i want to try out linux on my xbox. i went to xbox-linux and i downloaded eds xebian i believe. and since my dvd player is really messed and wont read anything except this really old audio cd. i cannot burn the iso i need to to a cd. i put the stuff i extracted off the iso into a directory under E:/apps on my xbox and i tried to load that and it just starts to load and sits at the evox logo
what can i do to make it launch the installation disc

you might have better luck with shallax's gentoox. the xebian iso you download is a liveCD that has an app to install to the HD, not an exact copy of what gets installed on your xbox. Why it wouldn't load from evox I don't know, possibly the default.xbe wasn't in the app/whatever directory (i don't think evox will search farther than one directory for it).

gentoox is made to be installed like more like an app immediately, not from a bootable liveCD (I might be wrong here.. but im pretty sure) so it should be easier to install this method.

and another question on my mind can i use the x y and z drives in the xbox to store stuff like movies for evox or could i format the drive specially so that xyz have very little space

different bios? no. not at all. you have the audio hack installed, so you'll have to sign the xbe loader with the -audio key using xbedump. then transfer everything across into an apps directory (just like you did the xebian livecd). then it should be runnable from evox.

let me just state I haven't tried gentoox yet, and the rest is based solely on using xebian and so this is an answer of what's commonly available for xbox linux.

your xbox controller afaik can be a mouse. should be no problem.

formatting your drive differently is a totally different deally, one with which i have no experience. read the tutorials i think they cover it, although I'll just mention that you can always mount shares over the network for movies and the like.

ok why do i need to sign the linux xbe and not the game xbe's

i just tried to sign it and then transfer it to the xbox and it still just hangs there after i click on it
