opjose could you answer a quick question for me. I just installed my matrix chip. I have it set on mode3. My hard-drive is the original that came with it, nothing else loaded on there. I bought xbl before I put in my chip and did the update. I have booted to the original xboxdash, but did not use any features on the dash, I turned off the power after getting to the dash. My question is did I set the flag off or can I still set my chip to mode 1 and play xbl with retail games, or am I screwed already?

Dunno.

I'm not sure as to exactly what you've done.

Frankly I'd expect to be banned with a Matrix in Mode 3 sooner or later.

At some point you are bound to make a mistake and get banned.

A switch is somewhat better, but then you must keep XBLive games off the hard drive, the oem dash disabled from within Evolution-X, the XBLive enabled games put away, etc. etc. etc.

All it takes is once. One mess up, go online with the LED green on the mod, and your screwed.

Does doing the connectivity test count as going on LIVE?
