Hi all.
I have encountered a slight problem.
I am burning backups of my movie dvds, using dvd shrink to copy them, and for some reason the xbox refuses to play them. They play fine in the standalone dvd player, and evox even recognises that it is a video.
I even bought a dvd kit, and tried to play it through the ms dash, but i get the same black screen.
Some earlier dvds i backed up from the same season (CSI) work though. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

I am using DVD Shrink 3.xx to copy the dvds, and using nero as the burning program. This is indeed a very strange problem.

Just as a side note, the first 4 dvds i burnt work in both the xbox and the standalone player , the last 4 i burnt only work in the standalone player.

My xbox has a phillips drive.

when recoding with dvd shrink are you still keeping the region settings as per the original disk, as the MS dvd player is quite picky with different region dvd's

OK i will try burn another one with region settings left the same, but all the discs i did (even the ones that do actually work) have no region settings on them anymore

AHA! Thank you so much! It seems that after i upgraded to the later version of nero was when the discs started messing up.
Now im gonna give this guide a go!
Cheers, Trent8778, you are a superstar!

using nero to burn a dvd-video causes great problems for the xbox. in my experience you can get dvd-video to be read by the xbox using nero but even at 1x burn its still unreliable.

i suggest after you've shrunk the video using dvd shrink. you use a program called imgtool and burn with dvd decrypter. using this instead of nero i burn at 4x to generic dvd-disks and the xbox reads it without causing the drive too much stress. compared to a dvd burned with nero at 1x and the drive reading like a madman.
