Thats one of those strange codes i cant figure out because a bunch of people have them but we cant be sure if they are banned or if its a network problem. How do you know your banned? Does it stop at Ip, Dns, the other one, or Connection to xbox live?
Ranger_5
Well, it stops at DSN, but before i ACTUALLY could get online and it would say that there was diffivulty and to contact MS and stuff(i was banned) but like now it stops at DNS

oh. well try getting around that (fix your router settings) then report back (its very important you can finally get the info known!)

I thought those codes were C1/C2/C3, not 8C.

At any rate, process of elimination says that 8 is providing the same bit that C is having a problem with - These are binary flags, after all. Here's the Y line:
0000 0000 1000 1100 - 0000 0000 0110 0000

For a C1/C2/C3 line, the first half goes like this:
0000 0000 1100 0001
0000 0000 1100 0010
0000 0000 1100 0011

Fuzzy, for this to be most useful, you should break it down to the individual bits. A "6" in the 5th column of Y as opposed to a "4" doesn't mean anything. It's the specific bit that's flipped:
---- ---- ---- ---- - 0100 1000 0110 0000 <--- xxxx-4860
---- ---- ---- ---- - 0110 1000 0110 0000 <--- xxxx-6860

What I'm getting at is that if this bit is MS_XBOXLIVE_BANNAGE, then a 6 is bannage, as would be a 2, 3, 7, A, B, E, and F.

I thought i read that if you use gamertag from live as profile for Crimson Skies, even playing single player; game will access online for messages from friends list. Ive been very careful not to use harddrive backup when going online. My box was connected to router while playing, and I am sure I didnt log in. But stranger things have happened. About 2 months ago I tried to download content off live with the chip active, but realized right when it connected and I pulled the plug. But I have been using the account for months and just recently got banned. MS reacted very slowly if that was the event that banned my box.

Ok heres the deal. I have a v1.0 xbox. I fried the original motherboard and purchased a new one, got it all setup again with a 20gb hdd. Busted up the daughter board a while ago so i only had ports 1 and 2 so i finally decided to try and fix it....busted up 1 and 2 also and was forced to buy another daughter board..oops. Anyway, I just bought xbox live and wanted to test it out so i installed it on my sisters unmodded xbox. Works great, love it. However, when i got mine back up and running today, i pop in the starter disc, update the dashboard, and UH OH NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTER..!! Everything checks out, except for unable to reach xbox live at the bottom Now sorry if i missed a post, and if i did please feel free to make fun of me, but somehow I seem to be banned from xbox live, when i've NEVER been on xbox live with my xbox to get banned!! Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinkin crappy eeprom? My xyz is as follows:

This is interesting. Other people with the "6" banned code actually get a message stating that they're operating modified equipment.

The people with the C1/C2/C3 codes don't get that message. They just get a "can't find Xbox Live" error. Not sure why MS would provide some people one banned code and others the other. I think this must be another sort of network error.

If someone out there has a C1/C2/C3 box and is competent with a router, do us a favor and do some logging on your connection attempt. See if you can ping the addresses that your Xbox is trying to access. Or, just take a log, send it to me, and I'll see what's what.

Also, list your ISP (and whereabouts you live).

I just get this feeling the c1/c2/c3 has something to do with certian things not matching up like the eeprom data. A lot of people who switch parts around and their eeprom get these codes.

i think it has something to do with the things that you broke like the motherboard, because C2 in your XYZ codes means that your xbox proccesor is doing overtime(thats what ive heard)
RideBurton164
processor doing overtime?? that sounds kinda ridiculous....i just bought a new unbanned eeprom, so we'll see how that works. your processor theory seems almost stupid as the processor is integrated into the motherboard...so its not like there would be a conflict between processor and motherboard. only thing that would be diff with a mb swap is dvd drive and hard drive.

Damnit, i started Rainbow 6 with the modchip turned on just to test the game out and all of a sudden I see some xbox live menu saying "connecting" I immediately turned the xbox off.
I had been playing Crimson Skies without updating the dashboard (unless it did it without letting me know but nothing seems to have changed so i dont think it ever updated) and all of a sudden last night when i tried to play (three or four days after the rainbow 6 incident) Crimson Skies with mod chip off like i always do it goes to some menu and says i have modified hardware. I guess i'm banned?

to finish off my problem from a few replys ago....i got new eeprom and it fixed it so I'm guessing 1 the eeprom on the motherboard i bought from the guy was banned, or some of the codes didnt match up, or they were just completely bogus and made up.

as far as your beta issue man...from what ive read, i understand it that beta users who used chips on live during beta, got banned as soon as the installed retail even if they didnt use the chip on retail...but thats just my understanding

I can't connect to Live since 2 days...
Here's what I THINK happened : the "autolaunch games" parameter was ON in Evox, and so when I booted Crimson Skies loaded, and I didn't notice if my modchip was on or off (red led instead of green).

I tried to connect to Live without any success since ("xbox live not found").... so I think I'm banned...

Well, I've scanned through all the posts in this thread, and I'm busy processing the information down so I can make a definitive list of what each bitflag is.

For now, I can at least disclose the following details:

Having your Live account on an MC or the HD makes no difference.

Setting your connection to 10BaseT or 100BaseTX makes no difference. Your transmission flow settings (Half-duplex / Full-duplex) *will* adjust the W values. I don't know offhand if the Xbox hardware supports Gig-E, and the only place I have access to 1000BaseTX is on our Cisco routers at work, which are heavily monitored, and I don't have a Mac, so I can't check to see if Gigabit Ethernet gives a different value of W. If someone else could check this, that'd be good. Someone way back posted a W: value of 0013, and I don't know what generated that.

Playing around with my connection settings actually gave me a few new values of X:, and I didn't even touch the MAC/PPPoE/Wireless settings.
Cutriss
Also, the 008C that Ranger 5 reported last week is a DNS issue, because you can get that code just by enabling manual DNS specification, and then entering in bogus values.

The error code doesn't distinguish the reason the DNS server was unreachable (eg - connection rejected/denied from machine). I tried setting it to the Xbox itself, my gateway (which wasn't serving DNS), another IP within the same subnet (where no machine existed), and an IP outside the subnet. All four returned the same error code.

So, Ranger 5 may be banned (he said as much), but his problem now is the network and nothing else.

Hopefully, you've laid my mind to rest, I connected (for the first time since Beta) to Xbox Live with my mod-chip enabled using Top Spin, while I was connecting it was taking an age to log into Live so looked down, realised I'd been using DVDX the night before and quickly switched off my Xbox while it was still logging in (must've been 15-20 seconds logging in).

I've checked my codes and here are the results:

using an Ethernet Router, all settings on automatic I live in England.

X: 0000 - F001
Y: 00A8 - 4840
Z: 0000 - 0000

Does that mean I'm safe or will it change later on?

*Edit* I forgot to say I have been on Live after that, I realise sometimes it takes a while to get banned but wouldn't my Y code change as soon as it was detected?

It could change later on because the live system takes a bit to register everything. The codes are based on responses from the server. If your not recieving the trashed response, it wont say it.

Ok, so has anyone found out what the C2 code means?

Here's my problem - I've got two xboxes - one connects, one doesn't - same network - same config - DHCP on my router. Live 2.0 was installed on both - auto-connect was disabled right after I upgraded to 2.0.

The one that isn't working:

It wants to troubleshoot immediately. Upon troubleshooting, it gets an IP, resolves DNS and then immediately hits "Live not found" and pops up this message:

"Your Xbox console cannot communicate with Xbox Live because of technical configuration issues. Please call the Customer Care number listed in your Xbox Instruction Manual for more information."

Here's the XYZ

W: 0000-000B
X: 0000-F001
Y: 00C2-01E4
Z: AFFF-0018

Now, after reading all these posts, I figured something might be up with my EEPROM, since the video mode was changed when I was messing with XBMC. I used a copy of the original EEPROM (from evox backup) to re-do the EEPROM with ConfigMagic - unlocked drive, rewrote EEPROM, Loaded EEPROM, Locked drive. No difference. Still can't find Live.

I'm thinking I'll try swapping the EEPROMS between the two boxes to see if it makes a difference. But that will have to wait until I have more time tomorrow.

Just for kicks, here's the XYZ from the working box:

X: 0000-F001
Y: 00AB-4860
Z: 0000-0000

I'll report my findings on the EEPROM swap tomorrow.

** added info **

Oh - I guess I should mention that I've also recently upgraded my drive from a 120G to a 250G - noticed another post talking about this. However, it is locked - and only a partition 6 - no G drive. Just saw another post talking about this. This may be the root of the problem and caused it stop working, but I haven't tried Live in a couple months, so I don't know if it was working before the drive upgrade.

I'll also swap the drive back to the 120G and see if that does anything as well.
akula169
Confirmed. Xbox Live does not like 250G drives.

These XYZ results are from the same box.

XYZ with 250G - can't find Live

X: 0000-F001
Y: 00C2-01E4

XYZ with 120G - works

No, it's not confirmed at all. Other people have 250GB Xboxes on Live and haven't had a problem.

The C2/AFFF code means there's an incongruity between your hardware and your EEPROM data, meaning you may not have locked the drive properly, or something else may be afoot. We haven't managed to get to the bottom of this issue entirely, but every single person I've seen here with a C2 said that the problem went away when they reflashed their EEPROM, or got a new one.

Skilled work my friend, as for the c2 problem i had recommended before that people reflash and it worked (if you feel im stealing your glory man you can go back and see that i have) but as for the definite answer that the incongruity is there...well...if there were a hats off to you smiley, id be using it here biggrin.gif

Hi Guys.

I have a Netgear RT314 router and suddenly i can't connect to live. Did MS change something. When i try to connect to live i get the something about the router and MTU size greater than some number. What is wrong here? I used to be able to connect but now i can't sad.gif
The codes are:

X: 0000-F001
Y: 00A8-4860
Z: 0000-0000

Am i banned? Do i need to forward any ports in the netgear? In the xbox live settings my xbox has a IP of : 192.168.0.6

Cheers.

So, are you trying to say that ConfigMagic does not properly support drive locking for 250g drives? It certainly works well enough to get past the boot checks...

Why is it that my the EEPROM I have installed is working fine with a 120, but not with my 250?

I'll try swapping EEPROMS from my other box, but I seriously doubt that it will solve my problem - unless there is something with the box version (1.0, 1.1, etc) that allows ppl to use 137g+ drives on XBL without problems.

I understand you might not have the answers, but I'm just going by the obvious logic here. I don't see a need to go out and get another EEPROM if that really isn't my problem. It looks to be that the system is not happy with *something* that the 250g is saying to the system.

My 250g is a WD2500 - perhaps the other people that have gotten XBL to work have a different model?

Let's try to use my data to help figure out what's wrong here, instead of simply trying to shoot me down and move on...

CZECH

When I hook up the 120 everything is cool but when I put the 250 in with the SAME C drive I get the message...The only thing different is the added G drive on the 250 ...Also tried it with a large F with the same results
Cutriss
Hey, I'm not blasting anyone here. I'm just saying that it's a bit of a leap of logic to say that since your 250 GB disk doesn't work on Live, nobody else's does.

Read back through the thread - The error codes you guys are getting have been widely stated (as Fuzzy points out), and in all the cases where people have pursued it further, changing the EEPROM fixed the problem. People have gotten C2/AFFF on lower-capacity drives than 250. I think someone even got it with a 40 GB disk, IIRC.

I'm not bagging on the ConfigMagic folks either, but from what I've seen, it's not as foolproof as using ATAPWD and such to lock a drive. Try plugging your old 120 in, do an EvoX backup, and use HDDUnlock/ATAPWD/Ghost to lock the new one.

If I had a bigass drive like that myself, I'd do it, but I just bought a 120 four months ago, and I'm hoping to get a DVD+R over Christmas, so no new HDs for me anytime soon...

Are you looking for UnlockHDD or HDDUnlock? Make sure you're looking for the latter, and not the former. And I think it's hosted on this site too, BTW.

I just checked, and indeed it is, as are quite a few of the apps mentioned in that howto. Look in the Tools section.

Czech - Nobody's denying that your HD is locked. I'm saying that your HD may be incorrectly locked.

What problems are you having with DOS?

It's not that we want you to stress over this, but if we can confirm this problem, then we'll have a good idea about why everyone else is getting a C2/AFFF error message.

Like many of you, I accidently went online with the chip. Only my problem was that I went online with my old harddisk (I have a 120Gb installed now). So I don't know wether the chip was on or off. And I don't know if the following stats say that I'm banned.... blink.gif

Her are my stats when I press Y

http://xbox-scene.com/articles/eeprom-change.php Theres one right out of the tuts section, you could have looked. Theres also configmagic 2 which is a great eeprom flasher and all around lock unlock tool.

And sorry danny b your banned, but thanks for the codes.

I have an Xbox Version 1.5 with an DMS X B.I.T. Mod. I know I am not blocked because I was never able to create an account with M$. I keep getting a error saying unable to find Xbox Live. I know all my network settings are correct (they have been checked 100s of times). The only thing I can come up with is that it is my EEPROM. When I installed the Mod and new BIOS=Evox M7 and Evolution 3921. This install was done using Slayers Evox V2.5. I went in to the program Config Majic to check my Mac address and acidently changed my S/N to 01010101010 buy telling it to load from the system or something like that. When I couldn't get it back I manualy input the correct information, but as you can see I am not able to connect to Xbox Live.

Mabe you can help me in recovering from my errors.
