Hey for the first time tonight a friend and I modded our case. We got the jewls nice and clear and went up to Radio Shack and bought some Yellow and Red LEDS....

We never sodered before but it turned out very easy and I just want to thanks to Ben999
for his awesome tut.. the packages said ultra intensive or something to the effect of being extra bright. Well we do the yellow leds first in my friends box and they look ORANGE!! and isn't very bright.. So then we do my box and the red is DIM.. Dimmer then the "yellow" leds.

I'm disappointed but yet happy because we both learned something and we've joined the elite group of xbox modders. yes everyone and there grandama her have there xbox jewl lit but it's a start.. Do you recommend anything else to make it much brighter? we'd both prefeer not to use BLUE or GREEN!! preferd yellow and Red. Thanks and I hope to start doing a design and stuff on top of my xbox.

from what i heard red and yellow arent that bright although the intensity on the package should tell you to give you an idea but depends on how many used especially to light the jewel and you can also get wide angle led as to spread out the light more like an acyaul light bulb than in a straight direction, try angleing them a lil different as some only shine in a straight path you might get your desired affect but from what i seen the cold cathode ring light up the jewel nice as hell although i havent found just the light i purchased the light attached to a 80mm fan for 17.99 took the light off although not istalled yet waiting for my new case,but put the fan in my pc for some extra HD cooling, i got 3 HD in my pc and they are all stacked with about 1/2 " clearence between with no fan so i put the fan in there,at comp usa i seen a pretty dope kit came with the fan and light assebly 2 10" tube cold cathode lights and a upgraded ide cable and upgraded cable for your floppy drive all 4 $40.00, so just for the lights it a great deal

I forgot to add that we used 8 LEDS and we did the math of ohms law and we were dead on... I'm thinking of getting cold cathodes here soon. I just wanted to use LEDs to start out with and move on the bigger and better things... I'm still kinda mad about it though.

no1 ever should say Radio Shack leds are good....its just a fast place to get them instead of ordering online.

look at the mcd rating (brightness) radioshack's red ones are ~6.3mcd...you want 4,000 mcd...it makes all the difference in the world...it turns a glow...into an awe...

Yeh I picked up a 4000 mcd Blue from rat shack because it was the closest place with them for the dreamcast, sadly it's got this huge ass diffuser thingy, that takes away most of the blinding-ness, but for the most part, i'd say go with cathodes or led's from online

yeah i just got a few from there

5mm Blue 2600 mcd LED's. They are great for the eject button....but I just finished putting them in behind my jewel and i'm pretty disappointed. I only put 6 in though so I might buy a couple more and stick 'em in there. Maybe I used too strong of a resistor.

anyone who keeps buying leds from radioshack might aswell have them shove a broom handle up your ass while you're there. because they are screwing you royaly for both price and quality.

so the moral of this rant is: STAY AWAY FROM RADIO SHACK!
