a DDE for any file it tries to access. If your xbox is set to North America/English or whatever it exactly looks for, it will try to play the file with "_en" before the file extension.

I may see later if these movies are replacable with smaller movies, to be added to my second post.
Default_002
Thanks, that is what i thought. Since you aren't into sports games very much Rahszhul, does anyone else want to help me with trimming down ESPN Football (it is next on my list) Especially this game because it's a whopping 4.2 gig and i hope there is some files that need to be taken out. Thanks

Once i figure out this game i'm sure ESPN Basketball, ESPN Hockey, etc. will be a snap!
Rahszhul
I can still help you through it, It's just that I personally don't have a copy of the game. But since you do, I can work with you to try and delete some things.

If you want to do this, go ahead and contact me by any of these evil programs listed below, like AIM, ICQ, or MSN.

Edit: FIXED! ... for now.
