Have you tried burning Evolutionx to a cdrw and boot with that?? I think that should work, but hey... I never tried...

Good Luck

Burn EvoX's dashboard and a correct menu.ini file to a cd-rw, and you should be okay. I fucked up my menu.ini file once and every time the xbox turned on, it would reboot constantly. However, when i burned EvoX and a correct menu.ini file to a cd, the box booted up from the cd with no problems at all, allowing me to once again connect through ftp and send the correct files over. I think this will work for you too...give it a try! Good Luck

I'd rather be you than me right now.

A failed BIOS flash killed XBOX. I guess I'm buying my friend a new XBOX.

I flashed my XBOX and forgot to cut the wires first. I have done 2 XBOXs successfully. I'm usually not this stupid. I realized what I had done because the progress bar hung about a 6th of the way through. I rebooted the XBOX to try again and got the dreaded red / green flashing eject light. I then figured that maybe the beta Enigmah in this XBOX was not write protected and that I had screwed it up. I then proceeded to install another Enigmah chip and now I still get the red / green flashing light. I even tried taking the mod out altogether and still the same problem.

How could this happen? I always thought than a Mod Chip took the old bios over completely. What could flashing have damaged besides the BIOS.

I am sure it has nothing to do with soldering points because it booted just fine before the flash and then without touching anything inside the XBOX it would no longer boot.
Please help.

Thank you.

okay...john, i really feel sorry for you...that suk's....be'n a freind and all you certainly have some explain'n to do...now to my problem...i can't even boot shit...let alone my evo-X cd-rw...I get the intro boot (xbox logo in green) then, when m$ text appears below....it flickers like it wants to boot...but goes to the "you have f#cked up your x-box and requires service screen" green/red lights plague my console...keeps try'n to reset....I know what has to be done (re-name my "msxboxdash.xbe back to xboxdash.xbe" but how...? now i've excepted the fact that i'm f#cked...i've allready started look'n for a used xbox....there is no-way of fixing this(cunt)...pc wont read the h/drive...can't connect through ftp anymore....tried do'n the "burn the menu.ini/default.xbe"does'nt work...the problem is it does'nt read the dash board....cuz it is'nt there.(well it iz but it's called msxboxdash.xbe) I did however copy the entire c:/ dir...so if anybody needs it i'll trade for d:/ and e:/ NTSC sad.gif

Hah, can we say 15 reasons to rename the file on the xbox? (As in not transferring at all other than to back it up!)

First, you should be able to work around your problem. THere's like several I can think of off the top of my head.

First, I am betting that the cd would work if you tried putting it in then shutting down and then starting after a few seconds.

Second what you're assuming is the reason for the box not working can't be the case. The XBOX is perfectly capable of booting without a valid dashboard file.

Reason I know this:

1) To do a hard drive swap one must start the xbox with a hard drive which does NOT contain any dashboard.

I have done this, you literally boot the xbox using the dvd with a blank hard drive. The data is then copied, so long story short the problem is not the missing dashboard.

Here is what to do. Mess around with booting the disk, check to make sure the chip is connected correctly as since you have no dashboard it's not going to pass certification which will cause the error you mention. Last resort just put a zeroed, partitioned blank disk in and recopy.

Seriously, unless something else happened this really shouldn't be a problem. (oh, and if you still can't figure it out you can always just send my your 'f*cked" xbox, as I would be more than happy to uhm... dispose of it.

if you fuck up your xbox, go buy a new one and swap it. the old buy swap return. All new again. heheheh

"let alone my evo-X cd-rw"

If you are not using a PC DVD drive in your XBOX than the cd-rw may be the problem. Have you gotten your XBOX to consistantly boot that exact evo-X cd-rw before?

I did the same thing. Screwed up My HDD, and got the lovely green text of death screen. BUT!!! Heres how i got it back together...

Booted a DVD-RW with evox set the IP addy up, FXPd into the drive, renamed my file, corrected the menu.ini and boom baby.. Worked like a champ.

I renamed the ms dashboard to dash-ms.xbe
put the line in the .ini file under section root...
(and dont forget the tdoxxx commands above it.)

Section "Root"
{

Item "MS Dashboard","c:\dash-ms.xbe"
Item "Reboot",@5

Section "System Utils"
{
Item "Network",@6
Item "Harddisk",@7
Item "Flash BIOS",@1

}
}

FXPd evox into the hdd and renamed to xboxdash.xbe

now when it boots i go to evox, and if i want to go to ms dash its right there, and i can put a disc in and reboot and play originals (of course biggrin.gif )

so sweet and short, if you bork your HDD, you can always recover it via RAW commands from FXP and a burned DVD-RW or CD-RW (as long as it boots). Think about it... its almost the same process as puttin in a new one with the exception u need the evobios burned in.

Yeah Helltick, burn a copy of EvoX to a cd-rw (or whatever works for you) along with the menu.ini file that should have come in the rar file you downloaded (if you don't have the menu.ini file try emailing me). By proper menu.ini i mean any menu.ini file without any errors (not missing any quotation marks, not having any dead links, etc). That worked fine for me...xbox booted the cd-rw fine with the menu.ini (but NOT without!), and allowed me to ftp to the xbox. You may need a utility to create an iso file that contains the menu.ini file with it (again, i may be able to provide you with something if you don't have it). But as far as I know, the xbox should boot a disc containing EvoX and their menu.ini file, then allowing you to ftp to it and resume and transfers, or fix the xboxdash.xbe file and any others. Keep trying...although the xbox may seem screwed up, i've found that it's damn near impossible to completely kill one
