The 5.1 surround encoded Xbox games are too good to not play in surround. Its one of its best capabilities. I have mine hooked into my full home theater. I couldnt have it any other way. Very impressive.
DBZRacer
Well lets just put it this way when playing Halo. When you're in one of those many corridors and you have your surround sound set up, you can hear those daym little covenant guys come up from behind you! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

I wouldn't play Halo or any other game any other way...

Sorry to fuck up the post, but do you need a reciever to get digital sound, (i mean the dolby sound) or can i just mod the mobo in the xbox or mod the advanced a/v cables to enable digital sound, these are my speakers. Here

sad.gif
I am too poor to buy this stuff. Maybe next year. Now, i am try to make it end all xbox games. biggrin.gif
SigTom
DieNastyakaTestament:

Yeah you need something, either a receiver in a home theater set up, or a card in your computer if thats how you listen to your XBox speakers (thatd be fun to set up) to decode the DD or DTS signal from the XBox. Those speakers would plug in to either the receiver or the card (like one of those Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1 cards).
fin1581
Anyone out there planning on getting a sweet new surround sound system anytime soon?

Running 2 500 watt amps through each other does not give you 1000 amps of output, it still only gives you 500. You may be able to get a higher sound level before distortion, but it is still only 500 watts output. Also RMS and Peak are two seperate things. Peak is the highest it can possibly output, RMS is where it will be operated most freqently.

I have a Yamaha 450 watt 5.1 setup and on my 36 HDTV I think I have a very good game setup. I like it more than my friends 63 inch projection TV setup.
therebelious1
i think you may be a little confused about RMS- it stands for root mean square and is used to give single values for varying currents, powers or voltages for example ac mains voltage

its basically (simplistically) an average value for the power output
hugekins
I just couldn't imagine playing my xbox without surround sound. It just makes the games seem a whole lote more interesting.

Yop, Dolby Digital 5.1 is the way to go. Unless you're super rich and can get 6.1/7.1.

Pioneer NSDV-301 - nice shiney silver 5.1 slim line Amp, plus matching speaker set.
Panasonic TX32PL10C - nice shiney silver 32" flatwidescreen 100hz TV.

And the Xbox runs loverly through it (As do the GC,DC, Saturn and PCEngine Duo RX). biggrin.gif

However, when it comes to the question of which looks & sounds better - Halo or Metroid Prime, I reckon I have to go for Metroid. Probably. ph34r.gif
Mr Ed
Slightly off topic, and I'm glad you love your silver components...

But is anyone pissed off at the move away from matte black to frikin' silver? Why would you want the enclosure of your TV to be silver? Or your stereo components?

I should setup a poll asking if people prefer the silver or hate it. jester.gif

I can't imagine not watching movies or playing Xbox without DD (and of course DTS when available; if you don't think DTS puts DD to shame, you're messed up in the head! --> of course this doesn't apply to Xbox though). From another point of view, my brother finally got a good 5.1 system, and it seems like everytime I talk to him he's raving about how sweet Xbox is with surround sound.
spillage

fin1581
Man, this topic has a lot of replies since I checked it out last. Anyways, I might be getting a job in the Home Theater Department at Best Buy and if I do, I am gonna put the fuckin store out of business lol. I guess employees get everything at the price the store gets it at. A dude there was tellin me he got a $3500 TV for $1400. Hopefully this is true but if not, it would still be a sweet ass job!

I have a relatively cheap surround system set up(compared to some of you other rich mofos), but I do NOT have a subwoofer hooked up. Is it worth purchasing?? Do any xbox games make good use out of the subwoofer channel???? I generally don't watch too many movies in my room, so I don't want to waste the money on the sub unless a lot of the games make good use of it.
simonduz
Most definitely!

6.1 surround sound w/ 150 watt sub,
4 bass shakers wired to 2 seperate amps,
and a 7' Infocus X1 DLP HD display.
Gaming heaven!

Go with a few inexpensive bass shakers from partsexpress. It will make a huge difference with 80% less disturbance.

Yea, you can get an 8" 100-watt one for cheap that will make it worth your while to at least purchase.

Yea, most games now have dolby digital 5.1 ability for XBox and it sounds sooo much better man. Even if you have a cheap system, it will make it 100 times better than your experience with your TV's speakers.
