Take that all you southern and western folks that enjoy 50 degree weather in the winter.

In Ohio, we get snow, freezing rain, wind chills of -20 degrees, and 0 degree temperatures.

And our schools would still be open. But then again, in MN, we have approximately 1 plow/salt truck for every 3 cars on the road here..... wink.gif

hmm...in NC this is the third day off of school...snow plows came last night and cleaned off the roads...guess we'll have school tomorrow

heh me too, i think it was -46C and it got upped to -54 with windchill... damn that's cold. Still had to go to school.. had many friends who, when they unplugged their cars, the extension cord literally snapped in half because of the cold ohmy.gif

I know what their means. The question was referring to unplugging their cars. laugh.gif

Oh, lol.

When it gets really cold.. ie, Canada/ Northern American States.. people plug their cars into outdoor outlets so that the battery is not drained overnight, from the cold. There is an electrical socket that pokes out of the grill area that is plugged in.

I guess it's normal to me, but not to everyone tongue.gif

(and think, it was cold enough to freeze an extension cord and make it snap!)
ocojaa
That's just crazy...but very cool.

I could have used that a month or so ago before I got a new battery for my car.

ha...nope. Here in good ole Wake County we get tomorrow off, too.

It doesnt exactly drain the battery, it freezes the acid and electrolytes and the current uh, doesnt circulate in ice, so plugging it in prevents from freezing. U can boost a battery thats frozen (plug some cables from a running battery to frozen battery and get it running again) instead of getting a new battery.
weber1305
Here in South Dakota it hasnt got over 0F for over a week and then windchill has been below 20F for a long time. We've had school every damn day and the damn school needs to turn the heat up! It's so cold, i hate winter!!
Towelie13
laugh.gif Plugging your car doesn't do shit for the battery...

it's a block heater wich keeps the engine block (containing the oil) from freezing...
the really helps the engine to start up since oil in freezing temps becomes thick
brahm2
Heh, shows how much I know about cars rolleyes.gif

All I know is that plugging in battery in winter = good smile.gif

In my case I had to get a new battery, it wouldn't hold a charge in cold weather/overnight.

We've hijacked this thread quite nicely... biggrin.gif
