and thus install media player for xbox. I want to use it like a dvd player

Any Kind Of Mod Yes Soft Mod Or Mod Chip Then You Will Be Able To Play Anything With Xboxmediaplayer Or Xboxmediacenter

XBMP is not a linux application, so you would need a chip/exploit for that. The Xbox-linux can be installed via savegame exploit as well.
