IMPORANT: Since this information has been posted a lot has been revised. Reading this will tell you nothing. You are better off browsing towards the middle of the thread. I am leaving this info intact for reference but alot of it has been changed through time.
This is a re-post of my discoveries as a seperate topic.
Ok, ive looked through a lot and here's how its working.
NEW: W Update: The W code changes depending on your "flow" rate half duplex or full duplex. (Special thanks to Cutriss)
X. First of all, the first four numbers of x should always be zeros. They SHOULD always but I haven't seen one that isn't. If it isn't that is most likely not a problem
Y. 00A8 seems to be common among banned and not banned boxes. Now here is where the problem is. Apparently 6860 indicates an LPC mod that is enabled or a non switched non-LPC mod enabled. 6820 means that the system had once had a modchip in it but at the moment is not running. Other wise it should be something like 4840 or 4820.
NEW INFO:
00C2 In your second Y code is almost definitely an unconformity in Eeprom info. This is caused by either editing the eeprom so that parts do not match, or other types of unmatching data (can be caused by replacing parts in the xbox or locking and unlock attempting with different things.) New Info! (Not Confirmed)
| QUOTE |
I had the 00C2 code and got the "XBox Live not found" error, however when I prepared my HD using the "long" version of locking (involving using a PC and Norton Ghost to clone the original xbox drive, then using LiveInfo and atalock to lock the HD), the 00C2 code went away, and I have been playing on Live happily ever since (for about 2 weeks now).
All these people that have purchased new EEPROMs probably didn't need to. There's another post somewhere in this thread that mentions using the PAL<->NTSC video mode switcher may also alleviate the 00C2 problem. |
00C2 (Almost Definitely) FINAL INFO:
By Cutriss
It is my guess (and much of the user-posted evidence supports this) that when people are using ConfigMagic to lock their HDs, they are either doing so incorrectly, or there may be an underlying problem in ConfigMagic.
If your Xbox is banned and you successfully connect to Live, you will always get a message saying that your connection is dropped because of modified hardware or software.
If you simply get the message "Xbox Live not found", then check your XYZ settings. Specifically, we're looking at row Y, the third and fourth characters. If these say "C1", "C2", "C3", or "8A" (NOT A8!), then you have a hardware mismatch problem with your EEPROM. Typically, you'll also see "AFFF" or "0000" in the first half of Z as well. This most frequently arises from people modifying their EEPROM settings so that they can play PAL software on an NTSC Xbox, or vice versa.
harrytasker points out that using the Enigmah PAL-NTSC switcher can possibly restore this:
| QUOTE |
I had same problem but i FIXED it like this: I ran my avalaunch and looked at my Hardware settings. It said i had PAL-1 or PAL-I whatever and behind it said: WEIRD So i thought let's use the Enigmah PAL-NTSC switcher, so i did and select PAL, rebooted again and checked hardware again. The WEIRD word was gone so i turned off modchip, rebooted and voila i was able to connect again to the XBOX live. Dont know what went wrong but its working again |
If this fails, the best way to fix this problem is to backup everything on your HD and start the HD locking/prepping procedure all over again, using your old EvoX backups (YOU DO HAVE THESE, RIGHT?), and ATAPWD/HDDUNLOCK/LiveInfo. Don't forget to copy your Live account to a memory card. Once you've completed this procedure, copy your Live account back, and try to connect to Live. You should connect successfully.
You do *not* need to replace your EEPROM because of a C1/C2/C3/8A error.
And the moral of the story? Quit mucking around with your region settings.
Z. The last row (a.k.a Z) has to do with packets and trashed responses. The first 4 numbers deal with response on whether is banned, will be banned, or is not banned. The last 4 numbers are a combo. The first two (19 generally) have to do with which live region your in (dont ask) the second two have to do with packet receiving. D is no packets, C is two packets one trashed, 17 is trashed but readable packet. 0000 is any amount of none trashed packets.
A good code should look something like this:
X: 0000-F021
Y: 00A8-4840
Z: 0000-0000
You Cannot Change Your XYZ Codes! And even if you could it would do nothing! This is what I have deciphered and I believe it is 99.9% correct. I hope it is of some use to Zander, Opjose, Undead, and others. Thanks for your time
How To Get Your XYZ Info.ATTENTION, THIS TUTORIAL ASSUMES YOU HAVE ALREADY FULLY INSTALLED XBOX LIVE!1.Turn off your modchip and go to the Xbox Dashboard.
2.Click on the Xbox Live Tab.
3.Go to Network Connections.
4.Wait for the Green Lights (or red X'es depending on your setup) to load.
5.Once they load highlight the help button.
6.Over the help button press the Y button.
7.An X code a Y code and a Z code will come up along with more packet data including upload and download speed.
8.Take note of these Numbers.
9.Post results in Xyz Code, Uncoded on the Xbox-Scene forums in the Xbox Live section
On another note,
Some people do not get this. I am going to have to say this for everyone who does not listen to a thing me, kickace, or opjose (or undead or etc) says.
Changing your XYZ Codes will do nothing. The XYZ codes are codes that deliver information about your system in data format. They do not relate to anything about being banned, they only tell you if you are or will be banned. People dont understand. CHANGING YOUR XYZ CODES WILL NOT UNBAN YOU EVEN IF YOU FIGURED OUT HOW i hope this helpes opjose and undead answer all the posts about people wanting to change their xyz codes.
Editing Your Eeprom Will Give You A Bad Code And Will Not UnBan You!-Fuzzy (yes i realize i have typed this before but noone sees it because its in the middle of the xyz post.
Thanks To Shanafan, Cutriss, Opjose, Undead, and all the others who are working to make it easier to not get banned and help if you are!

BTW - I was fine during the beta2 period with a mod enabled - it wasn't till retail that I got banned

, even though by then I had installed an off-switch. Is this generally the story, or weren't some people banned during beta? I'm wondering why I wasn't. Sorry if I've missed this buried in the threads.

Enigma'd xbox before i installed startup disc, since before installing live enigma has always been out of the xbox. Works on Live fine (i traded my original banned xbox with a friend who wasn't gonna buy live).
so no mod chip in, there used to be one (enigmah), and xbox live works:
X:0000-F001
y:00A8-4860
Z:8015-1917
although i have 8015 on z, i'm not banned because it works (hopefully it doesn't mean they are waiting to ban me)

hey fuzzy..
its actaully the first 48 bytes

the first 16 bytes is only a checksum of the next 32 bytes that containts the region, confounder and hdd key (all rc4 encrypted of course)
so strictly speaking the only way to change the first 16 bytes is to change anyone of the following 32 bytes and recalculate the first 16 byte checksum

X:0000-f001 or f021 or etc. f0something
Y:00A8-4860 or 4820 or any other 4 (if this starts with a 6 ex 00A8-6860 your banned, no questions, dont bother)
Z:8015(still not sure completely of meaning)-1917,190D(which is pretty bad),190C(which is pretty bad) and im goign to look into 1919.

OK, quick intro:
My setup specs are in my sig. Working fine in both Mod and Non Mod ( EJECT power-Up) while Xbox Live Beta was on. But since the 15th of Nov I have been unable to get on.
Called MS and after several days I got the question: "do you have a mod chip?" I said, "what's that?" :-) LOL
It seems that MS intentionately allowed people with moded boxes access to LIVE beta to record their info and made sure none or us that got on during that period with the mods active will be allowed back in, mod detected or no mod detected.
For reference here's my info:
1.00.4920.01
X: 0000 - 000D
Y: 00A8 - 6800
Z: 8015 - 190D
All the rest of info has "0" in it indicating no data going back and forth.
Both IP and DNS are in manual mode!
Now comes the big questions for the experts:
What do we need to change, and how, to get back on with the mod chip off?

well thats about all I've checked so far. I also would like to add that i can "temporarily" connect to live if i set the date prior to november. When i set the date to... lets say october 6th 2002, and try to access the live menu from the xbox main screen i get a connected message. Normally i get a "unable to connect" message or something. When i try to press the connect button at the live menu, it performs the tests as usual but reverts the date back to the current one, and says the usual "xbox live not found". I don't know if this info is useful or not.

PHEW
Originally I was just going to post my numbers, but while I was trying out different settings to get more sets, I noticed some patterns I wanted to look at. Here's my theory:
I haven't looked at Z at all, and not much at Y, but I'm almost certain X and Y are sets of bitflags (I think probably Z too). That is, if you convert the numbers to binary, each bit represents a flag. 1 for on, 0 for off. It's about 7am and I haven't gone to sleep yet, so I'm going to make this quick and post what I've got so far and do some more tomorrow.
I'll describe them as:
X1X2 - X3X4
that is, X byte 1, X byte 2, etc.
And the flags I'll refer to as
X1.1 - 8
that is, X byte 1, flag(bit) 1 - 8.
Guesses so far:
X3.1 - IP Setup correctly
X4.4 - No cable detected
X4.5 - DNS Failure (set if both OR either DNS fails)
X4.6 - Manual IP config?
X4.7 - Cable detected, but not working
This would explain why working connections always seem to have X3 at F*. F means all four first flags are set, which appears to indicate success in those four areas. IE, in my test where I gave it the same IP as my PC and got an IP conflict, I got an X3 of 08, which means none of the first 4 flags are set. The only time I've seen flag X3.1 not set is when it can't get an IP.
Btw, fuzzy, did you actually get an X3X4 of F021 like you've used in your examples? If so, what was your setup? I've haven't seen X4.3 set and the X4s are what I've got the most on.
If anyone has info that doesn't fit with my theory lemme know, this is just what I came up with off no sleep at 7am

I'll post some of my more interesting numbers/conditions for you tomorrow fuzzy.

Z:8015-190D

Also seems when a cable is unplugged it gives:
X 8000-0011
For the X number.
I don't have xbox live but these are findings gathered from peoples posts here. Hope it is somewhat useful.

The 8015 in the Z section has nothing to do with banning chips, I’m 100% sure of this, I have 2 Xbox systems that are modded (homebrew with Evox 2.5 and an engimah final) I also have a non-modded xbox, and the person in my basement has a non-modded xbox too, I’ve got switches on my modded systems and I use the enigmah system to play on live, I’ve never had any connection issues with any games except Ghost Recon, which will not work on the two unmodded systems either. However my Z section is usually 0000-0000 on all systems but I have seen 8015 on all systems, including the unmodded systems, infact I can almost recreate 8015 now with almost 100% accuracy. If I consume mass amounts of bandwidth on my network (I have 3 computers running from my cable modem and one XBOX at a time) by downloading many things on my computers I will get 8015 almost always, and I will also almost always get lower DL and UL speeds too, and when I try to join any games I will almost always get “Network Connections will effect gameplay would you like to continue anyway” message. I have been using enigmah with a switch since Nov 15th and have not been banned, I’ve tried my homebrew with a switch and not banned and I’ve tried the two modded systems, all get same results. I think the 8015 tends to be more about network speeds being a bit slow than to do with banning, because if 8015 means a mod chip has been detected and banning will occur it wouldn’t make sense to get this on a unmodded system. I’ve also noticed that my upload and download speeds are almost always displayed wrong (a lot of people says theirs are too low, mine are usually too high??) anyway www.pcpitstop.com reports my cable connection as being somewhere between 800-1200 kbps 95% of the time, sometimes it will be 600 or even 1400 but rarely, average is somewhere around 950 or so, my uploads are usually reported between 300-600 95% of the time, sometimes it will fall to 200 or rise to 700 but rarely. On all four Xboxes I’ve tested my numbers are rarely similar to those, I’ve come to conclude that this is something to do with my ISP because another person I know with the same ISP gets similar results, however someone I know with a DSL connection (I have cable) gets very close to his DSL limits on DL but only about half on his UL with Xbox. Anyway, 90% of the time on all four Xboxes I will get same XYZ values X: 0000-F001 Y: 00A8-4840 Z: 0000-0000 when I consume bandwidth, as mentioned earlier, I usually get X: 0000-F001 Y: 00A8-4860 Z: 8015-1919 this is the same for all four Xboxes (two modded and two unmodded) about 90% of the time, sometimes the F001 in X will be different (so rarely I can’t remember what it is) and the second number in Y is sometimes 4820 (also very rarely) the other number are never anything other than what I have mentioned. On my DL the Xbox almost always tells me I have 4000-6000 Kbps which is high, rarely it will be 1400-1500 which is more realistic, and UL is usually over 9000 which is totally crazy, rarely it will display as 250 Kbps or so. My Ping is usually between 100-150 and sometimes goes up to 250 (which tends to be a issue with cable) and I almost always get 8/8 displayed but have seen 8/9 on occasion. To me it seems that the 8015 in Z has nothing to do with mods as I get them on unmodded systems too, I’m not sure if this is any good to you, but I hope it helps.

sorry to burst ur bubble nightrain but i have discovered that i was wrong about the 8015 it has nothing to do wiht banning or modchips, sorry. I thank you for pointing it out though, that first post was made wuite a while ago. this 8015 info is very interesting im reading right now. the speeds are always wrong, we already do know that. yes dsl s=does not work as well remember earlier i said they also vary depending on where you are.8/9? are you sure?

Maybe you already knew this but it looks like all banned xbox's have:
Z:8015-190D |
as for that, these numbers both have NOTHING to do with modchips. Sorry dude but inferences without enough info dont work
. 8015 im working on (nightrain id like to talk with you some time about it) and 190D has to do with recieving packets and other info.
