hi! i have readed xbox scene's forum for some weeks and finally i bought my own x-box. here in italy (i guess in the entire europe) the bundle is xbox (usually a 1.4 with thomson)+halo+midtown madness 3+2 months of live for trial. i have decided to soft mod my box, but there are a lot of tutorials and i'm not sure to choose the right one; i should be able to play original disc (i'm not planning to play backups), emulators, dvd/divx/mp3/ecc and i'm not so interested to xbox live. wich SAFE soft mod i should do? (i don't have mechassault or 007 or a memory unit)

ps-i think my xbox is a 1.4 with thomson reader (i'm sure it's a thomson).

you should probably go with the audio hack, but you'll have to get the game save on your xbox somehow, and you will have to rent or buy one of those 2 games to load the hack.

i can open my xbox too, there is no problem (the only problem is how to raise the four small supports under the xbox without break off it), so, can i open my box, connect the hard disk to my pc and transfer the save games?

it'd be kinda hard and out of the way to connect your xbox hd to your pc to transfer game saves. you can make your own AR if don't want to buy one. and you can just rent MA or 007.

what if i follow this tutorial? it seems to explain how to audio-hack the box without 007, mechassault or memory card.

I would suggest using the new MechInstaller Font Hack. There are instructions on how to download and install this brand new setup.

This font hack does not suffer from the clock reset bug, and is in my opinion, must better than the audio hack

can you please link the tutorial for this type of mod? is it tested and working? if i should spend some money for buy mechassault (or 007) and a memory card, i guess my choice will be a mod-chip for about 20€..

you know if you have a usb cable laying around you can make your own AR. all you would need then is to buy a memory card and rent MA. that's how i modded my box.

yesterday i saw some memory cards (MS, ~35€) and some xbox games (~25€) in a supermarket.. here in italy the price of the games and of the peripherals is VERY high, if i should buy game+memcard i should spend somethng like 60€ (~60 dollars). a normal mod chip is for sale at 10-20€... it's not convenient for me to buy a game that i would use only for the mod and a memory card (perfectly useless for me), i'm searching a way to mod my x with an only-software mod. anyway, thank everyone for the help! ^-^
