Hi,

If the harddrive on the XBox is dead, how do I put in a new harddrive with the proper image (i.e., with proper serial number matching the XBox, etc.)?

This is needed, right? Otherwise cannot play XBox Live?

Or any other locked HD I can get from eBay will work without restoring the image?

Thanks

the only way to restore your xbox from a dead hard drive is to put in a new hard drive. Your xbox must be modded as well. After you install the new hard drive, you would load evox from cdrw and then use the ftp format commands or the evox.ini special format commands to format the drive (there are tutorials). Then you would re-load all of your xbox dash files from the C: partition (i hope you have a backup). Once you do that you can then lock the drive with config magic. Then you should be able to boot from the retail bios and play on Live.

Thanks Ben999,

Well, there is no backup done and drive is already dead and unit is not modded.

So what should I do?

BORROW a mod chip.
Fit chip.
Fit new drive.
Install M$ dash on new drive.
Use ConfigMagic to lock new drive.
Remove chip.

Thanks Exobex!
