find something u can practice soldering on...and practice
also, theres some tuts that explain how to solder pretty good
its actually pretty simple:
Heat up whatever you're going to solder with the soldering iron.
touch the solder to the thing u wanna solder...don't touch the soldering iron
also, the tip of the soldering iron isn't what u solder with.
(at least thats what works for me...theres more in depth tuts on this...i'd reccomend reading at least one of em to get an idea of how to solder if u've never soldered before)

Practice, read, practice, try the real thing.
If you have to.. buy a beginner solder project online or at a hobby store - a simple one with some LEDs or a buzzer or something.
Here is some reading for ya:

There is a program called XBtool_1.0.12.b4 out in Xbins that will change the color of teh LED for you.
You can only pick between Green/Red/Orange and when you first boot up its still green while it does the flubber thing but all you need to do is flash your BIOS and it will change the color you select
You can even change the color of the start up logo. This is all without doing any soldering

That flubber thing is horrible, you can use xbtool to get rid of it, and you will be much happier.
