ALWAYS backup your harddrive BEFORE you do ANYTHING to it. After you get it successfully modded you can create a different backup if you want.
The second you get FTP access running from a boot disc. Backup C completely (E for good measure). Burn a CDR so you can always have a copy of the files and transfer them back from your computer.
People get too excited and forget about this. These are the ones you see whining in the forums when something goes wrong - and inevitably it will if you don't back it up.

i booted to slayers 2.5 and it gave me instant ftp access, i backed up my c and e drive before doing anything else.
however if you do screw something up and you don't have a backup, slayers can rebuild your hard drive

well many people frown upon slayers cuz it's so simple to use.. (i even did when i started here) people think you should go through the hour long process of configuring all of your files, trying to create an evox boot disc over and over before it finally works, ftp each individual tool/folder over.... it's a pain...
if you have a mod chip with a good bios (evox m7 or x2 4981) then you can just download the 100 meg slayers 2.5 iso, burn it to cd-rw, and boot to it by just loading the cd-rw into the xbox. you will get an ip on the top of the screen, can ftp in and do whatever, and use slayers to install the dashboard and all the apps you want
of course you should still go in, read the ini's, upgrade whatever programs you want to update, and get a feel for how it all works. that way you will understand what to do if anything ever breaks on you

i installed the xbit chip and flashed with em7 and x2
when i tried the boot disc it says it cant read it
however the led on the xbit small board lights up does this mean anything
can still play reg games on it too
is my install wrong or my burning the disc no good
maxell cdr-w burnt at 2x
