I know people wont disclose an RC4 Key for the fear of wrath from MS, but can someone actually tell me what an RC4 Key actually is/does?

Here is my standard reply for these sorts of questions.... following these steps are a good idea for newbs AND old hands when they wonder about a FAQ like this:

Please, for your sake as well as ours, first read Things You Must Know About The Xbox:, read EVERYTHING there. Then go to the main Xbox-Scene page and hit the tutorials links and other informative links found there. After that, in the forums, scan through the various pinned threads in the many technical forums here, particularly those that are relavent to your interests.

Hang out in the Newbie Chat and FAQ forums, browsing and scanning various threads there.... then if you still have questions, search before posting. Try a few variations... don't make a half-assed attempt, either. Check over the search options to make sure it's set up correctly.

If you've HONESTLY exhausted all of those steps, and are still bewildered by something, ask away. We'll recognize the question as a legitimate, or rarely asked question, instead of a FAQ or blatantly newb question.

This is not meant as criticism - only as good, sound, advice. 99% of the members here have followed it and many of them are here helping others, now...

wow BenJeremy, you know what is, and didn't take time to answer, you should have just not bothered to post at all. The link which you provided does say what the key is, but in very general terms. It also says:

Also, you are aware that one cannot serach for "rc4" or "key" or "rc4 key" or "rc4 AND key", right?
I also looked through the FAQ forum, and I cannot find a post that answers this question.

He simply asked "What is an rc4"

Kind of like asking "what is a car" - Sure, one could take the initiative, as you did, to explain how the car works, in detail, but he didn't specifically ask for detail

The thread "Things you must know..." has a bit about the RC4, which is about all that a majority fo the people modding their Xboxes need to really understand about it.

Like I said, it's great that you filled in the request with detail, but you didn't need to take the crappy attitude about my post. It didn't just tell him to search - it gave him a specific link to information that people frequently ask about. The tone of my response was not patronizing (nor meant to be in any way) - it's a standard response that often clears up a lot of questions people ask.

So stop acting like an ass and lighten up. If he had asked for more specific detail about the RC4, I would not have responded with the reply - understand that I even double checked to make sure RC4 was described in the thread, in a level I thought would be sufficient. Note that I also did not CLOSE THE THREAD, or MOVE IT TO NEWBIE CHAT, which are two courses of actions for some questions - I left it open for more discussion if he still had questions.

BenJeremy: I had read all the faqs and tutorials and had an "assumed" idea of what it is, but non of them are very specific so had no way of knowing if my assumed idea was a correct assumption.

My question was "but can someone actually tell me what an RC4 Key actually is/does?" which is slightly and subtedly different from "What is an rc4" which is what you claimed I asked, the former implies that I'm interested in more detail than "it's an encryption key" that I had already established to a certain extent from the faqs.
