I have given up on ftping into my xbox. I wonder if Best Buy's "crossover" cables actually work. The colors on each each end of the connectors are indeed different, but I cant connect to the xbox or to another pc.
BUT ANYWAYS:
I got evolution x and xboxcopy onto the hard drive without ftping and copied a couple games over. If I could upgrade the hard drive without ftping, I wouldnt ever need to ftp.
Is there anyway for me to prepare a hard drive in my pc or just program it from a boot disk in my xbox?

stop FTP-ing ...
and ping first ...
if the ping works you know that your cross cable and your ip-configuration are correct ...
if your xbox has ip-adres 192.168.0.2 then go to a dos prompt on your PC and type :
ping 192.168.0.2 and an enter
when you got time-out -> either your ip configuration or cable are not correct
when you got a reply the connection is at least there

What he said.
Evox settings:
SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = Yes
Ip = 192.168.0.2
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway = 192.168.0.1
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0
PC settings:
Settings---Contol Panel---Network
Specify an IP address: ON (circle filled)
IP: 192.168.0.1
Gateway: 255.255.255.0
Then try what rooicity said, then, if it works, you should be on your way.
BTW, make sure you click SAVE AND EXIT in the evox settings screen, sometimes I forget and get pissed and wonder why it didn't work.

I can ping my own computer's address..no others, not the xbox or another pc. I've done all that addressing of the xbox and pc..thats not the problem...its prolly the cables.
Anyways:
I would much rather not need to ftp. Any ideas on upgrading without ftping?

The evox install disc can do it for you.
