Update from Team Xecuter: Xecuter3 info and FlashX v1.1 issues
>> From Team Xecuter:
QUOTE

* X3 is taking a long time due to real life issues, but it is getting there slowly but surely. (If we coded software full time and the hardware guys were full time this would have been released months ago heh) - So what we have done is made a little bios update for all X2 users, essentially to give you a little "teaser" of the kind of stuff we're looking at. Hopefully should be ready by the weekend but it will at least wet your appetites smile.gif

* We released FlashX v1.1 yesterday but it seems it still has the following issues:
-Detects mod as protected flash when its unprotected
-Very Slow Flashing
-Crash on Bank 4
Now whats strange is that this works perfect on the machines tested on - but these were v1.0 and v1.1. Maybe its an issue with v1.2 / v1.3 ? - We will get this sorted asap

News from Team Xecuter about X3
>> From Ubergeek (Team Xecuter) on forums.xbox-scene.com:
QUOTE

I'm sure you are wondering why we havent released a new bios for v1.4 yet and why dont we talk about X3 or the new xbox case designs we revealed a while ago

Well here's a bit of news to wet the appetite:

First of all we had the choice of releasing a new bios for 1.4 or wait a while for the new X3 bios which has X3 hardware dependant features
Well, evox kinda made the decision for us so you simply use M7 for now - next bios from us will be X3 (as most of you now know Xecuter bios's are designed entirley differently to Evox bios which is based on implementing hacks to an official M$ bios - therefore making the "standard" hacks much easier and faster to implement)

X3 hardware is pretty much done - we're just packing as many features into it as physically possible. As soon as the new embedded XBE is done (no its not ftp ) then we will make an announcement of the new hardware as well as the new bios (which will of course be 1.4 / 1.5 compatible) plus the new XBE and PC apps that will be incorporated with it. We havent done this before now as its a bitch to announce a new mod then you wait 6 months to see it. X3 will be announced / released within a 2 week period.
Also expect X3 intergration and support from the main homebrew app guys (especially avalaunch, mxm, xbmp, xbmc and offerings from team assembly and others) We will be discussing various issues with this community in the very very near future.
USB Speed is a also priority on X3 and has been completely tested on all OS and all versions of xbox. We will make sure it has an optimal USB chipset (not decided on USB 1.1 or 2.0 yet - its a matter of cost vs function)

On a final note - we're concentrating all efforts now on finishing X3. Most of the time has been on spent on design ideas / implementation. We've been listening to what all of you wanted and what other mod makers have offered. We feel X3 will be the ultimate mod for your xbox giving you all the features you desire both functionally and "coolness".

We won't be showing any feature lists until its all done and finished. However we will offer the chance for you to offer suggestions and ideas for the FINAL version which will be the one that will hit the stores before Christmas.

About the xbox case: As soon as X3 is finished we will be investing in getting that finished too. A website will be hosted and we will be listening to all your ideas and suggestions which will ulimatley be a design that YOU asked for.

in the meantime enjoy what's available to you right now

Xecuter3 new prototype picture
>> Team Xecuter just released another image of their Xecuter3 prototype.
No design/layout image this time, but a synthetic picture of the Xecuter3 mainboard.
Keep in mind this is a DEVELOPMENT board (for debugging and software development) ... the final pcb will probably look completely different.

IPB Image

Full size picture: http://www.teamxecuter.com/x3dev.htm

What I see from the picture (!nothing official!):
* 2 flash chips of unknown size (one clearly larger then the other). Just an extra fail-safe feature? or do they plan to do something special with 2 'bios' chips instead of one real big. Maybe one will be used to store an .xbe ...
* all solder install methods (wire connector, male(?) headerpin and I think on the top it's a X1-style alias 'quick-solder' install system)
* connectors for the external adaptor and (optional) expansion board you could see on the design/layout image
* 2 series of 6 pins ... no idea what that is ... this board isn't final though, so it might just be debug-stuff ... or might not wink.gif

Thanks to Harel for the link

New Xecuter website + new X3 picture and WIP Bios Manager/FlashBIOS v2.27
>> Lots of new stuff from from Team Xecuter.

First of all a new color picture of the Xecuter3 prototype has been released:

IPB Image

QUOTE

I'm sure many of you are wondering about the forthcoming Xecuter 3 - or "X3" as we tend to call it these days. Well development is going strong and to give you a glimpse of what we're up to - here is a picture of our debugging and dev hardware (and before you ask no this isn't what the mod will look like heh)

A new version of the X-ecuter2 Bios Manager(info) will be released soon:
QUOTE

The very popular and much used Xecuter Bios Manager has received a facelift. A few bugs have been ironed out along with a couple of new features including much improved Xecuter Modchip detection (It can auto detect if you have a Lite or Pro fitted). Also included is an online bios.ini updater so you can keep up to date with the latest MD5 database. We expect it to be finished in the next few days - however hre's a screen shot of our current beta.

Check out the preview screenshot
IPB Image

Also a new Flashbios (based on cromwell 2.27) will be released soon with added support for Xbox v1.4 and v1.5:
QUOTE

The current version of FlashBIOS is based on the Cromwell(info) v1.8 code which as most of you know is quite buggy. The new Cromwell v2.27 fixes many problems and is so much more stable including support for the new Focus video encoder (v1.4 / v1.5 Xbox's) We're doing some final testing so you can expect it to be in our downloads section in the next few hours.

They also launched their new website:
QUOTE

After gallons of coffee and a years supply of pro plus, we are very pleased to reveal our new support site. It's still a work in progress so you may see many changes day to day - especially to the tutorials section. Please feel free to sign up and take advantage of whats on offer.

And there's some news about the Xecuter FlashX(info) v1.2 that was released some days ago already.

This is where we currently are. A few features still need fixing due to minor bugs but it's simply a time issue as opposed to difficulty. There are more features too but we haven't addressed them just yet. Bear in mind all new X3 Config Live! features to this mod will be a simple free update. If we were to guess I'd say that its about 85% completed. I can also confirm that the new case design has just begun its final development phase so we're hoping to have that ready in the first Q of 2004 also.

Please note this is not a final feature list. There will obviously be changes when it goes gold, it all depends on timescale. However if anything is left out it will be added as a free update - this also goes for features not listed, there may be even more wink.gif

We'd just like to give props to all those who have had a major input into this new design. It's taken a lot of hard work to get this far and it's been a huge group effort - thanks guys !

Not forgetting xbox-scene.com, worldxbox.co.uk and maxconsole.com for their support in collating members ideas and suggestions on what they would like to see in a new mod.

Xecuter3 Update
>> From teamxecuter.com:

After a long development process and the first announcement of features on December 5th we are pleased to tell you that the X3 project is nearing completion. The first beta versions of the mod are now in hand with final testing taking place. In the next week or so we will be shipping the beta mod to a selected few to help with final adjusments to the design ready for a "final" beta and the big launch.

As you can see from the feature list on the previous news post this is a massive advancement in the way current mods work giving you features not available on any other mod for the Xbox.

Four weeks from feature announcement to final beta stage - not bad at all smile.gif

We hope to have some pictures for you in the next day or so - we're just in the middle of optimizing the PCB design.

Have a great new year !

PS we notice Windows CE is now running with limited capability on the Xbox. Thats great news - now all we need is fully functional networking so you can hook up the Xbox to the Gamecubes BBA - now thats irony wink.gif

Team Xecuter makes own comparison chart
>> From Team Xecuter on the Xecuter3 forum:
QUOTE

As we move into 2004, the next generation of Xbox modchip is about to hit the stores. There is Xecuter3 of course and also the new Xenium from Ozxodus.
Xodus felt the need to make a comparison chart against our X2 against their new mod not too long ago (even though X2 had been out since February 2003) - so we thought we'd do our own against this Xenium that we've been playing with.

Both very good mods and each would take pride in anyones Xbox - it's all down to choice.

FlashBIOS (Cromwell) is a customized version of the Cromwell bios for distribution with the Xecuter2 modchip, it has been changed to incorporate a modchip flashing feature that requires a CD with BIOS.BIN to be inserted in the XBOX's DVD-ROM drive. Once a CD is inserted into the drive the bios looks for a BIOS.BIN file and if it is found it will flash this onto the modchip (provided it has flash support in the bios for the modchip type).

We have also included an erase / programming progress bar for you to monitorthe success of the flashing.

The BIOS is packed as 512k for those that follow our optimal CDRW/DVD install tutorial - although it is a 2x256k image.

v2.28 Update
Now has limited Focus Video support (640 x 480 - Standard AV Pack)

Many rumours we were dead heh smile.gif - We're still here and still working on new stuff. Obviousley not as fast as expected but RL issues kinda overtake mod stuff sometimes. X3 stuff: there are a couple of bugs with USB and some software issues that need resolving - we want to make sure the Bios release is final and not needing a dozen fixes. We're also in the middle of setting up tooling for a cool Xbox Case style clip on device for the external controller. Also been playing with the X2 bios - some bug fixes and a couple of features that were tinkered with over a couple of doobies at the weekend. May release it over next week or so if we get time. Will try to keep the scene updated with new stuff if its relevant - now off to hook up my trusty G5 smile.gif

Xecuter3 (X3) update
>> From teamxecuter.com:
QUOTE

We first announced the features of the mod in December and now its April. Yes we know this sucks and we know it's become long overdue so thanks to the usual haters who continue to gloat as they bring this up in forums time and time again.

The fact is the project isn't going as smoothly as we hoped. The only thing we can promise is that we are working very hard to get this finished. We have no excuses for the delays, however the only people who seem to comment are the gloaters and fanboys who revel in repeating time and time again that we are indeed delayed and by doing so have lied and cheated everybody ???

It is wrong to compare the development with other so called "4th Generation" mods. This is not a simple mod design with a modified Cromwell(info) OS (sources?) It's a highly advanced hardware project that has to be absolutely accurate in its operation. The bios is the biggest thing we've ever done with more features than anything ever released before and we are sure you'll be satisfied.

We don't normally discuss current development issues but here are what's being worked on as we speak:

> Bios compression algorithm requires heavy debug
> Adding more features to X3 Config Live than originally documented
> Need to resolve issues with internal flashing controls
> Debugging webserver support
> Development of newly designed External controller
> Adding support for Backup Rom programming via PC
> Development of extra Cromwell function (source codes to be released)
> Development of new FlashX(info) Tool
> Development of new X3 Bios Manager with Web Server Support

Bottom line is we have no release date. If the delays have upset you then we apologize. If the haters feel the need to bash us or invent more silly conspiracy theories then go right ahead. We are still here and we are still working. We feel absolutely sure X3 will be worth the wait. Thank you to the scene in general for your ongoing support.

Due to popular demand here is another sneak peak at some of the X3 Config Live features. This video shows the new color picker system that we have integrated so you can easily change all your flubber and X logo colors. All sources have been coded to accept RGB values. Please also note the camera angle selector. You can choose between 15 different camera angles for the flubber animation - or you can set it as random smile.gif

The new FTP server (both static and DHCP with Boost mode) and the new webserver have also been included and tested successfully.
Download the Video Here (4Mb)  http://dwl2.xbox-scene.com/video/X3Flubber.wmv

Also in advanced production is the new X3 PC System (replacing X2BM). Using many new methods you will also be able to completely control the X3 mod and Config Live features from your PC - we are also giving you more advanced bios setup options than ever seen before and also our own new ISO building functions. Many more features are being included which "competition" forbids us to reveal at this stage - However you have seen the 4th Generation mods that control your Mod and Your Xbox - however we feel X3 is a new 5th Generation - as we also completely control the Bios from the Xbox AND from the PC - on the fly !

Development is now at a fast pace as all of the bugs mentioned last week have been resolved - fun times ahead !

Thanks to Jive for telling me about the news.

X3 Switch Prototype out of factory
>> From TeamXecuter.com:
QUOTE

We are always committed to quality at Xecuter. No flimsy PCB and poor quality manufacturing, no solder your own wires to the mod, no having to make your own adapters etc

We posted a while ago ( http://www.teamxecuter.com/modules.php?nam...pic&t=12047 ) our prototype design for the external switch module. Well it came off the production line today and here are the first exclusive photographs.

Please note the adapter will be an optional extra due to its cost (of course the X3 will be complete with a generic switch as per X2 series - we figured we'd make something that much more professional for those that wanted it)

Final design will include infra red sensor and also LCD outputs.

Team Xecuter: Backups on 1.6 - No Solder Solution Possible
>> From teamxecuter.com:
QUOTE

Not sure if we made it clear in the last news post but the X2.3 mod worked just fine on the v1.6 Xbox. Original test was with the 5838 MS Bios. New update is that we have now also tested with a crudly patched Bios to boot unsigned code however we are currently reverse engineering the Xcalibur code to implement into the X2 / X3 sources which will take some time.

We're trying to get our hands on older version of X2 (its been a while heh) to test if they still work due to the re-emergance of LFRAME. Will also be interesting to test out the cheapmod method - will grab some SST's later today from the workshop and do some more testing for those that have been requesting - however i'm sure many of you can test this stuff yourselves. Our coders have now received their 1.6 Boxes so they are splitting their time between X3 work and 1.6 work, be assured we are working on it.

Also looking at an easier 1.6 fix and a pretty cool no solder solution (!) - watch this space.

Xecuter3 news and updated featurelist
>> From teamxecuter.com:
QUOTE

We are happy to present a revised feature list of X3 - the most feature packed BIOS and mod hardware ever designed for the Xbox.
As you can see we have now added full I/O support for LCD as well as expanding the i2c bus to support LCD modules that require only 4 wires - we will also do some kind of bundle deal where the LCD would cost only an extra $10 to $20.
The mod is designed to give you a hassle free install (we provide everything you require - no need to solder extra wires for extra functions such as LCD support or any switches you may want to use)
Not only is X3 powerful - it’s also a lot of fun to use. Those who like toying with their bios will love X3 Config Live.

The first round of beta versions were shipped today to our core developers. Once we have finalized any changes X3 will ship to our public beta list which we have carefully selected over the last couple of weeks.
There is so much more we are going to add to the bios in future - as we have always done for you in the past, not to mention the expansive windows based software that is also being developed to make your mod experience even better. Currently we are finishing the addition of v1.6 support to our BIOS which would of course be of some use to those who want to play games / run unsigned code.

More Xecuter3 news and 500 X3 giveaway
>> From teamxecuter.com:
QUOTE

We have received a number of emails asking what the differences were between our first preview feature list in December and the one we posted over the weekend. Here is a synopsis of what we've had time to do over the last couple of months.
* added a full I/O bus for LCD and other new hardware
* expanded the i2c Bus to accept LCD screens (only 4 wires)
* added full DHCP and static IP support to both the ftp server and webserver functions
* fully compatible with Qwix(info) & Super Fast FTP Boost Mode (you wont get faster!)
* added webserver (we will expand the webserver greatly over the coming months)
* designed a new external programmer
* manufactured new pogo adapter
* designed and manufactured "PRO" external adapter (pictures shown in previous news)
* added extra X3 Config Live functions
* fixed countless bugs from first beta
* improved the design footprint

We've also spent some time redesigning the hardware to use a much more secure CPLD controller - to protect our userbase from poor quality clones which have plagued the market recently due to ozXodus using an easy to hack CPLD.
We are currently finishing up the final hardware design, adding some LCD stuff to the Bios, adding some new webserver functions, finishing some ftp work and a few cosmetic bits and bobs. We will be monitoring our customer base closely and will work hard to resolve an bugs or any extra features that you may require. Updates will be fast and forthcoming.

We're hoping to get a final OK on the software over the weekend and final hardware by next weekend. Then we will ship to xbox-scene and others on our preview list (do not request to be added to this list please - its already closed) for a final review / beta before we mass produce to the end user.

We can announce that we will be giving away 500 free X3 to the scene as a thank you for your patience in this long project. We are sure when you finally get to use the mod you will understand why we spent so much time on its quality and feature packed performance.

A few updates from Team Xecuter
>> From teamxecuter.com:
QUOTE

We expect to ship the first sample of X3 to the main review sites sometime this week (about f***ing time you say ? heh) the mod we first planned is so different from the one we have actually ended up with - hence the stupidly long development time. We have a changelog somewhere that adds a different feature or change of hardware on average every few days - maybe it will get released sometime for someone's amusement smile.gif We're very pleased with the results and are already working on ideas for future software updates and add-ons. After the mod has been beta'd by those on our test list (about 30 ppl - we estimate around a week to gather data) - we should have enough info to make any last minute changes to the software and will then be ready for a final release. We are working towards the end of June - try not to hold us to that date but its looking good. Only 6 months later than we originally planned - but at least we won the bet that it would be out before Half Life 2 tongue.gif

There have been some nice additions to the Bios and there is some awesome work on the pc app project. We expect the app to be in full swing after the mod has been released. We also expect regular bios updates giving many new features.

The first release may not include v1.6 support - the priority right now is to get everything working nicely - be assured that we will be finishing work on the v1.6 either on release or shortly after (a simple bios update - mod hardware will be compatible).

We are also planning on running a cvs for our Cromwell(info) based FlashBIOS. We'd like to see the scene develop a bios/app that is specific to controlling modchip hardware and can be used on any mod (not just Xecuter). All contributors will have the opportunity to win $ thousands in prize money and hardware. All code will be 100% public and will give an insight as to how a linux kernel/app can control a modchip. More info on this later once X3 is in the wild.

As a last note we recommend you check this Xbox Customization Utility coded by PeerX - useful for those who want to paint up / skin their Xbox. http://contentdownload.com/

X3 - Public Betas Ready
>> New info from Team Xecuter:

The first batch of public betas have just rolled off the press. Hopefully by next week we will have a bunch of feedback and reviews to help us complete any finishing touches. You will notice two switch designs. The black PCB design is a rough draft of what will be shipped with the mod. The more professional design will be an optional extra (and will include built in infra red support). Of course you also have the option to not use any switches at all as the mod is completely software controlled. The external modules are for those like a few bells and whistles smile.gif

X3 Rox My Box challenge - voting begins and winners announced
>> From Team Xecuter:
QUOTE

What can we say. What an absolutley stunning response to the X3 Rox My Box Challenge. Never before have we seen such response and enjoyment out of an Xbox Scene competition. Such fun to have a weekend where a few hundred people pulled together to have a few laughs without any drama. The competition proved to us and to everyone the level of support that Xecuter has on a global scale - and it also showed the kind of people involved in the scene - absolutley nuts smile.gif
The original plan was to give 10 Beta versions of the X3 mod to those that wouldn't normally get the opportunity to test a pre release modchip. However that figure went out of the window in the first hour. We had over 400 picture submissions and the thread had over 40,000 views over the first 24 hours. Some of the pictures were imaginative, some crazy, some funny as hell and some down right dirty smile.gif

* Our main objective was to get a topless girl on the M$ campus wearing an xbox-scene.com T-Shirt and holding up the X3 sign. We thought it would be tough to get just one of these shots but in fact we got 2. The prize money for these shots was $1000 to the best one. Now we can go about this two ways, the public can vote for the winner OR both entrants can decide if they would like $500 each and an X3 mod. This keeps things nice and fair but it is entirely up to the two that submitted the pictures. So if MRFAUST & SIRUSDV can send me a private message using this site[teamxecuter.com] - let me know what you would like to do.

* We also have a few "Instant Winners". These are our personal favourites and also they are actual location requests that we made in the #xecuter3 channel. The winners are: Bamelementch, blackdevl, callit, donor, gcskate, keystroke, microchip, quest, rh387, scrollio, shadox, thebishop, xcel, marmite.
Well done to you guys. If you can send me a private message on this site[teamxecuter.com] with your mailing address I will get things moving for you right away.

* The other three categories are "Adult", "Landmarks" and "Funny / Others". You can vote for your favorite pictures and the Top 10 will win. Some users have submitted multiple entries - their votes will be counted. We have anti spamming scripts in place and you can only vote once per picture per ip. If we see anyone trying to spoof the voting that picture will be deleted. The judges decision is final (i.e. Xecuter) and we don't want any begging or moaning in the channels please. Remember this competition was/is for fun (and it most certainley was) let's see if we can continue the good spirit that you have all shown over the last couple of days. There are more competitions to follow shortly - some crazy and some serious and technical - we will cater to everyone.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Xbox-Scene, Avalaunch(info), XboxMediaCenter(info) & Xbins. Our co-operation and freindship will continue to drive the scene forward "ONE SCENE"
We also have a list of serious beta Testers. You guys know who you are and you can xpect your mods to arrive within the next week. We appreciate your input and support.
NOW GET VOTING !!!

Xecuter3 beta shipped
>> From Team Xecuter:
QUOTE

We are pleased to inform you that the first samples of X3 have shipped to our list of "preferred" testers. This version has no i/o support and will include about 90% of the final Bios functions. We will be counting on a great deal of feedback to see success stories and also to see what bugs and requests for change need to be addressed.

The final X3 will now have 16 I/O ports to support a multitude of future add-ons. We have developed a Parallel LCD interface which will require no soldering and will simply be plug n play. This will be deveoped in time for the final version. We are also currently developing a 320x200 LCD system - stay tuned!
We have also successfully implemented the new HDD upgrade function. It's so fast and simple to use - boot X3 with new HDD, select New HDD Upgrade (you can also set your LBA48 settings on the fly) - Your drive is partitioned and ready to FTP at upto 11,000 kb/sec in less than 5 seconds (This is included in the beta trials).
The hardware info section now has an Xbox version checker & video encoder checker - including the new Xcaliber.
Another new feature is the User Selectable Startup Logo. Instead of it saying XECUTER3 or MS you can have any logo you wish - n color too! Now the great thing about our new version is that before you had to manually convert the bmp image to raw data using some dos app - our new bios will convert it to raw format on the fly so all you need to upload to your xbox is xecuter3.bmp smile.gif
The new FTP Bios Loader is brilliant. You simply FTP into your Xbox - select the admin folder and you have 4 options - 2048k, 1024k, 512k and 256k. If you have a 1MB (1024k) bios which is the size of the X3 bios - simply open up the 1024k folder. You then get two more folders Banks1234 and Banks5678. Choose which bank set you wish to store the bios and upload. Your bios is flashed and verified in seconds smile.gif
These are just a few of the many, many USEFUL and FUN features you will be playing with.

Xecuter3 beta sample preview
>> I received an Xecuter3 beta sample about 1week ago and I've been able to test the latest "X3 OS" beta builds.

What can you do in the software so far (keep in mind it's beta ... so more features may be available at launch):
+ 'X3 Live' - editing your X3 bios on-the-fly directly on your Xbox (screenshot).

user posted image

You can enable/disable: Autostart X3 OS or dashboard, In game reset, debug bios, XBLive disable, No reset on eject, LBA mode, dashboard boot priority (fully flexible: filenames, bootdrive and order (max 4)), clock error-check (screenshot).

user posted image

You can also change all Xbox Logo colors, flubber colors, flubber animation or use full color custom boot up logo. Disable or enable the start-up flubber animation, wireframe flubber and TM logos and choose the power-led color while you're in the X3 software.
Quicklaunch allows you to fastly boot a chosen executable from HD in the X3 sofware using the trigger button.
+ Network support: FTP with avalaunch compatible boost-mode and http (web).
+ Flash chip per bank from CD/DVD/HDD/FTP/HTTP (screenshot).

user posted image

The X3 software uses 1MB ... but it ofcourse already includes the X3 bios (hacked MS bios).
+ Bios naming and launching as you want(screenshot).

user posted image

You can select your bios bank from software (via X3 OS) or with the hardware dips on the external adaptor.
+ Backup and restore (on chip or on FTP) (screenshot)

and modify all EEPROM settings (video region, video mode, Fan speed, Date/Time). Also LCD settings (doesn't work yet in beta) and password protection (screenshot).

+ The X3 has a backup bios (256k) on separated chip. So if anything goes wrong with the default flashchip you can always use this to boot.
+ And some other specific features in the X3 software: cold reboot IGR, sreenshots, ...

I've also finally been able to make some High Definition pictures of the chip. Keep in mind this is beta hardware, the final will probably look a bit different.

3 big pics:
http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/4/xecuter3/xsx3_1.jpg
http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/4/xecuter3/xsx3_2.jpg
http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/4/xecuter3/x3beta2.jpg

The X3 beta I got requires 2 more headerpins then a X2.x mod (LPC #13 and #14). There is also a plug with the wires for D0, HDD activity (optional), LAN activity (optional) and 2 wires for eject/reset detection (will probably be detected from software in final). If you press power button, Xbox will boot with onboard bios (modchip off), if you press power+eject for 1+ sec it will boot backup bios, if you press power-button for 1+ sec it will boot bios on X3 selected by dip switches. (note that this might change in X3 final - short press on power will have modchip enabled and 1+ sec press modchip disabled).
The wire-adaptor changed on the X3 ... the wires now link to a headerpin, so even if you do a wire-install you have a headerpin and you can easily swap modchips.

Team Xecuter told us this will be added to final/retail X3:
* New Linux based backup bios with many new features
* PC app to take complete control of your xbox and modchip
* 16 bit I/O. Many ports open for expansion.
* 320x200 LCD support
* Optional solderless install adaptor
* X3 final will be available without external switch (you can only select bank via software-control then), with a simple external switch (similar to the one shipped with beta) or with the pro switch (the 'design'/funky version)
* If you boot from any other bios - you can switch to different X3 banks from any dash - TX will release all sources for dashboards to add this.
* And many new features added to the "X3 OS". The X3 software and bios can be updated ... so new features can be added whenever TX wants.

Our friends over at MoDorDie.com have compiled a review of the X3 mod - check it out by clicking here. http://modordie.com/X3Review.htm

The beta program was a runaway success. Within 4 days all bugs were fixed and the majority of feature requests were implemented. The final 16Bit IO design is currently being approved with new libs written for XBMC v1.xx. The final version will be shipped to XBMC team and a few selected deveopers to put the final touches to the mod.

Other news is the we have now officially ended production of all X2.3 Pro and X2.3 Lite Plus modchips. X2.3 Lite will continue however with a new and improved no solder adapter also available. We expect these to start shipping to our resellers within the next week. The X3 no solder adapter is also in production and more will be revealed about that later.

The X3 win32 application has also made great progress, we expect completion in the next couple of weeks along with the X3 Pro External Controller (P.E.C) which is in the process of having all its infra red capabilities implemented into the design. We also have a new design Xbox Case which we hope to be on the shelves during the summer.

Please also note that all X2 Rox My Box challenge ©WINNARS will have their mods shipped shortly.

Apologies for not many updates in the last couple of weeks. We can tell you that X3 hardware is all finished and now in production at the factory. Our new X2 No Solder adapter (Xapter) is now in stores and you will find is a much higher quality device than its predecessors (no messy wires soldering pins together, higher grade of contacts used, higher quality moulding process, professional packaging etc). Also we will update you on the correct way to install X2.3 on v1.6 machines when we get a little time over the weekend.

We have a few extras being added to the X3 Bios and our 1.6 / X3 win32 app / Linux development is in full swing too.

All X3 Rox My Box winnars will now get the Final X3 with an extra bonus - a free 20x4 LCD screen as a thank you for your patience while we've ironed out a few bugs.

QUOTE

As most of you are aware the X2.3B Lite Plus and the X2.3B Pro were discontinued in order for us to streamline our manufacturing process in preperation for the launch of X3. However we have received many requests for a no-solder adapter for those who are purchasing the massivley successful X2.3B Lite. As far as we were concerned the best solution currently for a seperate add-on was the Chameleon adapter designed by Xodus a while back. We attempted to source a large quantity of these to pass onto our resellers, however it proved impossible without having to buy a bundled modchip. Naturally we made our own version - the Xapter (inventive name lol). There was no real need to change the basic design as it was fine the way it was - so kudos to Xodus for that. As design quality is always of paramount importance at Xecuter there were a couple of things we wern't too happy with - the untidy mould process and shoddy hand soldered wire from ground to the d0 loop. We have illustrated comparisons between the Chameleon and the Xapter design / build process. The Xapter is sold seperatley and should work with all LPC based mods (except X3) - you should be able to buy it without having to also buy a particular modchip.

QUOTE

We have updated the Linux bios that we distribute with X2 mods to co-incide with the release of the X2.6. As you can see we have added a couple more features that will be of use.

v2.6 Update:
* Updated Cromwell(info) from v2.3.2
* HDTV / Svideo Support for Conexant / Focus (v1.0 - v1.5)
* Composite video support for Xcalibur (v1.6)
* New Unlock / Lock HDD feature - works on v1.0 - v1.6
* New Load Bios from HDD feature

We have tested this on all boxes from v1.0 to v1.6 - however we prefer to get feedback from the public in order to jump on any unforseen errors.
Please test loading bios from hdd and flashing / loading bios from disc and flashing / unlock / lock hdd / video outpout reports (especially for v1.6).
For v1.6 the bios is COMPOSITE VIDEO compatible only.
As usual - even tho we have taken great care in this build and tested it ourselves we cannot guarantee it will work for you - so we will not be held responsible for a stuff xbox yadd yada yadda
Bios will boot on all mods but will flash X2.x Mods only. Unlock / Lock should work fine with all other mods too.
Once we are satisfied with the stability we will of course release the full sources.
We look forward to your feedback in this thread:

Quick update for news watchers:
* Finished porting our final X3 code to Actel. Spent a sleepless night in our workshop testing the crap out of it and everything is looking great except for one bug which we are trying to nail. Apart from this we are pretty much go for production - we may miss our deadline by a couple of days - we'll know more by Friday and will keep you posted as usual.
* Added support for nghtshd's XBpartition tool to X3 by request. Now can be toggled in X3 Config live if you wish to read the partition tables from HDD as opposed to the set bios versions.
* We will be releasing a new X2 bios for our loyal X2 customers as soon as we've finished X3 work. This will support v1.6, XBTool & XBpartition.
* After scouring the forums we have taken the advice of various users and made some changes to the X2.6 PCB. Some components and connectors have been shifted around to give a more optimum design.
* Added HDD & LAN LED to X2.6 - HDD/LAN/D0 connector same as X3 for easey future upgrade.
* Updated the X2 programmer. Its a lot smaller and leaner. Tested on 2.3B and 2.6 using WinXP, Win2K, WinmE, Win98SE, Win95 with X2 Bios manager v2.2. Also working on adding support to this programmer to be able to flash the X3 also - not tested yet, we will let you know.
* We will be supplying the no solder reset / eject plug that will be used on X3 for the MS kernel functions and also for the Infra Red Mod addon - free of charge with every X3 supplied.
* FlashBIOS v2.6.0 has gone gold. We have made some changes since the beta version we released last week. This will come pre flashed to the X2.6
* FlashBIOS v3.0.0 is now in development for X3. A basic version will be supplied with X3, however we plan on adding a whole suite of linux features to this bios in the near future thanks to our new member who is quite proficent in linux.

We are working hard day and night to finish this project - as well as working on many other projects which you will benefit from in the near future. We'll post more updates as and when necessary.

* X2.6 will be in stores next week. All connectors and installation methods will be 1:1 the same as X3 - so those who may wish to upgrade to X3 later will simply plug and play.
* X3 Linux Bios (FlashBIOS v3.0.0) will support flash via webserver. We are also looking to implement other features such as FTP. We are still finalizing the code but it should be ready in the next few days.
* X3 Bios is currently at build 1702. There will probably be another 2-3 builds by the time it hits the stores in a couple of weeks time.
* The final X3 LCD lib has been passed onto the XBMC people.
* We have more goodies to offer once X3 hits the stores, things we've been working on out of the public eye - watch this space.
* v1.6 Boxes are now hitting Europe. They are on sale in Sweden and the UK. This is confirmed from our own purchases.

X3 custom LCD (XLCD) info and FlashBIOS v2.6.0 sourcecode
>> From teamxecuter.com:

* As we have now finished the X3 design we move onto our own custom made LCD designs. Due to our enormous manufacturing capabilities we have expanded our investment into the LCD market and are now able to custom make an LCD screen to perfect "fitted-to-xbox" specifications.
As a test run we designed the PCB to simply include our own custom made adapter which will make the LCD screen absolutley solder free. Here is a picture of the first version - of course the final will be absolutley different - this was for factory setup purposes only and to see that everything worked correctly - which it did first time. Watch this space for more "XLCD" news :-)

New Xecuter3 release info *updated*
>> From Team Xecuter (on forums): http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=...wforum&f=46
QUOTE

* When will X3 be released?
Our original planned date was August 23rd however we came across a hardware bug when porting our cpld code to a more secure device.
Everything is now complete and finished. Production has started and we hope to have X3 on the shelves before the end of September.
We apologise for any delays but there is no point in releasing the mod half assed after all the effort / testing / development time that has been put into this.
Thank you for your patience.

* What is supplied with X3? (RRP price of around $59 USD)
- X3 Modchip
- External Switch (Facia Change Design)
- Solderless adapter for reset / eject and future IR addon
- New wires to pin header adapter (EVERYONE will now have a pin header even if they solder with wires) :-)
- Pin Header (With pin 4 and pin 16 removed - you must manually remove 5v (pin 6) if installing to a v1.6) - Now impossible to plug mod onto pin header the wrong way around due to the header Block on the X3 having one of the pins blocked)
- Sticky pad to fix to the side of the Xbox case if using wires to pin header adapter

* X3 Optional Extras?
- XLCD Screen (Solderless)
- X3 Switch Pro
- Switch Facias (Different colors / logos)
- X3 Xapter (Solderless Adapter for v1.0 - v1.5)
- Other projects not yet announced wink.gif

*UPDATE* We also got a picture of the latest X3 with the actel chip:

Xecuter 3
Production started last week. We are on schedule to release before the end of the month.

All IC's have now been programmed and prepped. This week involves PCB assembly, plastic moulding production, IC printing and quality assurance.
We take our production and quality process very very seriousley. To give you an idea of what is involved in this process we took some pictures of the factory:
http://www.teamxecuter.com/factory.htm
The X3 Bios has been going through some final adjustments. We are now up to Build 1729. To give you an idea of how many changes we have made since our official beta program, the last bios tested publicly was Build 1463 Smile
Here are some latest entries from our changelog
[1729]
* lcd backlight setting now configurable
* tweaked lcd output a little bit
* lcd welcome message (default: "www.teamxecuter.com") is now changeable
* colorized new flubber/xlogo code
* added several new flubber/xlogo toggles
* fixed bug with temp. display on 1.6 when displaying messageboxes in x3 config live
* now supporting nghtshd's partitioning tool - successfully tested, partitioning has to be enabled in x3 config live to make it use a saved partition (new option located under disk tools / new hdd upgrade)

We have given our Cromwell(info) based Xecuter FlashBIOS(info) a few tweaks in the last week too. Added a full webserver (DHCP and Static) so you can now flash your X2 or X3 over a network. Currently adding FTP and some other goodies.
Quote: "they [xecuter] are lying about adding webserver to cromwell. cromwell isnt multitasking.. its too hard for them.. it took me 4 months" - Franz
I guess it took us about 5 days in between other X2.6 and X3 work.
Download latest build here.

SO much work involved at the moment - but we're getting there. Thanks for your patience.

Xecuter2.6 Lite Sample (pictures)
>> I received a sample of the Xecuter2.6 Lite some days ago from MrModchips.com. A review will follow later (still have to post some other reviews before that), but here are some pictures already:

The full package: X2.6L modchip, external adapter, headerpin, wire-to-headerpin-adapter, wire to link external adapter with modchip, D0/E/P wire adapter, 5V v1.6 wire adapter, adhesive sticker.

user posted image

The X2.6L modchip and the external adapter. The external adaptor has a status LED and switches for: bank selection, enable/disable flash protection, chip enable/disable, LED enable/disable. The modchip has a separated pin (front) and solderpad (back) for 5v on Xbox v1.6. The headerpin is 2x8 (like X3 will have, not like older X2.x or other modchips)
