my friend let me get his xbox and told me i can have it for $35 but the only thing is that he said it tends to freeze every so often . but then it will resume playing would that be anything minor. any thoughts ? also if it helps it has a thompson but i yet to figure out what version i have

Well, if it's an unmodded xbox, I'd guess that it's the DVD drive. Those Thompsons suck. It probably has a hard time reading a disc and so it pauses until it can read it. It's pretty easy to put a different DVD drive in there. You just have to buy one off the Buy/Sell forums. (I'd recommend buying a Phillips or a Samsung)

The thompson drives suck period!.. no DVD cleaner will make a difference from what i have seen

i aint gonna sell it forward im jus gonna tell him that its not repairable and give him $10 bucks and say i need it for parts. i know it can be fixed ill jus buy a new dvdrom.maybe next time

rizzo, if you have another xbox you could just install all your backups of your original games to a hd unlock it swap it into this box ( after tsop flash mod) and play them off this xbox just use it for backups and you really wont need the dvd drive..
