Full Version: How Do I Dismount/mount D: ?

Maybe somebody knows whether it is possible to dismount d: from dvd-rom and mount to
a particular folder on the harddrive via MXM-actionscript ????
The intention is:
I'd like to playback dvd-video which i copied to hdd with dvd2xbox.
At the moment, theres no mediaplayer that supports fully functional dvd-playback from a video_ts folder
with menus, language settings ... not only playing the .vob-files. dry.gif
There is DVDx2 which plays fix from dvd-rom d:
So the idea is mounting d: to the video_ts folder and then launch DVDx2 and all via actionscript.
I know, there's the mount command, but i guess messing around with d: which is the default dvd-rom letter
might be the problem.

Thanx,
maz

The problem is that the program will remap the partitions as it sees fit (in this case, remapping the D: to the DVD/CD ROM drive), so using the MOUNT command won't help you there.

I'm really surprised XBMC/P doesn't "do" discs yet. If I wasn't working on MXM, I'd probably revamp their UI and add auto-launching for DVD/VCD/SVCD discs. They have all the technical stuff to do it, yet it seems to not be a priority for them, which is a shame. Those two things are my only complaint about the program, as a media player.

I think most people would be far more interested in a better, more consistent UI and auto-playing DVD/VCD/SVCD discs than dashboard and FTP Server features.

You're right.
Thanks for your reply,
great work on MXM!

Damn.. BJ.. that busted me up..

If MXM is a Dashboard, then why is it that all the recent post from you are about
all the new skinning features, and actionscript stuff, instead of about
the usability and stability of MXM as a dashboard...

MXM is a wonderful piece of work... even with that said... your vision as the dev.. is differnet from my vision as the user, of what MXM should be... You seem to like having the ability to have super flexible skinning capability.. me, the skinning is not important, as I have a place to put a preview video...

Just says that the devs of XBMP/XBMC.. obviously have a different vision of what the app should be then what your vision of it is...

Lastly.. very many thank you's that both apps/dashes are open source and the user is free to modify them to her/his liking....

Umm he revamped the whole UI, as in thats alot of work, I 'm pretty sure that goes hand in hand with usability, and stuff will be configured from within the dash...
Stability, umm I think if you look in the pinned topic he has fixes for many things in there on the latest WIP...
And well unlike some others, BJ has been nice enough to build a language into his dash (actionscript) and keep his dash open-source, so that people who want to learn to develop, or know how to but do not have a XDK can develop things for the Xbox...

Now then that last remark effects peoples opinion of MXM and they consider it a Power User's Dash, but with the new UI in place and the internal config. coming up with the next release, I think that should make it as easy as EvoX to setup and run but more powerful than any other when it comes to what you can actually do if you are a Power User...

Yuyu said it best.

Honestly... there is a "vision" as to how these pieces fit together, so I find mself treading lightly when implementing some things, while tearing out and starting fresh with others. Skin features make MXM stand out, and audio-visual impact is very important to many users (including myself and my family). ActionScript is the key to a LOT of nice things, for the user.... some of the scripts that have been done so far are simply incredible, and I don't think there's another dashboard script language as capable and flexible. Besides Tetris, the scripts so far have been tremendously useful from a practical standpoint, IMO. The System UI, combined with ActionScripts will make for a very kick-ass file manager and configuration system.

As for stability... I'm working on it. I'm also turning my attention to performance issues on the start up. The menu cache may get transformed and become invisible to the user soon. FTP issues are something ALL dashes have had... but now MXM has tools that will hopefully help me debug problems I can't recreate here on either of my Xboxes.
