Got a PAL Xbox 1.4 running in NTSC, X-BIT with Xecuter 4979 (also tried 7981 but no difference),
using RGB-cable. (when using composite the colors are alright, but itīs still fucked).

I was playing around a bit with the settings in XBMP, changing both Region and Resolutions to see what happened.

When starting XBMP the box was in NTSC-J (i think), at least it was in NTSC, i tried the 1280 and 1920 resolutions, but then changed back to NTSC-J/720x480 and rebooted.

Now the screen is completely green and kind of "grainy" all the time.
If the X-BIT is enabled it will lockup at the "X"-screen with the "xecuter2"-text under it.
When the chip is disabled i can play the games but itīs all GREEEN. yuck.
The box gives no errorcodes or flashing red/green at all so it canīt be too bad?

Could this be caused by forcing the box using HD-resolutions in some strange way that only should work with HD-cable?

Try the enigmah video switch. There's a pinned thread all about it.
Rule of thumb: If you don't know what it does: DON'T TOUCH IT!

Hope this works for you
