So i am totally a cheap guy, but after reading this website I had to have a xbox to mod. So I did what every other cheap guy does. I wiggled my way into talking Walmart into selling me a Xbox Bundle (with tetris and Star Wars) for $129. I dont know about you guys but everyplace up here sells them for $179. So here's how I did it. I was walking through the mall one day. You know those we buy games or console places. Well they had a big sign saying Xbox's $129. Underneath the sign it explained the xbox challenge. Trade in a older console with 7 games and get a Xbox bundle for $129. SO i took a picture of it with my camera phone, got the store business card and proceded to call my local Walmart. I xplained to the curtosy desk that I had this picture and a business card for the company. She told me to come right in and they would price match it. Unfortuantely when I got to the store, the teeny bopper behind the counter said she would ahve to call a CSM (customer service manager) to overide the price. Well this guy was a real dummy. He said he would return to the service counter and call. So i continued shopping. Knowing my brilliant scheme had go arise. But for giggles I returned 15 minutes later to check on the status of the phone call. The CSM told me he called the store in the mall to check it out and turns out that XBOX for $129 doesnt come with games. WEll right off the bat I knew he was lying about calling. Otherwise he would have explained the whole trading in game consoles situation. So he couldnt price match it. So a little frustrated, I walked to my car. Called the mall store from my cell and spoke with the guy and he said nobody from walmart called. So i was set. I then proceded to call teh walmart, of which i was in the parking lot of. Spoke with the Assistant store manager, and complained they were to lazy to even call and I was going to call the district manager up. She kissed my butt told me to return to the store and would honor the $129 price. So i went back in got my Xbox bundle for $129 and walked out. No hold on boys it doesnt end there. So there are tons of places that pricematch other competitors. So i did the natural thing.... went to the closest store that did showed them my Walmart recipet for a $129 xbox with the SCEW number on it and they in turn sold me another $129 Xbox bundle. You sure gotta love working the system!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jsut so yall know this was all done last week and still have both reciepts to Prove my claim. so enjoy the story...

Would be happy to help anyone out in the Washington state area by letting them borrow the receipt to take it to Toys R Us and get the same deal....

wink.gif Nice excellent job, who cares about walmart seriously you do realize the top 3 i think richest people are the Walmart family just to let you know

Wow yeah, that's really something to brag about their genius. Trying to deceive a buisness by getting a price match on something where one place you have to give them something of trade in value vs. someone getting nothing for it, and a more expensive bundle at that. Then you have the audacity to try to tell the walmart people that they lied about calling so you're going to call the district manager. Beleive me, I hate Walmart as much as the next person, but it doesn't give you any right to pull such a scam. Plus what if that person's register was audited, and they got written up, or worse fired for having no approval? I don't know why I'm arguing about this, seeing as you have no post count, you're probably just a troll, but if this is true you're an absolute dope and I hope you get cheated someday yourself.
gilligansdingy
Actually if you read, the manager Approved the transaction. So nobody was hurt from the deal. And if they would have done their job propperly and called the store they would have never sold it to me for that price.
IndieSnob
I did read the post, mangers are not the only ones to audit that. They are also checked by the regional corp headquarters. Point is, stupid or not for the manger to approve it, it's wrong and deceitful. Just my 2 cents.

Also, I thought the whole point of this site was working the system to get the best out of what you have (Modding Xbox's). So I worked the system. And I suppose you have never done it before.....

umn thats funny yet kind messed up. u can easily get a xbox for that price on ebay and have the feeling u didnt fuck someone over in the process. and yes regional managers dont take that stuff lightely. i know this because im good friends with a LPM from a fredmeyers and his RM's are dicks about company loss. u basically just kept the money that the ppl in viatman worked hard for in makin that xbox. blink.gif

One of the many purposes of this site is to get the most out of a device you own. Not screwing anyone or any business out of money.
gilligansdingy
So MS isn't loosing money because of xbox-scene? So its ok to screw with MS but not Walmart...

I tend to agree with the oringal post. I mean, personally I've seen what goes on behind the scenes at WalMart. Every store DESTROYS all merchandice that is returned. NO EXCEPTIONS. So, go buy a sweater, its too big, it gets destroyed. Not put back on the rack. What do they do with this massive loss.

Insurance.

Not give the sweater to the poor, or even resell at a breakeven cost. They destroy it. To them this was another write off for the worlds largest retail corperation. They are the ones who rack up huge insurance bills and force the rest of us to pay. If someone can stick it to the big faceless corperation, then so be it. I know when I walk in, I make the greater give me two tags accross all my bags, just to help keep there spending on the rise.

But I rant.

As for "scamming" other buisnesses, I think thats a touch morally shady, but who am I to judge others.

After all, Im sure no angel.

Do you really think the workers in vietnam are effected by profit losses? I don't think so. They get screwed either way. I don't feel sorry one bit for Walmart. Everytime a Walmart pops up some hard working individual loses their shop because they can't compete with Walmarts muscle to undercut prices.

Nice point forgot all about that. I actually had a friends dad shop close a small shop cause he couldn't compete. And also seen my other friends dads import shop close, well wasn't because of walmart it was a modchip/import/japanese anime/Figures/card/ store. Was one of the best shops ive ever been in. I preety much slept there, they had ps2 like a year b4 it came out got my 1st modded psx and psx case also a dreamcast case. That shop was heaven. But, they moved the shop because they were nearby a walmart and he believed he didn't get as much sales as he thought so he moved to a more city like area grr.gif

I've got a good one speaking of cheap Xbox's.... a few weeks back we were shopping in our local Sam's Club, and in the glass cabinet there was an "open box buy" XBox bundle. This was the XBox, 2 controllers, the factory MS DVD remote/dongle, and 2 crap games -- SegaGT and some other shit game. Total price -- $99.

The catch was, that the machine's drive supposedly didn't read game CD's properly. So I got the sales drone over, took at look at the machine... and sure enough, it was perfect. Still had the cling plastic over the buttons, and not as much as a scratch on the rest of the machine. So I took my chances and bought it.

Got it home, fired it up and popped one of the shit games in it.... and sure enough, absolutely NO problem reading the game. It played just fine.

So even having come with two completely useless games, I got the extra controller and the MS DVD remote, plus the console of course. Well worth the cash for the hardware alone.

This machine has since morphed into a modd'd box with an X2.3 Lite and a 120gb drive tongue.gif

If one were inclined to try a scam... I bet you could probably buy one of the Sam's Club bundles at full price. Open up the package, and take it back telling them it doesn't work properly. Within a couple of days I bet they'll put that sucker in the "open box" display cabinet, where you could always have a family member re-buy it for you at $99 smile.gif Just a suggestion.... not saying to defraud the lovely Walton family and their billions.

Actually Wal-Mart probably pays $175 for that Xbox they sell for $179. There's no way in Hell MS would let ANY store make a profit of more than a couple dollars on their systems, when especially when MS loses money on each system they sell. Same thing with Gamecubes and PS2s, and any name brand product you see in any huge department store chain.
