I was just testing to see what brand of CD's the xbox could read by burning music and seeing if the xbox could read it. Just wondering, how does the xbox know if the CD is burned or if it is a retail one. If there is a way, can you simulate it using Nero.

this is totally off of one experience with burned cd's and an xbox:

my brother has an xbox from a little over a year ago, and when you try to put in burned cds, it does not read. he has a phillips dvd-rom.
my cousin just got an xbox for christmas this year, and when he puts in burnt cds, it reads. he has a samsung dvd-rom.

i am assuming it has to do with the dvd-rom drive and not that the xbox can tell if the cd is burnt or not.

I think it's because only the samsung CAN play cd-r's. Except for some of the tweeks that you can do to the other drives....(which are touchy cause I bitched up my thompson doing one) they can't play them at all.

Yes, Samsung DVD-Rom is the Best for this time.

thats not true. when i burned slayers it said that it would not %100 read unless it was on a cd/rw. i burn on crappy cd-r's and at the fastest speed, and my box had no prob reading them, even bios cd's with just 1 256k bios file.

What drive do you have? Odds are that you've got a Phillips or a Samsung.

I haven't been able to get my Thomson to read a single CD-R I've thrown at it. Some people have reported that Acer CD-Rs work well, but I haven't seen any at any store so I've been unable to verify this on my Xbox.

Personally my advice to people with Thompson drives is to give up with CD-Rs and invest in a bigger hard-drive or a Samsung drive..

yea i have a samsung, and so far its been really good to me.
