My 120 gig hard drive i've been using for about 18 months suffered a hard disk crash, so I swapped my original hard drive back in expecting to be banned.

I downloaded all the content for the games I had, including a bunch of premium stuff I'd bought previously. I did this over the course of 2 days.

A week later I went on line to see if any mates were on Pool Shark 2. The next morning (no more than 12 hours later), I put Halo 2 in to get the auto-updates and free maps and I was banned.

Network settings stuff is:
1.00.5971.01
W: 0000-000B
X: 0000-000D
Y: 00AB-6800 (this is probably 00A8-6800, couldn't see clearly this morning when I wrote them down)
Z: 8015-190D
L: 0 ms (0ms) P: 0/0

Manual IP, manual DNS
Chip is a chameleon, in mode 4, e.g. hold eject to boot MS bios.
Chips bios is xecuter 4981.06
Booted a couple of times with chip on and tried to access live by accident, but the 4981 has always blocked me before
A couple of rogue evox files left on C:, and a mechassualt softmod file in the UDATA on E:

The hard disk in at the mo was in from before Live launched in the UK to Dec 2003, at which point I changed hard disk to the 120 gig which has now crashed, put the original hard disk back in 23/04/05, was still on live on 30/04/05, banned 01/05/05

M$ and bungie have been making their stand on halo 2, a lot of the poeple banned here are banned from halo 2. But at the same time M$ bans arent always immediate, they can take up to a week, to ban, this is a perfect example of marriage theory at work. sorry about the ban. Just get a new hdd new eeprom, and a new gamertag, youll be back up and running in no time. best of luck. beerchug.gif

This should be fine, right? I'm thinking about getting Live.

I bought this XBox second hand from EB, it's a 1.1 PAL. It had not been modified before (apart from the refurbishing EB gave it) and now has a X2.6 with EvoxM8, in what ever mode it is when you hold the power button to boot the M8, tapping it or using eject to boot the regular BIOS. Thanks in advance.

I have a flashed box with a switch. The eeprom hasn't ever been on live, or banned, so it should work, correct?

However, it gives me a "network error" saying it cannot connect to xbox live.

x: 0000-F001
y: 00C2-03E0
Z: 0000-0000

I tried switching video mode with enigmah's, from NTSC to PAL, then back to NTSC, but that didn't seem to do anything.

I unlocked the HDD, re-loaded the eeprom from a backup, and relocked it.

I'm still getting the same error. Any advice?

How would a new eeprom work, if this one has no problems?

thanks.
stoopid2001
Ok I got-

1.00.5971.01
W: 0000 - 000B
X: 0000 - F009
Y: 00AB -6860
Z: 8015 - 190D
L: 0 ms (0ms) P : 0 / 0

I've read through a good portion of this topic and still cant figure it out. If someone could help me out...awesome.
Basically I started using XBL a few months ago with my 2.6b off with no problems. The other day it just stopped working, cant find xbl.

Thanks in advance for the help.
sidewinder33
sorry stoopid but thats a ban the 6 in the y line is a ban ie. Y:xxxx-6xxx= ban. You'll need a new eeprom(correct version for your xbox) a new hdd(large or small.) If you want to keep your old gamertag you'll need to get a small hdd (8-10 gigs) or you can get a new big hdd and get a new gamertag. Make sure not to use your old gt on an xbox with a bigger hdd, once your gt is flagged m$ scans your hdd every time you log in. best of luck . beerchug.gif

mct the c2 error is an eeprom problem. Have you done anythig lately? The good news is its not a ban. I had the c2 error but mine was as simple as just all i had to do was switch my video mode and back again. I have seen that code before but I havent seen a solution other than getting a new eeprom, that will probably be the best way to go $10 bucks and your back on your way.
stoopid2001
Will I also lose the remainder of my 12 month subscription?
paul_phil
I've heard about people phoning M$ up to get their gamertag changed (just say people keep calling you names or some sh1t like that) and it un-flags that gamertag smile.gif

Hey can someone help me out? Last Week I was on Live but then all of a sudden, i try to connect to live it says its not found, and I just got another eeprom put in.

My XYZ codes are:

X: 0000-F001
Y: 008A-0FE0
Z: AFFF-0018

HELP!
hhmm you arent banned but your hardware has been messed with. both the 8A and the AFFF codes tell me that, but thats about all they tell me have you ever switched your video mode? did you copy your hdd correctly, did you buy your box new or used, do you know where it was originally made to run in i.e. europe or usa. i believe that you get this error from just messing with your eeprom either on purpose or not.

I haven't ever switched my video mode, and a "pro" copied my hdd. My xbox was bought new and it was bought in Canada (where i am now), and the "pro" was the one who put a new eeprom in. anything i can do to fix this problem or shuold i take it bak???

A long shot I know but I have virtually the same results:

W: 0000 - 000B
X: 0000 - F001
Y: 008A - 0FC0
Z: AFFF - 0018

and I've noticed that I have a 1.1 box with what appears to be a 1.6 eeprom in, and exactly the same thing happened to me, worked fine for 3 months then didn't get banned but got a "Network error" (3 green lights, last one red) and a normal unmodded XBOX works perfectly on the same connection.javascript:emoticon('')

I have the codes:
W:0000-000b
X:0000-f001
Y:008a-0fe0
Z:afff-0018

I get the error "Could not connect to xbox live".
I played Halo 2 online yesterday.
maybe my region changed after i played Forza today, don`t know wich region it was.
I have a pal xbox v.1.1 with x3
I am going to try to restore an old eeprom backup tomorrow
sidewinder33
so just all of a sudden you got the cant connect error. Did you do anything like messing around with settings in your box? these are your new codes right, you didnt connect to live with those.from what ive read the afff in the z line is a pretty bad error, if restoring your eeprom doesnts work i might suggest just getting a new one.
AndyBroke
I think i have to buy a new one, the old eeprom didn`t seem to work.
Or maybe i can go over to xlink
sidewinder33
the big thing with xlink is cheating and lag, id stick with live, its just easier. ya just get a new eeprom and set that baby up.
Lord Magnus
Man, the 8A error is a bitch... I spent hours trying to help a guy here with it, and it was thought that switching video modes back and forth and then rebooting it could be fixed, but not in this case.

It seems to be a big hardware misconfiguration... or the eeprom got corrupted somehow. We tried reflashing the bios, but no joy, same thing. So beats me.

If anyone knows, or has been successful in fixing this error, please, let me know.
sidewinder33
the only solution ive ever come across is just getting a new eeprom and that isnt always a fix. the c2 errors are the easy ones, from personal experience i know they can be fixed, but the 8a errors , I do agree that they are noodle scratchers. damn m$ and all their anti hacking crap. why wont they let us just have fun.
From my understanding the c2 is one of the errors that can be fixed with the video switching, the 8a is kinda a "you F'd up real bad buddy, aint no way your getting on live like that.

i have the same error, mine just stooped working and got his a week or so ago. before that i was fine on live for 6 months.
sidewinder33
sounds like your eeprom got corrupted somehow, the best route and the only one ive seen that can possibly fix this problem, is just by getting a new eeprom
herbtv
How does it get corrupted? Since I purchased the current eeprom and updated it, could it have been sold again to someone else?

I also used config magic, is it likely that the locking of the HD with the TEAMASSEMBLY master password could be the culprit? It seems stange that people are having these errors right after another Halo2 update (maps and v1.1) and/or Forza release.
skiguy411
sad.gif

After not playing live for about 3 weeks, I decided I would play again. However, I can't connect. This was before the Halo 2 map update, but after playing forza. Here are my codes

W:0000-000B
X: 0000-F001
Y: 008A-0FC0
Z: AFFF-0018

Has anyone had success with just buying a new EEPROM?
sidewinder33
a few things can do it its not really, anything you do it just happens sometimes. Mucking with setting randomly changing things also does it.

skiguy the 8a error is the same thing that herbtv is going through, the only thing ive seen that has ever fixed the problem is by getting a new eeprom. its not really a fix bt it can work, if it doesnt then something in your xbox isnt right, whats wrong is anybodies guess.
AndyBroke
I also got the AFFF error after playing forza.
looks like MS has got a new anti hacking tool sad.gif
sidewinder33
the afff error is just a mismatching eeprom error, either the hardware isnt all from the same version, or the eeprom is corrupted, like it says on the first page its usually from messing with your video mode, but if you didnt, then your eeprom is probably corrupted. if you have a back up of the original one you can try that, the only thing ive ever seen to even give a chance of fixing the 8a error, (which because of the afff im assuming you have) is by getting a new eeprom , if you still get te eror after that thensomething on the hardware end isnt matching up correctly and your problem gets a bit tougher.
ludicrous50
I also have the all mighty 8A error. However, if i were to get a new eeprom, would i also need a new hdd to go along with it?
ludicrous50
BTW I have never been banned and am going to be creating a new account on xbox live. I also have a upgraded hdd already installed. Wil i still need a new hdd?
sidewinder33
no your good the 8a code isnt a ban, so if its a software problem then you should be good.
ludicrous50
Alright cool, hopefully someone can figure out what exactly needs to be done in order to get connected again. So far I have had no lcuk trying many differnt things to connect.
ludicrous50
i've tried replacing my C and E drive with the originals with no evox, same error and codes. I haven't tried the video switch yet, but i feel that that won't fix anything. Anyone else with any ideas please feel free to speak.

I mite put in my original hdd with original C and E and see if it does anything.
ludicrous50
Just a quick question. Instead of messing around and shit, could i just get a virgin eeprom and load it up. Cause i'm planning on gettting a new gamertag and i'm usin a bid hdd. Anyone know if i could just do this instead? It ould save a lot of hassle.
sidewinder33
getting a new eeprom is the only thing ive seen take the 8a error away.
ludicrous50
alright thats all i neeed to know. getting a new eeprom sounds a lot easier than what i have been trying to do with my box.
ericgandhi
when i troubleshoot my connection, everything is fine except i get the xbox live not found error at the end. xbox live was working fine for me earlier. also, my xbox live account just seemed to be gone when i looked in my dashboard this morning. now unless i or someone else accidently erased it, this is strange. what can i do to fix my xbox live? please help me. here is my wxyz info.

read the first few pages of this thread and the earlier threads by fuzzy.
ericgandhi
i tried that PAL thing but it didnt work. i guess the next thing to try will be hooking the hard drive up to my computer or whatever. does anyone have a good step by step on how to go about doing that? i know how to hook my HD up to my PC and everything, but what do I do after that when Fuzzy talks about going through the whole locking/liveinfo procedure again? also, i replaced that little mini board that is inside the xbox (the one the controller ports plug into) with one from a friend's xbox because mine was messed up or something and wasnt detecting the last two controllers. could this be an issue because i introduced hardware from another xbox?
sidewinder33
that could be a problem, the c2 error tells us that something isnt matching what it thinks it needs, but i dont know if the controller board that you're speaking of does anything other than just make connections, you knwo not like when the xbox boots up it doesnt run to the board and ask for its id. I think its just prettymuch wires, but then again it could be a smart board, who knows. do you have a backup of your eeprom before it gave you the c2 error?

i hit restore but it didnt work. what should i do now.. hook up my HD to my computer and run LiveInfo or something? im sorry im a noob at this
ludicrous50
If you can try what sidewinder said and try putting in your old eeprom pre-c2 error. If that doesn't work, try putting in your old hdd with a virgin C and E drive... make sure have evox on a cd before hand in order to revert back.
ericgandhi
i took my HD out and put my old one back in but it didnt do anything. what exactly should i do? im not sure what to do about this C2 error. thanks in advance.
bigpopaz69
ok heres the deal . recently i have been band from xbl. since then i flashed the eeprom .now i still get xbl not found mtu not greater than 1300 sum thing. im pretty sure its because of the hard drive the Y code is 00C2 mismatched hardware. is their any thing i can do to get rid of this problem or will i need another stock hd . dont have any of the original back ups just the old eeprom

You'lll likely need a new HDD. I don't think it matters if it's stock or not.
sidewinder33
your xyz codes are all the numbers they give you the first four and the last four, the c2 error is more than likely from the eeprom, read the first post on this thread to see some solutions, If you didn't change your banned hdd out then you probably got banned again. the mtu is on your router that has nothing to do with your hdd, anyways until i see your full xyz codes im gonna say you need a new hdd, and maybe a new eeprom, post your full xyz codes and we'll see what is the problem.
bigpopaz69
thouse are all the codes except the 1.00.5971.01 code

The c2 error isnt a bad thing, have you tried using the enigmah video switcher, to switch the video mode or have you checked to see if the eeprom had the same dvd region? check all of them also have you changed anything other than your hdd and eeprom? i.e. dvd, and bit of hardware other than the hdd.
bigpopaz69
havent changed hd yet that will probally get rid of it i ran the video switcher was set to ntsc reloaded the ntsc just to try it no gothe only thing ieve switched was the eeprom
sidewinder33
before you start trying to get on live you need to change your hdd if you get on with your old banned one then you'll get banned again. you need to change it to pal and then back to ntsc not just load ntsc, also make sure that the dvd region adn all the other regions with the eeprom match where you are.
astrophong
I have an XBox where it won't let me connect to Live, but doesn't give me the modified hardware/software error.

The box was never connected to Live before the installation of the new hard drive and mod chip (or after). I used Norton Ghost to clone the original drive to a WD 120G drive.

I then used Config Magic to lock the drive and EvoX to create the F: drive (via format command).

I'm in the US and my region settings are set to NTSC - Region 1, which should be correct.

Everything looks kosher, but I still can't connect to live when I launch with my mod chip switched off.

My WXYZ codes are as follows:
0000 - 000B (W)
0000 - 000D (X)
008A - 0F80 (Y)
AFFF - 0018 (Z)

As far as my Gamer Tag goes, I was logged into it a while back when I accidently logged onto Live with a XBox I had just modded (forgot to turn off auto connect - damn the luck). I don't know if this is a factor or if using a new GT would help.

I'm open to any good ideas, if anyone has any suggestions. I was thinking about restoring my old EEPROM and redoing the drive, but I didn't see how that would help. I'm also stuck not knowing if my drive is married to my Serial Number...

thnx
